Seems like the starting torque will be a big issue, in using that as a generator.
Using as a motor seems fine. Just make sure your controller can handle the amps of your application.

you should do a vid with one of those Direct Drive washing machine motors; re-wire it for lower volts and show some test applications. i think you have a vid with one of them... but not re-wired.

Hello Mr.Electron, have you tried to use all ends of the wires from the scooter motor as generator, since you do not use it as motor with delta or star, to use all wires in combination to get more Watts from same generator using same torque power on it ? I think rounded will be 50% more. I.e. to use also the ends for delta con's but as el.source. Sorry for my smile : )

it generate power mean that the resistance is more than a normal wheel(non-electric) right ? that mean if people play with an electric scooter without turn it on , it still not a normal scooter because of the resistance ???
maybe that motor is good for charging a solar battery.

that is stationary coil and permanent magnet. when you turn the magnet can generate electricity. it needs kinetic force or moving magnet
Why not try using a drill with a round rubber disk or disk of wood on the end to hold against the hub motor wheel rim to get it to spin to test its output

Depends on the motor / generator (hub or non-hub) types. Yes it can. Not only to recharge, but also to power up the rear wheel with more power than it needs. With standard hub motors = you are not able. You need to rearange the magnets and to rewire all windings/coils. Basically, motor to be "delta" and generators "star" similar coil turns. And generators need to produce higher voltage and less ampers. Sorry if I confused you. Also, only from transformer you can get more power out than input with more coils out on larger core, it is similar system. Now I told you what all are dreaming for, but the sistem-planet raping will not function if all have what they want. Happy researching and making. (Eurasia).
