I have Borderline Personality Disorder and never once have I thought of hurting someone. People use these types of mental health problems to get away with crimes or make an excuse for them. Don't believe them.
BPD are almost overly emotional, my mom has it and so did this chick I dated. Behaviorally challenged, yes, all killers? No. Same thing with this constant “she had BPSD so obviously she went psycho and killed herself in a ditch or a water tank” >.>
@Jamie Reid I think you are lying to yourself. I think _EVERYBODY_ has had fantasies about hurting somebody else, but normally, those fantasies don’t happen very often, and more so than that, hardly anybody ever acts upon it. There’s no shame in admitting that it’s completely normal to fantasize about hurting someone that has pissed you off or hurt you though!

Same hat. I'm severely Schizophrenic and Bipolar T1. I struggle for sure, but I don't hurt people. I freak out if I even emotionally bother someone. Not everyone is the same but for fucks sake, get help. If I can do it, it's possible. It's my responsibility to help myself and I know that. If I can do it others can too. People can do it and people that don't and use it as an excuse to cause harm have a lot more fucking wrong with them. Preach. I do get overemotional. I do overreact. I DO have to stop myself. I do go overboard. But god damn it, it CAN be controlled. You have to watch yourself. It's some of the hardest shit in the world but you can do it.
I don't know why he chose to play it in court, but Alice's Restaurant is a comedic classic and a Thanksgiving tradition for me. The full title is Alice's Restaurant Massacree, and it's basically an anti Vietnam War song by Arlo Guthrie with a lot of references to Thanksgiving, law enforcement, and the draft/induction and physical required for military service. Really nothing that would relate to a case involving the rapes and murders of 5 girls and women, and certainly nothing that would convince a jury that someone was innocent of such crimes. Which I'm sure he wasn't.
I have to wonder what it was about him that appealed to the woman in the first place!? He was Awful on stage so he must have been even Awfuller afterwards in the green room, however I'm so glad that her spidey- senses FINALLY kicked back in!
Robin Samsoe was my dads little cousin. I remember the first time he shared her tragic story with me. I was a freshman in high school and ever since then I’ve be been fascinated with true crime and psychology (this channel is a pleasant new find for me!) Although Alcala put my family through hell with so many years in court, I just feel so proud of Tali Shapiro for finding strength to testify against him and bringing justice to so many young girls/woman. My last hope is that more victims of his can be identified through his photography and some solace be brought to their families❤️

I don't know how they let him play insane songs and question the victim's, whome HE made a victim, Mom. I am not at all sure I could have restrained myself and/or others from really hurting him. But like she said, she had those plans but felt Robin's hand held her back. Take care and lots of love from Finland!
Watching this I have to say that I usually feel quite depressed about my age and it upsets me that I’m ageing, after watching this i feel like i should be more appreciative, some of these girls didn’t even make it out of their 20s and it’s so sad that they never had the chance of life. Whenever I feel upset I’m going to think of them and be grateful. May they all rest in peace 🕊
Everyone loves to talk about how smart and charming he was, what he really was is fucking lucky, the amount of times he should have been imprisoned and was let go by sheer luck is amazing.
I study criminology and honestly you’ve hit the nail on the head, personally I’m of the belief that there is no such thing as a “super intelligent” serial killer, there are just lucky killers, and sadly, inept police work in some cases. Combine that with the fact that the myth of the intelligent, high functioning killer is a very good excuse for lax policing and you have something that sadly won’t die out any time soon :( some very harrowing cases come from this, it’s very sad
Not luck. The bullshit, corrupt and disgusting actions of the US judiciary system. It’s a joke and the blood of those women are on their hands as well as his.

It boils my blood, they probably do more good than bad but that dosen't mean they shouldn't be responsible for the bad doings which they ultimately do get away with because no one can hold them accountable. Fucked up system we are all born into.
This was back before the states communicated properly between each other, same reason Ted Bundy got away for so long. And the system wasn't prepared for these sorts of sexualized serial killers, as it was basically not something that happened before these times. At least to the knowledge of the public. It's not really a fault of the system today.

I'd just like to mention how gross it is that almost every game show host through the 60s&70s basically made the women *and* children kiss them on the lips. Just wanted to leave that thought there.
Kat Rabbit I can’t remember his name but there’s that one guy who would flirt with the moms to get them comfortable, then kiss their daughters. I remember seeing a video where little girls keep saying “no I don’t want to kiss you” then he’d try and like sneak attack kiss them on the show. Ugh
The 70s and 80s were scary times in L.A. Our schools frequently warned us about the serial killers, who happened to strike very close to our homes and schools. GrandShoGunRoBo I think some were randoms he didn’t assault...or at least kill. But a lot of them were victims. Woman who went missing that no one knew about. Hence releasing the photos
I remember when I was a kid I was taught never ride with strangers - when I was 11 this car with a male and female pulled up to me when I was walking home - the female knew my name and asked me if i needed a ride - I had no clue who she or the guy was and I kept refusing - they both kept saying they knew my parents - I kept refusing - and walked home - come to find out they did know my mom and they came to the house and told them how I refused to get into the car with them and how they thought it was funny and admirable that I wouldnt get in the car with them
Similar story for me. My uncle always picked me and my cousin up from school but one day he sent one of his in-laws and the in-law's wife. I refused to get in the car even though my cousin said she knew them. They had to find a public phone and let me talk to my mother before I got into the car, lol. Even then I was worried all the way home. I must have been about seven.
A similar thing happened to me except a guy in his van pulled up to me and my friend as we were walking home and he asked us if we wanted candy but I remember my mom telling me never get into a strangers car. My friend accepted and went into his van and they drove off, the next day my friend came by my house and showed me all the candy that strange guy gave him. That could've been me!
I seem to remember a friend of one of the girls in the pictures recognized her and they were able to date it, blowing Alcala's alibi out of the water and place him at the beach the day Robin Samsoe went missing. I didn't know the girl he won the date with on the show declined the date, extremely wise choice on her part, probably saved her own life. Fresh perspective once again Mike!
Mike, I've heard this story many times in many formats. You have absolutely outdone yourself. I cannot express how much this video means to victims and survivors alike. You are an amazing person that has a gift for telling the dark tales of true crime without being disrespectful. You are a star. Keep at it, I know I viewing this over a year after it was made. But I listen to you every day. You're helping in so many ways. Bless you.
That quick slide through the photos of all those women was terrifying. I thought it was a montage of the year but when I realized that those were all victims, I froze.
If that woman did shoot him, honestly-- I couldn't have blamed her. At all. I think I would have done the same as a mother. Shes stronger than me just for being able to stop herself. I hope she's doing okay. I really do.
I literally got goosebumps when she said she didn't because she felt her daughters hand stopping her. I believe that is the only reason she didn't shoot him. Her daughter didn't want her mum to go to prison for that peice of shit 😭
Seeing all those photos of his potential and probable victims is the most disturbing I find. Goes to show you just how vulnerable women are in this world.
My mother lived in the valley at this time and was almost a victim of his. She met him at her parents' dinner party (she was 13-15 years old) where he introduced himself as a photographer and took her picture. He gave her his number and they made plans later that week to go Halloween costume shopping. She went with him and says everything was okay until he started driving her home and started getting creepy and handsy. He parked the car a few blocks from her house and she only escaped because her father's girlfriend was walking the dog and saw her in the car.
@@Liciablyth I wouldn’t be here...she didn’t even know he was a murderer until seeing an article with photos trying to identify possible victims years later
Why was a girl that young allowed to go on a date with a guy with a car alone? Pop had a girlfriend, huh? I guess mom and dad were too busy with themselves.

That monster doesn’t deserve to live out his life in a nice comfy cell with 3 hot meals a day and all the rest. Anyone who has experienced near death suffocation or drowning knows the agony, terror and panic it induces. Imagine having that done to you over and over again until you long for death. Perhaps a daily dose of waterboarding is in order to remind this evil bastard what he did to so many innocent women and girls.

It always amuses me that these sociopaths want to represent themselves. This just proves they are crazy - they GENUINELY believe they can outsmart anyone. Even the courts.
They don't believe they can outsmart the courts in most cases. They just want the attention. It's to make people think they think they can outsmart the courts. To force people to look at and listen to them.
It never ceases to amaze me how easily sexual predators/serial killers gain access to their victims who willingly happily participate in the initial phases of their own destruction simply by appealing to their vanity. For some reason women cannot resist it. Telling a woman she could be a model and you want to photograph her is like telling a small child you have candy. Both brains are underdeveloped and easily manipulated.
I lived in an apartment building with an older woman and we became good friends. One day she saw me reading a serial killer book. Out of the blue, she told me about this "really weird and strange guy" who lived right next door to her when she lived in California. It was this guy! 😲 😄 She didn't trust him and always avoided any interaction with him. I'm glad she did because I really liked her a lot. She was later hit by a car while taking a walk at night. I miss her so much.
Not to talk down on the videos, because he's doing a great job, but you would be surprised how many of these materials are very easily accessable on the internet. You can literally just on RUclips find the Toy-box killer's tape, that his victims were forced to listen when they woke up in his "toy box", or you can see uncensored pictures of grotesquely posed dismembered victims of Jeffrey Dahmer (wouldn't recommend either)... There's so many things in the reach of a simple search it's actually quite shocking...
You actually struck my curiosity by saying "No body, no crime." Of course I've heard it before, but I wondered how often a murder conviction occurs without a body. There are a quite a few actually. In the US and other countries, recently! That would make for an interesting series from you =)
One thing I really love about these videos is how human you make the victims, lots of channels treat these as "oooh spooky scary" stories and almost seem to take pleasure out of the horrible deaths and suffering of the victims While I also find things like this fascinating and interesting and understand losing sight of the real tragedy of the crimes, it's gotten to the point where real life serial killers are glamorized and the victims treated as just props to gawk at So props to you for not doing that, for focusing just as much on the victims stories and legacies and treating the criminals as the sick depraved assholes they are
I love the way you show the families of victims getting closure in court. It is very important to know your attacker got punished. I know this from experience. Thanks.
I hope you're thriving and finding unexpected joys every day. Proud of your courage and the strength it took for you to survive and prosecute. Well done.
Rodney was taught about photography by Roman Polanski. Charles Manson and the Family killed Romans wife/ the Manson murders happened. Manson said that, “they were not innocent, they were into kiddie prn.” Rodney photographed and kidnapped young girls. Roman is a convicted rapist now. There are no coincidences, they worked together.

Hey Mike, thank you for always giving due respect to the victims. Especially in cases with multiple victims or missing people, you always take the time to name them one by one when their names are known, or show their pictures when their identities are unknown. Thanks for that.
The reason “no body no crime” is such a common obstacle to prosecuting killers is that you can’t actually prove someone died, much less was murdered if there’s no body. Of course, this is not a complete bar to prosecution (read Ann Rule’s book “Never Let Her Go”). Great job as always Mike!
The public should've been tipped off against Hollywood the moment they all stood up and applauded Polanski for an award (for the Pianist I think). Lots of actors went to Epstein's island....

This was such a disturbing case.. How does it take so much time and effort to sentence to death a serial killer like this? It's honestly unbelievable.
That's true, or after he hurt the 8 yr old, how he got off so easy is crazy to me
I have Borderline Personality Disorder and never once have I thought of hurting someone.
People use these types of mental health problems to get away with crimes or make an excuse for them.
Don't believe them.
Jamie Reid how do we know you haven’t killed or thought of killing???? Serial killers are extreme liars 🙃🙃
BPD are almost overly emotional, my mom has it and so did this chick I dated. Behaviorally challenged, yes, all killers? No. Same thing with this constant “she had BPSD so obviously she went psycho and killed herself in a ditch or a water tank” >.>
@Jamie Reid
I think you are lying to yourself.
Being mentally insane can make you feel like killing over silly little things but not acting on theses erges is what keeps us sane and separates us from the insane

This was back before the states communicated properly between each other, same reason Ted Bundy got away for so long. Look at his eyes in the close-ups, creepy and cold.
I don't get why she chose him. Even before seeing him, his answers were so creepy and gross.
I’ve heard this story a few years ago and debated even watching it again but I know how you do your videos and how thorough you present them … Not disappointed! …. 👍
Me too
"Peel me."
Gross.
Right? Ughh he wasnt hansome or cute ANYWHERE!! May he rot in hell
Oh God I know ughhhhhh so fucking gross
@@elinasjostrom9524 are you suggesting that if he was handsome his comments wouldn't have been creepy
He was very handsome for the 70s.
But yea what he said and his demeanour were gross although apparently wanted on this show.
@@tabby73 he wasn’t too bad I guess
This was such a disturbing case.. I was so sad to see actual toddlers and children in the mix of pictures that were possible victims of his, although, regardless of their age or any other factors, none of them deserved the fate they were unfortunately met with... I hope that he suffered (and still to this day continues to suffer) for what he has done to those poor innocent people.. and that they all rest in peace.. There's a special place in hell for evil to this extent and I hope he pays for every bit of it.. My heart goes out to both the victims and the families.
If you didn’t already know: I’m elated to tell you that ol Rod is in hell. The Devil took him to join his flock of demons after his death in prison recently
@@andrewcross8244 delightful!
Hee-hee nice game show host getup. I remember Rodney. I'm that old. Fun fact: Pee-Wee Herman was also on the Dating Game in character.
Scharzenegger too
I thought it was weird when Pee-Wee got a kid's show because I remembered him from Cheech & Chong movies.
And Tom Selleck, John Ritter and Farrah Fawcett. Long list of stars, though my favorites are people before they got famous, using the show for exposure and resume building.
