Thankyou so much for this video series, my d15 lost compression the other day and I bought a d16a6 but I had no clue what I was doing. I'm on the hunt for the injector plugs and the injector resistor box currently but thankyou so much for laying it out and showing me what I need. I really appreciate your videos!
I know it's an old video series but glad it is here. I just picked up a '90 CRX nanual(Canadin spec. no silly seatbelt on the door) I would love to do this swap. The wiring looks simple enough to do, the difficuld part will be finding donor parts theses days. Thanks for posting such thorough content.
Garage Built Hondas They absolutely will!!! You go in to so much detail, I don't see how there isn't 500k views. I freakin love your videos Jon!!! You're a badass brother!!!!
Super informational video! I already have all the parts here, but I was looking all the time for a clean install where the original harness isn't cut. Seems like you're about to do what I'm looking for :) Also thanks for taking a before and after result at the dyno. I never saw that done with only the mpfi swap yet. Really looking forward to the next videos! Keep em coming :)
I seconded what sean had to say, As far as your video production goes what software are you using? I have been trying to make some videos and it's kinda difficult. Any tips?
GarageFixes I use the GoPro Studio still. Lol. I haven't upgraded to a nicer computer and had been using it forever so it's what I still use for now. It's very simple and easy to use. I believe that you need to have a game plan for what you want in the video in terms of the direction and what's included or not included. I try to plan out anything before that I feel would help video because I don't want just some rambling and just talking about whatever. I understand there is a time and place for that in some videos, but in instructional videos I personally don't like listening to someone talk about all this other BS when I'm trying to learn something or fix something. It ruins the flow and purpose of it. And for gear, you don't need the baddest camera in the world. I'm using a Panasonic LUMIX G7 and I love it. I had been wanting a nice camera though and upgraded last May. Before that all my videos were shot on my GoPro 3+ Black and they still came out pretty nice. I've seen people use their camera phones and still make great videos. You need good lighting (make videos during the day), be precise on what you are showing, and be clear and to the point. Think about the shot, how does it look, and what do you want in the background. I try to cut out all the noise, and by that I mean all the stuff that can detract from your videos message. And lastly, film everything. You can edit everything out that you want but you want to make sure that you have everything that you "need" for your video. This video I actually recorded a bunch of parts over a 4 day period because it has been about 2 years since I did an MPFI swap and didn't want to forget any parts! Im subscribing to you (can't remember if I am already) and I'll leave some feedback for any future videos you release. I'd like to see what you have to offer and hopefully I can offer some decent advice!
Man your a life saver, Im looking to convert my 88 crx dx to mpfi and then obd1. everything i read has me confused and once i see what wiring im actually doing ill finally understand it. i know the one difference in the dp to mp wiring for me is gonna be the resister box since i wont need it, but everything else applies and i will be able to use a jumper harness at the ecu for obd1 and im ready. Oh btw i dont know if u remember me but i found the fender mold for my car. it was the only thing missing on the outside and it was in the spare tire hold. I am however looking for the cargo divider( part with the lock tabs) if u happen to come across one. keep up the great work man and thanks for the vids they are a big help. i tend to learn better seeing what to do than read it
Awesome! Funny that you found it in your car! I'll have the next parts up soon, hope it helps you out!! I'll keep a look out for the cargo mounts for you! I don't have any extras right now.
Yeah the Y8 manifold works but you also need 92- up throttle body. I was running it on OBD0 . Keep in mind that theres different IACV for the manual and auto manifold
+Boosted Fool The a6 is identical except it has one extra coolant nipple on the bottom closest to the thermostat housing. I encountered that with my swap. I do not know if the dpfi manifold has the extra line, but it just might.
I’m doing this on my 89 auto civic now. Did you have to change the Transmission kick down cable or did you use the stock one? Also, was there anything extra that you had to do since it’s an automatic ?
Awesome content man very organized and well done. Can't wait for the dyno results! BTW, i've never been to that shop but do they get down on the honda tunes?
These guys do not, they are a domestic shop mainly for muscle. If you have a remote tuner, then he can make adjustments on the fly. One of my friends (Bevon Campbell) dyno'd his 13 Si there and his tuner is in Florida. The hardest part is making sure your tuner is ready.
D16Z6, D16Y7, and D16Y8 all have the same bolt pattern. The Y7 is definitely not a manifold you want for performance. The D16Y8 and D16Z6 are both great manifolds.
Another thing. I did some testing on 2 setups on a built bottom end (12:1 comp, PG6B piston, Y7 block, and Y7 crank). I did one with a ported D16Y8 head and Y8 manifold and one with a ported Z6 head and Z6 manifold. Each head preferred the intake manifold that it came with. The Y8 head is strange and has a 'tumble' port on the intake side. My guess is that this was done for improved torque. I made the most power with the Z6 head and Manifold using a custom non-vtec cam in the Z6 head casting. Peak power was 151 Whp.
Well... if you think about (which I would never do) factoring in the parasitic losses from the drive train (15% loss at wheels), it is actually making more then the original rated powers of horse!!! Nearly 1 whole Unicorn Power (BHP/100 at the crank) which is incredible considering the age and mileage.
Lol. And I agree, still an unusually stout motor! The previous owner had it for 13 years before selling to me and he said he drove it everywhere all the time!!
Looks like it's time to throw a cheap small ebay turbo kit on it and add in boost in small doses at it and see what happens on the dyno( from 3 to 8 lbs with a small front mount intercooler). because its the interwebs and people love that kinda stuff.
If el paso weren't such a drive I'd head on out that way and see if I can pester you for some help with this. I just got my wagon up and running again and need to do this conversion on it. Great video though greenteagod on the civic wagon forum
Bravo for another SUPER interesting video! Your voice is so clear, and standard-sounding (Please do not take offense; I am just stating a fact.). Does everyone in your part of Texas sound like you? I have never been in your part of the world, so of course, my perception of the, "Texas accent," is from movies I have seen, and you sound very different from those guys.
Thanks Burrito! Nobody really has that accent in Texas, unless you're actually from the country. City folk sound normal. I try to sound pretty monotone as I want the video to retain a more serious appeal to it. I'd like it to be relevant years from now and not just some random dude kinda showing you what you need and how to do it. If you were talking to me in person, I am never this serious sounding. Lol
Good to know. Haha. I'm all the way up here, in snowy Canada. I would love to show you vids/pics of my car, but I would prefer not to do it publicly. Do you have a website or something, where I could send the data?
heck yeah man! that hatch is so clean. I may need to take the integra over to Hammer Performance and have them take a look at my tune. I feel it needs a few tweaks. runs 10-12:1 afr cruising around town with very little load and idles at 10:1 afr :-( need this looked at and lined out asap haha. this car is far too fun to have sitting for long.
This is probably the most helpful video I’ve seen going over the dpfi to mpfi conversion process. Quick question, what all would I do differently if I were doing a mini-me swap on my d15b2 block with a d16z6 head? I have the ECU, z6 intake manifold, z6 head and distributor, jumper cables for the distributor and ecu… What all would I do different from this conversion here?
Yo! Just picked up a Jdm d15b 3 stage vtec , what ecu do I run? Currently swapping it into my sedan with dual point setup. Thank you bro, ur vids are awesome
All these parts as little as $100? This intake manifold alone is almost $300. Found the pm6 ecu for $100 by itself. Its all pretty rare parts to find so to say they are all around $100 is pretty crazy.
They are now. Not Pre-covid and at the time of the release of this video. You should follow me on Instagram. I just sold a pm6 ECU for $70 shipped 2 weeks ago and a complete d16a6 intake manifold setup for like $150 shipped.
Hi, Jon! My next DIY project, is changing the upper/lower rad hoses, and the three hoses that go to the heater core. (1 of them is broken into 2 pieces, because there is a water valve in-between, right?) I would like to do even more hoses, but looking down into the engine bay is scaring me, so I think I will just do the big ones for now. I mean, the task of changing the hoses themselves does not seem too daunting, but there is so little room to work down there, I am scratching my head at how I am going to accomplish this. Could you be so kind as to post a vid on how to change coolant hoses on an EF, please? Plenty of vids on YT for Accords, CRVs and other Hondas, but I think you'd be the first -- and only -- guy to do one for the EF. Also, regarding coolant: let's say I change the top and bottom rad hoses now, and then a few months later, decide to change the hoses going to the heater core. When I undo only the heater core hoses, is the entire capacity of the radiator -- and whatever other components that are holding coolant at the time -- going to come gushing out? I am a complete noob, and I am only making guesses; a closed, airtight system suddenly has a hose removed. The natural assumption is that EVERYTHING is going to come leaking out. In other words, if I undo one of the hoses, will I need to replace all the coolant in the system, because it all leaked out from me having undone that one hose? Is every hose change, also a coolant change? Sorry if my wording is unclear. Cheers. BB
It's not difficult. The hose kit I bought had pre-cut shapes that fit the d16a6 perfect (you'll see in the finishing videos of this series) so that was a breeze. You're correct about the valve and that 2 part hose. Smartest thing to do would be drain your radiator. You can drain it into a clean container and re-use it if that's your decision. I do that all the time. No need to change the coolant entirely if it's still within its service limits. But unless you drain it at the block (19 mm drain bolt) then you will have some leaking from the hoses on the rear when you remove them, but nothing to worry about, you'll be refilling the system up again when finished. Hope that helps ease your fears of replacing them!
That helps. Thanks. I am still worried about how to get my hand into there, among all the other components. I guess I have no choice, but to remove any components that are in the way, and then r-install them later. If there is a way to get this done, without such removal, though, seeing it in a video would help. Since you mentioned that you will cover this later in the series, I will wait till then. Cheers!
Do you have a part number or code for the OEM OBD0 fuel injectors ? I was going to order some off eBay that say OEM 06164 P0A-000. Does that number look right ?
I am unsure of the OEM part #. If the eBay listing says it fits your vehicle then you should be just fine. You can always message the seller just to verify before ordering.
Love your channel! Can the fuel line be purchased at the store if I can’t find one? I plan on doing this on my 90 civic hatch std. Do you have any feedback on the monotech harness from eBay? Also, after the swap, would it be plug and play if I swap a d16a6 in the future. I think I’m the only car girl here. Thanks in advance.
To answer your questions. No, I don't believe they sell it new any longer. You're DX fuel line will actually work just fine. We used it on a swap we did on a CRX a few months back. The Monotech harness is excellent. And yes! And thanks for the support and watching, I love the diversity! :)
Hola hola me gusta mucho esta información esta muy buena mi auto es un civic 91 tbi mi computadora es una PM9 sirve para este proyecto o tengo que cambiarla por la PM6 gracias.
I've heard you can run OBD1 injectors without the resistor box is this true? I can't find any Si's that haven't been stripped clean. haven't even found a civic wagon or sedan anywhere yet. I'll pretty much have to use parts from a 92+ civic as those are still available in small numbers.
And the hose kit is generic eBay 10pc silicone kit? sorry for the million questions MPFI is probably the hardest thing to do on these things. Also you said the firewall map sensor can be removed for an 92+ intake manifold sensor I'm not sure how one does that.
Been watching your vids and subscribed since I just got a 90 civic hatch! If I plan to swap to a b series or even a k-series. Would it benefit me to do the DPFI to MPFI now or wait until I do the swap in the future along with converting to OBD1 etc. Seems like I'd have to do this twice when I do a swap in the future. Rather save the money to upgrade rotors/pads, update worn out suspension pieces before worrying about going faster at the moment lol.
I was wondering if you could help me out. I have a 90' CRX DX I just purchased and I would like to convert it to MPFI. Well I was lucky enough to come across a 92' Integra Engine Bay harness complete for $40. The goal is to eventually swap in a B18C5 later down the road. Well my question is would I be able to just swap the pins on the ecu side inside the car and connect the Integra engine bay harness? If not why not? Thanks buddy and great videos
Mike Buenrostro I do not believe the Integra harness will connect to the 2 connectors which lead to the ecu. If they are a direct fit then it might work but you'll need to verify that the wires leading to the wiring connector are in the same position from the Integra engine harness to the harness of the crx. If they are the same, you could attempt it. I haven't seen done that way before though, or maybe I just haven't seen anyone document it. I'd try to find all wiring schematics first, and go from there. I know this swap can seem overwhelming but it's really not that difficult. I tried to be as accurate and helpful as possible to make it easy for all future dpfi to MPFI swaps for anyone in the future.
Hey man, I love the show and I wanted to reach out and pick your brain. Is the CRX HF intake manifold the same as the Si? and the other question...I know your more into producing power but what if you wanted to go for better mileage? The CRX HF comes with a Mpfi, wouldn't it make sense to go with a Dpfi to increase fuel economy?
+Tango Tango It's smaller than the Si manifold. The TB opening and runners are all smaller. You couldn't put a DPFI manifold onto an HF engine. The HF requires 4 fuel injectors and also has the EGR valve on it which also aids on the better MPG's. But for fuel economy, I would stay with the DPFI setup if that's what you already have. The HF transmission with the HF engine are what make the gas mileage ideal. I've seen people use the HF trans on a DX or Si engine and the results aren't as impressive.
Right now I've got a bone stock 91' HF and it's my daily(42mpg mixed driving) it's doing great on mpg, once I have my own house/garage I plan on doing a swap, anyways I'm really diggin your show I've had a wagon and a sedan in the past, now I've got the Crx...I will always drive 4th gen Honda, they are just so much fun to drive!
I love the HF models. I've been patiently waiting on another one to come my way in good shape again. I had one from 12-14 and loved it. I only sold it because my dad gave me a 94 Toyota Pickup that I've been bugging him since forever. I will probably always be into 4th gens as well. They are my generational car for me, I love em!
gathering parts to mpfi swap my 91 hatch, i got an intake manifold from an eg civic, it came with injectors... which should be obd1. If I wanted to use those injectors with this tutorial, I would bypass the resistor box and just solder all the wires that would've went to it together, right?
there's the d15b7 which is exactly the same engine but with MPFI, i dont know if you guys have it in the states, but i probably can just grab the intake and ecu and bam
Nice video!! please can you tell me where the TDC sensor is located? I have a honda civic hatchback 1990, I have CHECK ENGINE and start losing power. According to the blinks they are eight blinks and that is the TDC sensor but I dont know there is located.
This winter, I might be doing this swap, but I think I got the D15b1, 1990 honda civic with a 4 speed, this swap should still be doable, right? From what I read, the only difference is that the d15b1 has a restrictor plate and a different tune, but with a new ecu and manifold, that shouldn't matter.
@@GarageBuiltHondas thanks. I'm trying to fill my shopping cart with everything I need. What is the best way to find the clips for the fuel injectors and all of the other wiring clips things you have?
No luck, when I was searching for these for my car I was lucky to have remaining what I had. I'm going to try to get to the junkyard these coming week though and find some parts.
i have everything to do this swap. i went obd1 s300. i have dizzy with plugs and ecu harness, ecu, kick plate, and a hush performance zc/rt half shaft adapter for d blocks without predrilled holes
So my D15 just shit the bed, I'm planning on doing a complete D16A6 swap from a '90 Civic EX. If I pulled everything, ECU, harness, engine, ,manifold/tb, dizzy and resistor box would I still need to convert it? And I'm assuming if I did it's the same process as what you're doing here.
You can, but I wanted to retain the car being obd0. For someone doing the DPFI to MPFI swap for the first time, it can be a very difficult job. Throw in converting from obd0 to obd1 and it can be a nightmare for a first timer. Now that I have my MPFI swap done, it would be a lot easier to convert to obd1 as the car is running great! Those videos will be up soon too. Lol
I'll have that info in the 3 part of these videos if you want to wait another week or so. Finishing putting the footage together. The info I am offering is for obd0 though.
I wrote you before in another video and I see better where you want to get, very interesting to see if you earn some cv with respect to the investment made and how many will be, I really want to see the next video, greetings
Ok perfect, congratulations, I like your videos because you are giving a sense before and after the modification and I think that is key to understand how much is gained or that improves with the new setup, sorry part of this is translated into google
Can I use the parts from a honda accord 91 EX? If possible can I replace the engine and transmission from that car as well ? My car is a civic 90 dx with the D15b1 engine. Thank you for your great videos
Great stuff John. I have 91 wagon auto. I picked up a EG DX manifold with complete harness, injectors, everything attached to it and the ECU. Also auto. Besides the dizzy, What else do i need to get to make this work? And is the procedure the same as you described? Ill be using the EG ECU to go 0BD1. Any help and guidance is appreciated 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
Hey man, you did a great set of videos, and my car fired up immediately afterwards! However, when using the a6 intake manifold, dizzy, and everything else, now the car idles very high at 3k. I have no vacuum leaks, could a bad intake manifold gasket cause this? What intake manifold gasket would you recommend, the a6 or the d15b2? Thank you in advance, eager to get the crx running!
@@GarageBuiltHondas the gasket was mated to the intake manifold, I did not want to break that seal. I am thinking it could not be sealing correctly against the block. Regardless, will be looking at that and the TB gasket. The IACV gasket is brand new.
It's not really mated, it's just old and compressed hence why it probably didn't seal. It has probably been on there for years being flattened. New intake manifold gaskets are a necessity.
@@GarageBuiltHondas thanks man, I have never worked with this style gasket so i figured with its extra thickness it would be more formable. Definitely going to be swapped out today! Thanks for the expedient responses man, definitely appreciated 🤘
If I wanted to also swap to obd1, which other parts do I need/dont need ? Can anyone help me out with this I cant find anything really on the subject. Would hate to buy an ecu that doesnt work with obd1 and have to re purchase different parts. I have a 90 crx d15b2 obd0 with dpfi, the goal is to get to mpfi and obd1
My friend, explain something to me. I have a turbo d16 and i plan to swap it into an european eg4, it has a d15b2 in it. How the hell should i do it with the wiring, do you recomend me to swap the entire cabin harness? Or should i pull wires directly to the ECU, i have a p28 and i will be using the stock d16z6 harness which is obviously is obd1. I've never done this and i would like to know if there is a better easier approach to it.
How much different is this wiring if I am completely swapping engines from a D15B2 to D16Z6 with VTEC? I bought the in-cabin OBD0 to OBD1 ECU swap harness and the short distributor harness on ebay for about $40. I plan to use a P28 ECU.
I know this video is old but I'm hoping its still active. I was wondering if I could use the 92-95 intake manifold with the pm6 ecu. Hard to come by the pm6 manifold but the 92-95 dx manifold is a lot easier to find. Would I need a different ecu? are there any other parts I would need to match the 92-95 intake manifold?
hey jon on my 92 d15b I wanted to change my manifold because of the small throttle body and manifold do you know which one will fit or work for mine????
Cat Tran I would leave it alone unless getting an aftermarket upgraded intake manifold. I think the work involved in swapping over another oem stock manifold wouldn't be worth the time/energy.
I was waiting for someone to this video, thanks man, I'm waiting for the installation video, and if you can tell us the difference on putting a 92-95 intake manifold and the 88-91, i have more access to a 92-95 so I'll appreciate it
No big difference, you can use it. If you use the p06 manifold with the matching throttle body you'll need to use the map sensor on the throttle body instead. Everything else will be the same
Jon Widmer the p06 manifold is the DX 92-95? I'll wait for the next videos, and start getting some stuff, I hear the pr4 will make the system richer? is that true?
I have a 89 dx sedan. Im thinking of putting a d16z6 i have. Would it be better to get the original harness from the d16z6 or just do dpfi to mpfi swap? I know d16z6 is obd1 so im a little confused there. I have everything from the engine. Original harness and ecu p28. Please help. THANK YOU
Hey John I have a request. I know this video is old and I do follow you to this date on all your videos, but could you possibly go over DPFI directly to OBD1?
Garage Built Hondas People always concert from MPFI to OBD1 where you have to take out the resistor box and run some different wires and I’m just confused as to why you’d go through the hassle twice if you could just convert to OBD1 right away while doing the MPFI swap. I’m lost lol
It's all preference. Some aren't ready for all of it at the same time. Money/parts, or time constraints. You can go a couple different routes depending on what you have available.
I have a bunch of parts. I'm going to go through and keep the ones I'll need for an extra engine I have, and the rest I'll let go. Give me a a couple weeks to get to all of the parts.
Why do you have to change distributors? It is possible to save the old dizzy? I have a D16y7 in my CRX now and the guy who did the swap did not change over from the DX intake. I am currently doing the swap now but wondering if i can still use the Y7 Dizzy with the swap.
Garage Built Hondas it was DPFI when I bought it and it did not run. Owner said it ran for a few years with a D16y7 and DPFI. currently it has the DPFI intake and TB pulled and the MPFI intake and TB In it. I have done none of the wiring at this point. I am waiting on getting a PM6 ECU and Si throttle cable and wanting to clear up the confusion with the Dizzy.
john great video like always and Yes you can run a y8 manifold in that head. i had a crx si d16a6 and already had one y8 mani .
Thanks Jean, and good to know, thanks for letting me know!!
No, same parts needed.
How bout the gasket it’s the same or do I get the y8 intake gaskrt
Get the gasket for whichever manifold you are using.
would the y7 intake manifold also work?
Yes I've been patiently waiting for this video just in this I video alone makes me see how many parts I've been leaving behind at the yards
Nice, now you know what to scoop up!
Garage Built Hondas fuck yeah!
Thankyou so much for this video series, my d15 lost compression the other day and I bought a d16a6 but I had no clue what I was doing. 80-81whp is pretty nice since 15% drivetrain loss alone on 92hp would theoretically put you around 78whp.
Agreed, that was actually the first time I ever ran it that hard!!
So thorough..I know it's an older video, I'm slowly getting caught up after work/on rain days. I Love watching your videos Jon

Will be up soon! The car is finished, just gotta put all the video together!
Jon your Honda knowledge is never ending! Great info. Why can't you be my neighbor 😧 Haha
Lol, I'd enjoy it. I love talking shop and helping out!!
If he was my neighbor I'd be creepin always LOL
Yeah the Y8 manifold works but you also need 92- up throttle body. I was running it on OBD0 . Keep in mind that theres different IACV for the manual and auto manifold
Awesome info, thanks for that!!
I NEED to know are the d15b2 and d16a6 manifolds different between manual and Automatic
+Boosted Fool The a6 is identical except it has one extra coolant nipple on the bottom closest to the thermostat housing. I encountered that with my swap. I do not know if the dpfi manifold has the extra line, but it just might.
Garage Built Hondas what do I do with the extra nipple giggidy lol.
Boosted Fool 3:18 of this video. Take a look real quick. ruclips.net/video/EHlkQB0p-xs/видео.html
love all your videos and this vdo is perfect for my need THANKS!
You got it!!
Found this clip, thanks! heck even if it came to $300 AUD, it'd be worth it.
I did this to my 90 auto DX hatch. I used the P08 mani and a PS9 auto ecu. It keeps up with traffic now with the same fuel economy!
👍
I’m doing this on my 89 auto civic now. Did you have to change the Transmission kick down cable or did you use the stock one? Also, was there anything extra that you had to do since it’s an automatic ?
@@chaunceydarden I used everything off of the P08 mani
Sweet, thanks Ben!!
but to use the y8 intake manifold as i had you have to do some trimming of either head castings or the intake manifold
Where at? What part is the problem area?
Jon Widmer the bottom of the intake manifold where the obd0 and obd1 are raised up they are flatter across on the bottom of the y8 intake manifold
Peak power was 151 Whp.
d16y8 manual intake manifold will work. the auto manifold have a weird iacv. but will still work.
Awesome, that's what I thought!! Thanks homie!!
What else would work I’m trying to convert my wagon and I have a d16y8 manifold
He verified it will work.
would the y7 intake manifold also work?
You can also use a PG7 ecu from a 88-89 integra 👍👍
Nice, thanks!!
Great video thanks!!! Have a 93 Civic cz hb with si intake on 1.5 and si transmission and it pulls!!!
The Si transmission does fell good. It felt a lot better with the Si trans install.
Well... if you think about (which I would never do) factoring in the parasitic losses from the drive train (15% loss at wheels), it is actually making more then the original rated powers of horse!!! Nearly 1 whole Unicorn Power (BHP/100 at the crank) which is incredible considering the age and mileage.
I love parentheses (I actually don't)
True, I'd prefer to put an AC compressor in place of the turbo. 😀
Great video great content and yes u can run a y8 intake just different gaskets i believes
If el paso weren't such a drive I'd head on out that way and see if I can pester you for some help with this. I just got my wagon up and running again and need to do this conversion on it. Great video though
greenteagod on the civic wagon forum
I'll be doing my first mpfi swap on my hatch pretty soon. I want to see what I can get out of the b2.
It won't a huge increase in power, but you'll feel it for sure. The throttle response is one of the biggest differences you'll notice.
Lol
Very informative! Wait, what about George W. Bush's accent? Was that not for real?
Lol, now that fool speaks like that. He's straight country!!
Good to know. Haha. I'm all the way up here, in snowy Canada. I would love to show you vids/pics of my car, but I would prefer not to do it publicly. Do you have a website or something, where I could send the data?
👍👍👍 always doing great videos.
Thanks brotha!
heck yeah man! that hatch is so clean.
Thanks man!! What engine management are you using??
Jon Widmer I am running a ZIF socketed obd1 p75 with Neptune/Demon.
That interior is in fucking mint condition
Except my driver seat. It's ripped pretty rough!
Jon Widmer good job though!👍
Thanks man!!
Obd1 conversion would be needed also.
Yo! Just picked up a Jdm d15b 3 stage vtec , what ecu do I run? Currently swapping it into my sedan with dual point setup. Thank you bro, ur vids are awesome
Probably a Hondata setup so you can get it tuned properly
All these parts as little as $100? This intake manifold alone is almost $300. Found the pm6 ecu for $100 by itself. Its all pretty rare parts to find so to say they are all around $100 is pretty crazy.
They are now. Not Pre-covid and at the time of the release of this video. You should follow me on Instagram. I just sold a pm6 ECU for $70 shipped 2 weeks ago and a complete d16a6 intake manifold setup for like $150 shipped.
I like vids like this. Keep them coming. Wish you lived closer to me so you could help me work on my 89 RT4WD Wagon!
That'd be cool, it's always fun to help out!
if the mpfi swap can negate the power loss when i turn on the a/c i’ll be happy
Cheers!
what if it a auto transmission what ecu shood i use?would a pm5 work?
No. You need the 90-91 Civic EX ECU.
@@GarageBuiltHondas 90-91 Civic wagon RT4WD OEM ECU AUTO 37820-PM6-A60?
john your the man!!! badass video 🙌
Appreciate it manny!!!
Jon Widmer your welcome Joh loving the videos
Why not use OBD1 high impedance injectors and eliminate the resister box BS wiring?
great video!, just a question... why do you need the different distribuitor?
Each one doesn't work with each respective setup.
Hola hola me gusta mucho esta información esta muy buena mi auto es un civic 91 tbi mi computadora es una PM9 sirve para este proyecto o tengo que cambiarla por la PM6 gracias.
You'll need the PM6 if staying OBD0. PM9 is still a DPFI ECU similar to the PM5.
ok muchas gracias por la informacion.
What ECU would you use if you wanted to keep the transmission automatic but go to MPFI?
This is a great help! But can I ask where you can get the injector resistor box and plug from. Any links ect...
Ebay, local OfferUp and Facebook. These are used parts, there aren't any links to just buy them from.
Thanks for this video, it is very helpful. Can i use pm5 ecu? And can i ask if you have any extra round connector for the distributor?
No, no.
I've heard you can run OBD1 injectors without the resistor box is this true? I can't find any Si's that haven't been stripped clean. haven't even found a civic wagon or sedan anywhere yet. I'll pretty much have to use parts from a 92+ civic as those are still available in small numbers.
Yes, you will just run all those wires together instead of to the resistor box.
You're right, wait and do it all together when ready. Nothing will make your car feel better than refreshing the suspension. 👍
Thanks for the follow!
Right now I've got a bone stock 91' HF and it's my daily(42mpg mixed driving) it's doing great on mpg, once I have my own house/garage I plan on doing a swap, anyways
I'm really diggin your show I've had a wagon and a sedan in the past, now I've got the Crx...I will always drive 4th gen Honda, they are just so much fun to drive!
If I wanted to use those injectors with this tutorial, I would bypass the resistor box and just solder all the wires that would've went to it together, right?
yes
there's the d15b7 which is exactly the same engine but with MPFI, i dont know if you guys have it in the states, but i probably can just grab the intake and ecu and bam
Yes, it's from the 92-95 Civic here in the states. 👍
Nice video!! please can you tell me where the TDC sensor is located? I have a honda civic hatchback 1990, I have CHECK ENGINE and start losing power. According to the blinks they are eight blinks and that is the TDC sensor but I dont know there is located.
You need a new distributor.
where do you find all your cars the wagon is super clean
Honestly, I'm just "always" looking and jumped on the ones I wanted. They pop up every now and then too!
its amazing how old and how many miles it has and still run pretty good nice dude
Right, runs smooth still!!
Correct. The d15b1 is a little weaker too but the same process applies.
@@GarageBuiltHondas thanks. I'm trying to fill my shopping cart with everything I need. What is the best way to find the clips for the fuel injectors and all of the other wiring clips things you have?
Hey Jon do you have and extra distributor plug and a injectors resistor box plug and also that plug you showed in 5:57
No luck, when I was searching for these for my car I was lucky to have remaining what I had. I'm going to try to get to the junkyard these coming week though and find some parts.
Jon on the distributor do you need both plugs because I bought just the bigger one with seven wires do you need both?

Might be a dumb question but would all the wiring you show throughout this series work with my 91 sedan dx ?
Not dumb at all. Yes it will, 100%. It'll be exactly the same process.
You'll need the entire car wiring harness from the 90 EX for it to work. Swapping just the engine harness won't work.
i just got a ef sedan lx. and it was so slow i thought it was broke. use to my turbo crx
Haha, they are pretty darn weak
Some one can tell me what is the code of the distribuidor, I’m looking for the TD-02U ?
why dont use to do mpfi parts from d15b7 inclusive ecu p06 ????
You can, but I wanted to retain the car being obd0. For someone doing the DPFI to MPFI swap for the first time, it can be a very difficult job. Throw in converting from obd0 to obd1 and it can be a nightmare for a first timer. Now that I have my MPFI swap done, it would be a lot easier to convert to obd1 as the car is running great!
Those videos will be up soon too. Lol
Jon Widmer where can I find info specifically on the wiring for a b20 (preferably a b20z) into an ED hatch that has DPFI
I'll have that info in the 3 part of these videos if you want to wait another week or so. Finishing putting the footage together. The info I am offering is for obd0 though.
Jon Widmer what kind of camera do you use
What's the difference?
Is doing this smog legal in California?
Good question. Ask the BAR. They can probably give you an answer.
I wrote you before in another video and I see better where you want to get, very interesting to see if you earn some cv with respect to the investment made and how many will be, I really want to see the next video, greetings
It probably won't be much, but it drives much nicer and has better acceleration compared to the dpfi setup.
Ok perfect, congratulations, I like your videos because you are giving a sense before and after the modification and I think that is key to understand how much is gained or that improves with the new setup, sorry part of this is translated into google
Awesome, glad you like! I've always wanted to make the videos and finally had the time!
One more question where did you buy your distributor
I got mine off eBay
Jon Widmer thx
Can I use the parts from a honda accord 91 EX? If possible can I replace the engine and transmission from that car as well ? My car is a civic 90 dx with the D15b1 engine.
Thank you for your great videos
No, they won't fit. That's an f series engine. That engine swamps a lot more difficult into this chassis.
Jon did you go to Honda and bought that throttle cable or you bought it online if you did bought it online can you give me the website please

Jon Widmer ok thank you
Great stuff John.
Sounds like you got pretty much everything except the jumper harness to go obd1. 👍
Thank you man. whats the part # for the throttle cable if you still have it somewhere?
I cannot remember. Go to hondapartsunlimited.com and search a 91 Civic Si. You'll find it there, that's where I bought mine.
It's very possible. The gasket is the same for both setups. Did you use a brand new one?
It would be easier to wire your engine harness into mpfi, then do the obd1 conversion using the jumper harness kit for the ECU and the distributor.
How much different is this wiring if I am completely swapping engines from a D15B2 to D16Z6 with VTEC? I bought the in-cabin OBD0 to OBD1 ECU swap harness and the short distributor harness on ebay for about $40. I plan to use a P28 ECU.
The wiring is the same, but you'll need to complete it first for just dpfi to mpfi, then you can add your conversion harnesses.
I thought all HF (High Fuel Economy) civics were MPFI? So MPFI should have better fuel mileage?
HF is mpfi, but it's built for better MPG's. The Si mpfi is not.
@@GarageBuiltHondas gotcha
I know this video is old but I'm hoping its still active. I was wondering if I could use the 92-95 intake manifold with the pm6 ecu. Hard to come by the pm6 manifold but the 92-95 dx manifold is a lot easier to find. Would I need a different ecu? are there any other parts I would need to match the 92-95 intake manifold?
Yes. No. No.
hey jon on my 92 d15b I wanted to change my manifold because of the small throttle body and manifold do you know which one will fit or work for mine????
Cat Tran I would leave it alone unless getting an aftermarket upgraded intake manifold. I think the work involved in swapping over another oem stock manifold wouldn't be worth the time/energy.

Nice man, question this parts works with 1991 Honda Civic wagon automatic transmission?
Yes. But you'll need the PS9 ECU also.
And the wiring is the same or is different.
Same
hey jon, going to be doing a mini me swap .. is there anything wrong with using a JDM D15B bottom end with a D16Z6 head?
None, it will work
You cant use 96 and up do to manifold temp is missing
Manifold temp? Are you referring to the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor? If so, that sensor is present on all of the 6th Gen manifolds.
Yes it is. The pr4 will run rich. When I used it, my idle also stayed high but it will work if it's your only option for the mean time.

You have to use your original harness from your chassis and do an mpfi setup.
Hey John I have a request. I know this video is old and I do follow you to this date on all your videos, but could you possibly go over DPFI directly to OBD1?
I'm not sure what you mean, please clarify?
Garage Built Hondas People always concert from MPFI to OBD1 where you have to take out the resistor box and run some different wires and I’m just confused as to why you’d go through the hassle twice if you could just convert to OBD1 right away while doing the MPFI swap. I’m lost lol
It's all preference. Some aren't ready for all of it at the same time. Money/parts, or time constraints. You can go a couple different routes depending on what you have available.
Jon is there any chance that you have another pm6 ecu and a resistor box and also the distributor or is there any place that I could find them
I have a bunch of parts.

Is your car still dpfi?
Garage Built Hondas it was DPFI when I bought it and it did not run. Owner said it ran for a few years with a D16y7 and DPFI. currently it has the DPFI intake and TB pulled and the MPFI intake and TB In it. I have done none of the wiring at this point. I am waiting on getting a PM6 ECU and Si throttle cable and wanting to clear up the confusion with the Dizzy.
This was all running off the stock 89 CRX DX ECU to my understanding. ECU appears to be a PM5.
You need the mpfi dizzy. It worked on the old setup because it was still dpfi.
