- When conditions are challenging and changeable, Intelligent All-Wheel Drive keeps you making capable, confident progress.
Available on the Transit, among other Ford commercial vehicles, Intelligent All-Wheel Drive can keep you, your van and your business moving on all kinds of terrain - from snow and ice to loose, dry sand.
Working with its Electronic Stability Control technology, it constantly monitors your vehicle’s traction over changing surface conditions and adjusts it to improve grip, handling and stability, while minimising wheelspin.
You can select ‘Normal’ or ‘Mud /Ruts’ drive mode. Even the default ‘Normal’ mode improves handling on wet roads, detecting any loss of grip and redistributing torque between the front and rear axles as needed. On the other hand, Mud/Ruts mode allows you to take on, and beat, far more treacherous conditions, such as uneven, off-road terrain.
Finally, because Intelligent AWD is a ‘torque on demand’ system, it not only helps you tackle the most challenging conditions, but it also enhances your vehicle’s efficiency.

Only manual Transmission with AWD? Why??
Sadly the All Wheel Drive system is only available in combination with a Manual transmission.
We only offer the Ford Ranger in All wheel drive automatic transmission.
This was a global business decision based on market analysis. ^Aaron
@@FordUK But ford build AWD Automatic Transit in the USA: Why not in Europe??
The engine and spec combinations will vary from region to region much like the range of vehicles.
The European decision was not to offer this combination that they offer in the states. ^Aaron
@@FordUK I am surprised to be questioning a representative from Ford UK but are you sure that the Ranger has All Wheel Drive in any of its variants (auto or manual). It is my understanding that the Ranger is only a 4x4 and does not have all wheel drive capability as fitted to the transit. The difference being that the Rangers 4x4 system is designed to be engaged by the driver for off road use only. Whereas the intelligent AWD system fitted to the transit automatically delivers power to either or both axles as appropriate on any surface, including the highway.
Hey there, to help you drive with confidence in all conditions and environments, the Ford Ranger enables you to switch between 4WD and 2WD systems on the fly. So when you’re cruising comfortably on smooth roads, you can keep the vehicle in 2WD. But as soon as you want to go off-road or the road conditions deteriorate, you can effortlessly switch into 4WD. I hope that helps! ^Ay
