I don’t normally comment on anything but I just had to let you know how much I (as part of the silent majority) appreciate your content and candidness. You’re one of the few running channels that feels like you’re truly giving your honest opinion. I know it’s hard to ignore the haters / internet “experts” sometimes, but I hope you keep doing what you’re doing.

I appreciate how human you are. You show true emotions unscripted.
I come from poverty my friend. I was surrounded by teenage pregnancy, drugs, gambling, thieves etc. I knew growing up, I wanted better so I kept my head down. Just grinding daily til one day, I found myself out of that hell hole.
People I know who are still there keep asking me for help. I do help when I see the need is great but when i can't, they get mad at me. Damned if you, damned if you don't. You can't please everyone no matter how hard you try. Some people will never be happy for others.
My point is ignore the noise. The only people that truly matter are your family.
Also stop asking your haters to unsubscribe or to stop watching your vids. Let them see you win! Plus their ad revenue from watching you will help you buy more shoes. 😅

Yowana I’ve been around for a while, and usually only comment to say something to the haters. But I just want to say how grateful I am for this channel. I’m a new runner at 40, don’t really have any running friends but have dove all in to it. This channel has been my closest connection I’ve found in running and recently coming off an injury it’s been huge in helping me find the spark again.

Don't respond, it will make the problem worse. Nothing they say can invalidate your hard work. I greatly enjoy your channel and you inspire me. Please don't change the format of your show. Your choice of words lends itself for a better newer runner interpretation so thank you for that . This may get lost in the sea of overwhelming well deserved support here... but here are my thoughts. As a regular viewer and avid fan, I don't think we can even begin to fully appreciate the magnitude of benefit your channel offers to runners. It's not just a shoe review page. It's not just a running motivation page. It's also not JUST a running page. It's so, so much more. The time, dedication, consistency and honesty you put in is not going unnoticed. Keep doing you - you are killing it. Please don't let the negative noise drown out the deafening chorus of positivity (evidenced here!).
I think when many of us look back at our running journey, we will remember this absolutely iconic RUclips channel that seemed to come out of nowhere, ignited a passion to "up our best", and lead the mileage revolution for hobby joggers everywhere. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do! 🏃🏼‍♀️💪🙌

I really appreciate your vulnerability in this episode. Addressing some of the criticism you got. I have no idea how changing your opinion makes you less credible, in fact it should make you MORE credible. Just like with anything, opinions change over time. More so with running shoes where the feel of them change drastically as you use them. Changing your opinion makes you more credible instead of doubling down on your original opinion as it shows you’re willing to keep an open mind instead of being closed to evidence that might be contrary to your original opinion. I, like many others, appreciate your unique point of view and take on running. Just like with anything, there’s not one “right” way to train, there’s not one “right” shoe for everyone and you’re just trying to help others by sharing what’s worked for you. Thank you for being vulnerable and open and willing to share your incredibly valuable point of view!

My job allows me to test almost all of the same shoes you run in. I don’t NEED your videos for a shoe review, I ENJOY them. I appreciate the randomness that happens, the fact it’s like we are joining you in a segment of your day. I don’t agree with every one of your views but that’s totally fine. My only gripe is that sometimes I want to respond to you because it feels like having a conversation, but then I recall you’re on the internet and that’s not how this works 😂Keep it up!
Side note, I have both the black and pink Superblast, and my pink one is softer. Also, my preteen daughter managed to PR a recent race in her pink Superblast. She is super tiny and loves them, I have no idea why 😂. Reminds us we are all different.
Honestly I do prefer the MagMax overall, Puma nailed it with that shoe.

Appreciate the candid conversation today, and feel like this type of openness resonates more with the majority of viewers vs. the diss tracks you drop on the run. However, I get that too, and understand it's your personality coming out, so that's all good too!
Also, Superblast OG is taking me past 400 miles when most shoes feel flat to me after 200 miles. Picked up a second, lightly used pair on the app since they work well and go the distance for me.

Brene brown once said in an interview that after her Ted talk went viral she got so much hate about her looks! Not even what she talked about but her personal appearance. It led her into depression.
She was told by “successful” people this message- “ don’t waste time listening to people who have not put themselves out there.”

I definitely think it's more a force situation over the weight of the runner - I weigh 135 - 140lbs at 5'10", 1:17 half marathon, and I love the Superblast 2. I land similarly to you but recently realised how much force I put down. Funnily enough, I love the Zoom Fly 6 too! I find the SB2 smooth, soft and protective, and fast while the ZF6 is bouncy, soft and fast

53:35 Haven’t properly tried the SB2 as didn’t like the step in feel more even just walking in them. Could justify the cost. Ended up getting the Magmax as got 15% off and I love it. I want to wear them all the time. Tight corners are the only issue, but they’ve been great for all types of runs. Probably not the best for some sprints, but it can do it. Took it on holiday with me over Christmas and did easy, tempo and anaerobic workouts in them. And the Puma grip is awesome. I’m now wearing these more than my Velocity Nitro 3.

I’m a 185 lb slower runner and I absolutely love the superblast 2. It blew my mind when I first got it. I convinced my wife to try it and she hated it and returned it. Doesn’t work for everyone! I will say I do not like it at all on the treadmill. I use it for all my outdoor runs but avoid it completely on the treadmill. It’s like it needs the hard ground to compress the foam and give it bounce.

You are doing an amazing work here on RUclips. Imho you are one of sincerest content creator for running on RUclips. Maybe some of these negative people cannot fathom your hard work and level of honesty. Well you cannot do anything about it. I hope you don't get affected by the trolls.
For running the average HR from optical HRM is One BPM or at the max 2 BPM more than the HRM Strap most of the times if the Optical HRM watch is snug fit. I am talking with experience here as for more than year now I run with Garmin Forerunner 255s paired to GARMIN HRM dual and a Garmin Forerunner 245 for Optical HR and the average BPM difference 90 percent of time as been one BPM more from the optical HRM. So I agree with you its not that inaccurate if we consider the average HRM.
In any case you are doing soooo swell training without HR.

    • @philipppuchner1115
      @philipppuchner1115 20 дней назад +1

My experiance with optical sensors on watches is, that there must be perfect conditions, then it is good enough. So, temperature, sweat (i sweat a lot on my forearms), pretty steady heart rate etc.
On my trails, where it goas uphill quite steeply, the heart rate doesn't exceed a certain value with my Apple Watch SE2, but with my polar H10 chestband, it is over 10 bpm more!
Also the reaction times when something changes are THAT slow, that it is pretty much useless if you don't run on the road. If I sweat much on my forearm, I also get completely crap readings.
Peopel say that the optical band on the upper arm is better, because less vibrations and maybe sweat, but I haven't tested this myself.
If i don't care i just run with the watch, and If I want accurate readings, I take the chestband EKG which is the most accurate.

The Stack Check (TM) metrology lab segment is interesting and fun and provides useful comparison data. Nice addition to these review-focused videos. I agree with you that it would be interesting to see how much the foam of the MagMax compresses after break-in. This is something I'd like to see data on going forward with new shoes you get.
Also, I have 4 pairs of SB2s, one with about 60 miles in it and the others essentially new, and they all feel a little different in terms of firmness/resilience underfoot. So I do think there's some variability in the foam. They all weigh about the same, 292-295 g (men's size US12).

I very much appreciate your reviews and honesty. It is the first time I hear relatively negative things about the SB and to some extent I agree with your opinion especially the fact that it bottoms out after 20-25kms. Nonetheless I found it a very versatile and fun shoe (I use them for long run, uptempo and even for VO2Max intervals and they perform exactely as I want). On the other hand I had several issues with the upper of the MagMax (too tight, low volume and laces scrubbing the top of my foot) while the bottom of the shoe was very fun! I just hope that in v2 Puma will provide more room in the toe box...finger crossed

    • @philipppuchner1115
      @philipppuchner1115 20 дней назад +1

The Superblast (doesn't matter if 1 or 2) bottoming out? I never ever heard or read something like this. How should that be possible if the foam is "so stiff"?
I thought the SB is the last shoe that bottoms out!
Also: No, please don't change the fit of Puma! There are so much shoes on the market with universal fit and also higher volume. Puma and Hoka (not all but many) are the only shoes with a bit narrower and lower volume fit. I hate all these boats where your foot swims inside no matter how small you get the shoes and how fierce you cinch down the laces. Please let us people with lower volume and on the narrower end of width feet have our shoes!
The Speedgoat 5 has a very snug hugging perfect fit for me. Second skin and super secure when going steep downhill on grassy and muddy trails. Perfect road to trail and trail shoe for me. Lot's of people complained about the narrowness of the shoe, and what happended? The Speedgoat 6 is now stiff and wide in the forefoot/toebox. Just another random shoe. Thanks for nothing.
I always get angry about those boats and figure they must be designed for elefants! ;)

Well how many non reviews do you know that can provide you with their thoughts on the SB? I just have few of them and they do not go out for 35+km long runs. On top, their weight is 10 kg less than mine. It all depends on so many factors my friend, and in my case the SB bottoms out after 400km, even if this is the first time you hear it ;)

@@ThomVerd yes of course there are so many factors.
I reference multiple youtube comments under those running shoe videos like this, so, marathon runners - training for marathons, so long runs >20 km.
You are completely right by the weight of those people and the mostly higher cadence and turnover, which totals up to much less force into the foam per step and per km as we do. I am fat 92kg/200lbs+ at the moment and I just started using the Superblast and now it is winter here in Austria, so it at all i try to go out with my Puma Velocity nitro 3 GTX or my freshly arrives Puma Foreverrun Nitro WTR. I could also use the Triumph 20 Runshield, but these are more for heel striker and slap and if they stay new, i can resell them. And the 2 Pumas fit me better - the Foreverrun Nitro WTR has surprising bounce!
I don't like the standard Foreverrun for some reason, and the Forevrrun Nitro Knit, which has much more rocker, yeah, the upper... the hole where you have to press your foot inside... putting on the shoes is so annoying, that i don't want to. + the laces, where they go through the eyelets, are not protected underfoot, so you feel the short piece of lace when it disapears from your sight and shortly after comes out of the material again.
Just a pass from me. but the WTR is way better :)
Only thing: they are all pretty high at the ankles, so there may be an uncomfortable issue. I can feel it through the thinner socks a bit, but I have to run a while to see if this turns out to be a problem or not.
Barefoot I wouldn't want to run or walk in these shoes.
Hope they turn out ok, 99,95€ from the Puma website, end of season sale, shortly after christman. The sale is still going for some models, but not many sizes are available.

For a 4:50 pace the superblast is probably more suitable than the zoom fly, which excels at faster paces. It would be more protective and keep your legs fresher over 4+ hours

As an assics fan who loves the Novablast 4 i bought the superblast 2. Also a big guy. Never felt the magic in it. But worse, developed Shin splints after only a few runs. Left them out of the rotation and it got better again. So they are going. Also felt like it was only kinda good at one pace, faster and slower telt bad.

Im big as hell. My original favorite shoe was the kinvara pro, but the grip wore too quickly. With that said ive done 99% of my runs in the superblast since ive got them. Anywhere from 7 min to 12 min paces. But i provide the force to work the foam (260lbs)... so your heavier runner preferred is legit when compared to me.

Sb2 is not good for me either just slaps (in a bad way). I still think you got dud adios pro 4s because mine are my favorite race shoe. I can't think of a run I do where the sb2 would be the best shoe, it just gives me nothing back from the foam. Weight and upper are good. I got a pair of superblast 2's for christmas and got about 50 miles on them. I really like them but I've been a puma guy with my Deviate Nitro 2's for a while now and will probably try the maxmag's when i eventually burn through the superblasts. Superblast is nice but i'm not sure anything will ever compare to puma grip at this point. Puma has actually ruined so many other shoes to me with the insane grip.

    • @philipppuchner1115
      @philipppuchner1115 20 дней назад

I recently also fell in love with Puma. Perfect fit for me, the Nitro foam is incredible for me, firm out of the box, but not too hard or stiff, the insanely goof Puma grip!
I alos like the ipper and the laces, no fuss no annoyances. If I would do anything I would dial back to drop from 10mm to 8mm and that's it. Maybe experiment with 6mm since that makes it much easier for me to land forefoot or even midfoot without having to think about it.

    I bought a superblast 2 early..
Right pair was supersoft. Basically as compressive as the novablast 5, but bouncier. Left pair was stiff as a brick..
I returned them and got another pair. Both were compressive..
But i heard several people say the novablast 2 is very firm.. im pretty sure there are some quality control issues.
Maybe the glue layer between the foams messes it up?

My slightly used (2x treadmill) SB2 I sink into the foam WAY more than in the SB1!
Asics GT2000-12 - hard as a brick, totally unrunable!
Looking closely you find comments like this, also a small reseller on a 2nd hanfd plattform i spoke to said there were some people he has heard the same.
Others say that #12 is softer than #11 (which was way harder than #10).
So, whats the deal? I bought mine GT2000-12 retail and run 2x and they weren't cold or something.
ALL GT2000-12 cannot be that hard because I guarantee NO PERSON would hve been able to run in those bricks, no one, not even with probably 200kg!

I cant decide if I like the ortholite insole from my kayano or the saucony insole in my superslappers. Either way, the stock insole needed to go. I lean towards the ortholite because it doesn't take up as much space inside the shoe but the saoucony adds more bounce for me. Strange shoe, i love and hate it.

100% on the Superblast being a "tool"
I'm aware of the stupid hype it's caused. Despite being a devotee to SB, I definitely think it is a "raw" shoe, leaving other things to be desired. Besides cushion, no particular edge on any of the "main" characteristics of a training shoe ie speed, support, recovery. All I feel is bounce, in a "hard" responsive way. I can't really pick any shining defining "keyword" to describe the shoe, and it's function
    BUT
that's what I like it for. I'm not a real big shoe trainer connoisseur.. I've owned maybe just 15-20 different makes, and tried just a few dozen, straight off the shelf, no break in. But I am a true believer in the SB (2, at least, never tried the 1)
To me, it's the everything shoe, with one important element:
Y'know how, on a car you can feel each gear as you change it, and when it's about to change.. SB 2 does that for me.. if I wanna go easy, it goes easy, stays easy.. if I wanna tempo, I "know" where the switch for it is.. faster paces don't feel awkward in the heel.. to me, it's a true, "get the fk out the way" shoe, wear I find my self "using" the tool, for exactly what it is, and none of the bells and whistles dragging my feet, literally
Don't make sense? Yea I know, I'm talking some wizardry Bs here, kinda.. but here's an example of what it's NOT (to me):
Saucony triumph, billed as this wonderful max cush shoe, to make recovery days comfortable... I've owned them (21s), and enjoyed 400mi in them.
However, every time I slipped them on, they just wanted me to go fast! Fast enough to make me ruin my much needed recovery.. and when I went slow, the damn heel got in the way (I'm a forefooter, heavy runner)
SB makes me "stay in my lane" I don't know what it is, but it just feels like the "most perfect shoe" for whatever I'm using it for, hence why I got two of them in rotation
Sort of off topic, I've made an ultimatum few recent months back, to only use SB 2 and metaspeed paris', for ez to speed, to racing... I'm DONE with the shoe tease of modern tech,.. it was fun, and a necessary way for me to get back into the love of running, but: it is now time to just run .

    • @philipppuchner1115
      @philipppuchner1115 20 дней назад +2

yeah, the heel! That's why I don't like those 10mm and more drop shoes. I recently fell in love with Puma and changing the drop back to 8mm would be the only thing i would do.
On my 5mm drop shoes i much easier land on the forefoot or even midfoot, as by those high drop shoes I have to think about it when I start to run and think about it again and again from time to time.
And I agree with the Superblast. Many other shoes make you run faster and faster until you recognize that you are way too fast and your heart rate goes up and up. Many of those daily trainers are not suitable for easy recovery runs. I mean, they feel fun most of the time, but they are no snail shoes.
On the other hand, those sinky soft energy sapping quick sand shoes like my Nimbus 26 are aweful and you cannot do anything with them ecept walking of heel strike crawling.
The SB is a great do it all shoe :)
