Great teachers produce great students. Impeccable analysis! And the advice towards the end is so relevant. Thank you for reminding me why I missed these khutbahs :)
Thank you so much for this. I am from Bangladesh. There is no doubt that we Bangladeshi people are happy about the fact that we finally got rid of sheik Hasina after so many years. But there are few people in our country who are quoting a Hadith which says a nation will not prosper if its leader is a woman.while I am more than happy that she is not the leader anymore but I could not deny the fact that people are using this Hadith making me feel anxious about the fact that I want to be a leader as well. Can dr Khaled about el fadl please shed light on this Hadith?
I took down the following passage related to this Hadith from Speaking in God's Name: Islamic Law, Authority and Women by Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl: Page 136 The woman referred to in the report is Burun bint Kisra Abrawiz b. Hurmuz b. Kisra Anusharwan. Her short reign over the Sassanid Empire is reported to have lasted only one year and four months (r. 8/630-9/631). …. The version narrated in Bukhari leaves open the possibility that the Prophet was simply predicting the downfall of Persia, i.e. the Prophet was saying, "With this woman in power, Persia will fall." Interestingly, not all hadith-collectors placed this tradition in the chapter on governorship (wilaya), which means that they did not believe the tradition was setting out the qualifications of a ruler.
alhamdulillah the khutbas are back!!
