Thanks for another great video. I love this Morrowind series. And you're spot-on about the Construction Set, because even young, dumb teenage me could get it to work...although I initially took ages to manually line up room pieces because I didn't know how to snap them together. :I
Minor nitpick(s): Dreugh is pronounced "Dreg" by NPCs in ESO and Oblivion, while chitin is "Kai-tin".

The port town with unwelcoming people, the cult of fish worshippers, the nightmares, even the half-dreughs are a clear stand in for the deep one hybrids. The fact that what is essentially an unrelated story can be so seamlessly adapted to the Morrowind setting is a testament to high level of quality of the writing and environment design of the Tamriel Rebuilt team.

I can see where the forum user was coming from about changing lore. Playing a lot of tabletop games and reading through adventures and sourcebooks sometimes I would see the lore and think it was stupid or want to change it to make it better. I eventually realized though that I was better off making my own lore and own world that I came up with myself if I was already gonna change so much stuff.

Heh, that Patriots faction design is kind of charming. It reminds me of the kind of stuff I'd do when I was playing around with modding or making Minecraft maps as a kid - I'd start out with a really grand design, have little or no plan, spend something like 5 hours solid on it and then lose interest after stumbling across something else.

Spectacular video, as always. Considering the avalanche of change we experienced during the 'naughties and the calibre of releases up through the 2010's it's astonishing that such a highly unlikely project survived more or less intact. This is why it's so great to be smug asshole Morrowind grognard.

13:00 the irony is that Morrowind was better than Oblivion. Loot scaling meant shops had trash until you leveled up, common bandits would have daedric armor at high levels. Rare trophy items were scaled down if you got them too early in the game. And enchanting and alchemy were greatly diminished in player choice. But hey, it had slightly better graphics, so woo hoo... People are just stupid, with no understanding of quality.

@@amadeusagripino6862 the real problem is the open world, how do you make a world that is fully explorable but still keep end game elements? Developers are just too lazy to make a world that works. What you want to do is have the cities and places where people travel often scaled for beginners, then the farther out you go the harder it gets. but that takes intelligence, which tod howard doesnt have...

@@chimp_monke123 New Vegas did it pretty well: end-game faction npcs and equipment only show up in any meaningful amount after the reinforcement stage of the main quest is under way. Other than that, most enemies have the same gear throughout the game. Running into high level enemies at a low level may be advantageous, if you can use your available items and your wit to your advantage.

A big thing they need to do is a have a small talk system in the game. Talking to different characters tells you who they are, changes their disposition toward you, reveals quests, radiant events, lots of dynamic things that can change if you talk to someone, or neglect to talk to anyone.

Well they do have a point in a way. There's been various research experiments looking into that. How creativity works and so forth. In general if you give someone a blank check: "You can do anything"... they tend not to. Their mind will fall into what they "know" are successful patterns. A+B worked last time so when given the guideline of "Anything" they go back to A+B more often than not. But if you suddenly tell them that their set up has to include C, D, and E in it... well it breaks them out of the auto complete style ruts. It might force them to look into topics that they never considered before. Or an attempt to simplify back to A+B needs to account for the new data and thus makes new connections.
Basically if you tell someone: "Make an RPG" odds are you'll have an inferior product in terms of creative input than "Make a Morrowind RPG".
And in video games we can see this play out as well. A good example of this ends up being Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. A studio who doesn't like doing Black and White Morality is told to do an RPG based on a setting with Black and White Morality and a lot of hangups. Instead of ignoring it, they embraced both their own writing style and the lore existing to create something people do consider a fascinating and thought inspiring masterpiece of a story for that setting. Rather than a story they created that crowbarred in a Lightsaber.

Speaking on other dimensions we have seen in TES, ESO is at least worth bringing up.
Sotha Sil's Clockwork City is the first that comes to mind. A small sphere housing a realm in itself (yes it's just like Boo's Mansion from Mario 64). The realm, which we've technically been to in the Tribunal Expansion, is powered by Sotha Sil and houses many experiments and even modern inventions only Seht himself understands. Of course this place, more than any other, has to be kept in mind. It's not like Tribunal gave us much on the City, so this place more than anywhere is deeply tied to Morrowind but is also to ESO, a conundrum.
Hircine's Hunting Grounds are entered though there's not much to talk about. It's a heaven for werewolves and hunters but to a mortal you might as well be stuck in a big forest but everyone is trying to kill you. Though I should mention I have not been there in the game personally.
You get to walk on the moon(s), of course. I've never been there, but it doesn't have a "lunar" aesthetic, has a lot of Nirn assets, but that could be good or bad depending on interpretation. Especially since it hold deep ties to Khajiti religion and culture.
Coldharbour, Molag Bal's realm, is practically just Tamriel, but in ruins and everything is trying to kill you. So normal Tamriel but on steroids and significantly more blue.
The Evergloam is Nocturnal's plane of oblivion, and the best comparison I can make is it looks like Dark Souls. An endless expanse of ruins, forests, swamps, but holds a certain beauty with subtle lighting and mysteries. But of course the servants of Nocturnal are wrenching out the souls of trespassers so it's not all that nice.
Fargrave is its own, neutral plane of oblivion. It's an exchange center for pretty much all races, including deadric. It's pretty much the scamp town in TR but with a more "demonic" aesthetic and more tamrielic races involved in the commerce.
There's maybe a dozen more areas, but I don't think they're much worth bringing up, or I simply don't know about them. I'm not the biggest fan of ESO if I'm being honest, but I do have an interest in taking advantage of their work, to springboard ideas. The brief discussion on other worlds in TES games in certainly an area where ESO can spark the imagination, even if it's how one can improve on these places.

Been watching all of your videos the past few days, and I have to say: you're one Hell of a video maker. I've never played Morrowind or half of the other games you talk about, but I can sit and listen to you talk about them and mods for them for hours, and... honestly I HAVE done just that. The visual gags you throw in sometimes to illustrate points alongside your style of narration are also quite amusing and I'm glad they are somewhat sparse so they don't become repetitive or distract from the gameplay/story itself. I'm excited to see what you produce next.
