- First The Cure song I have covered here as I know Simon Gallup's work is highly respected. I am a huge fan of his tone and simple bass lines that round out their songs in very creative ways. It's incredible to think that this track has the same bass riff on repeat for the entirety of the song. Now that's something.

great cover Catalina - your groove on this is amazing and it's my favorite band - Simon was my biggest influence to play bass. I have seen other covers go from the 8th fret on the E string to the 11th fret and then from the 8th to the 10th in that part. I wonder which way it is really played? Now I am going to watch live vids of Simon lol!

The Cure has had some of the most amazing bass lines. It's almost like the songs are built around it. I'm definitely going to check out your band. You have an ear for what good music is without a doubt. :)

You really nailed it! Although this bassline is very simple in itself, since it is so mesmerizing to play I often tend to over- or underslide somewhere half through the song. But you stay focused and just gallop like a metronome.

I love Jags! I have never done a video like that...not really much of a gearhead as my approach to that stuff is kinda simple. I think it's a fun idea, I will definitely do one. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks. Yes and no. Bass is plugged in directly to the interface and computer. I then used GarageBand and played around with some drive and chorus settings to give it a little kick.

None. Just plugged in to GarageBand and noodled around with some drive + chorus settings.

Very nice, but the legend said that Gallup recorded this bass line on a Fender Bass VI, listen to the isolated bass track and you heard the E string vibrating and buzzing a lot..... this is why bassist had hard time to find the tone even with the right pedals and good tuning !

Can I ask what pedals and settings you used to get that tone?
You're gonna get a good chuckle out of this one. I'm currently without any of my pedals (they are in another country cause I thought I was flying back there in March and then COVID happened so have not been able to go there yet). So I used two things in GarageBand. The Modern Stack clean bass setting and the Heavenly Chorus pedal. That's about it. The bass is plugged in directly to my Focusrite interface. Nothing else going on.

I’m just going direct into my DAW thru a FocusRite and using GarageBand (some chorus and drive). No real pedals here. I use those for live settings only.
