I dont like nintendos choice: since few years they dont allow Special Characters from typical races like special toads yoshis or whatever like the toads in this city
The change from toad designs to standard character staples likely falls into the same vein as why Paper Marios can't change the look of iconic characters to make unique ones for years now.
you forgot to mention that the mini-games star for classic bonus is calculated differently. Before it was measured by how much coins you won in minigames (battles and coin minigames were worth more) Now, is how much minigames you placed 1st. Can be different and more likely to result in ties.
And some of the things in minigames (such as the cars in Slot Car Derby) don't have character colors anymore, just generic player colors. Those should be brought to the table in an update (along with Pauline because she is now officially best Mario girl).
@@zigslotheon Nintendo is a multi billion dollar company. They have the resources to put in work and not be lazy. Instead they choose not too. For you it may be minor, but all of these little things add to the charm of Nintendo. By not doing things like the costumes or the unique toads (both for mario party and paper mario series) etc etc. then Nintendo becomes more bland compared to the stuff that they used to put out years ago and to me, there is no excuse. These little things can make the difference between a good game and a great/amazing game that is memorable.
The biggest problem, imo, is the excessive number of lucky spaces. I didn't do the math so this probably isn't accurate, but it often feels like there are more lucky spaces than blue spaces. The idea of "luck" implies it is something that is fortunate, but doesn't happen very often, or generally with out intention or skill. The ironic thing is with the right timing (skill) you can get whatever you want from the roulette on these spaces.. it is not random, and if you know what you are doing,, no "luck" is involved. If On these boards, you could land on these spaces every other turn, or maybe more than that. Were lucky spaces even around in the originals? From the N64, I only played MP2 and I don't remember them. I don't really know what they add besides screwing up the whole economy of the gameplay.
No is brought back from Super Mario Party but here is way to much the first board has nine of them and Horror land has 24 of them is that nuts how many lucky spaces are in the game ugh.
Yes, this is a problem. I hope they give us an option to cut down on them or at the very least they should disappear like the vs spaces mini game spaces do.
I wish we had the option to turn them off. It’s one of the biggest negatives of the game, tbh, and their reward always feel so undeserved, even in a game that’s based as much around luck like Mario Party. Just give us the ability to turn them into regular Blue Spaces before starting a game, and I’m happy.
The only thing I know that's missing here is something I came across on accident. Dizzy Dancing, from MP2, is no longer a game where you just get the music note in the middle and the game ends. It's now a scoring mini game that lasts with a timer.
I'm still so pissed off that we didn't get a second MP3 board. I guess it would've made too much since. Aside from that and a few minor nitpicks, I'd say MPSS is a really good return to form for the series. One that I will definitely be buying some time soon.
yah.. I rly thought till the release day they would hide at least 1 boards from MP3 to make it at least even with all 3 Titles And it was always a feature of MP to unlock 1 Secret/hidden Board.. even SMP had it.. Why no MPS.. doesnt get it.. I hope so much we get a 6th board at least From Mp3 boards.. I r,ly cant decide.. Waluigi Island, Spiny Desert or Chilly Waters, all are good and nice
As someone whose played every mario party (except 10) I can say it's been a relief playing this game, because it's really brought back the roots of what made Mario Party great in the first place while tossing a ton of minigames from all titles into it and revamping the graphics. I hope they play it smart and use this title to build upon what they've already done and add DLC boards and characters. Waluigi's Island, Faire Square, Boo's Haunted Hideaway, Pirate Land, Eternal Star, Mystery Land, E.Gadd's Garage, Rainbow Castle and Koopa's Tycoon Town are all boards I could personally see come back that I enjoyed. My favorite to come back would gave to be Goomba Gala from Mario Party 4. Either way this has been a blast

Imagine a DLC that gives you costumes or skins. So it's like Mario Party 2! I'd just hope it's board specific but just skins in general could be fun. Maybe even chose your yoshi color and have multiple people play Yoshi.
I honestly would have like the original economy to be an option in the settings by toggling lucky spaces, koopaling bank cost, minigame coin division and being able to set the amount of coins bowser can steal on Yoshis Island/Peach’s birthday cake (like just a big and small option). Altogether I am pretty happy with the game but half of the changes they made just seem unnecessary (mostly the economy changes). I am grateful they did some nice quality of life changes to the board though.
The classic bonus stars aren't exactly "classic" either. The minigame star now goes to whoever came first in the most minigames, not who won the most coins in minigames. The coin (rich) star now goes to the player who collected the most coins overall, not the player who had the highest number of coins at any one time. I kind of wish we could set them to a *truly* classic set-up.
Oh cool I didn't know that thanks! Man I do really hope we get GameCube era boards and see them modernized! I hope that datamine is true! Oh and on top of that.. extra minigames packs.
The removal of game guy was a big change. There is also 1 other change that is significant. In woody woods when you collect the reverse dice from the gloomy woods, when you roll high on it you cannot choose which direction to travel when you reach the Monty mole intersection. Instead you go back through the bottom route.
should really update a relentless mode, where you have 50 turns, the cost for things and what is stolen is increased, and throw in 1v1 spaces where you select one other play to play a mini game for stars or coins.
Wish woody woods would be more Balance with there items, after 10 rounds the shop had always gold pipes... I could buy 3 pipes that game and my friend as well ...
My memory might be a litte fuzzy, but I don’t think the classic Bonus Stars are actually exactly the way they where back in the day. The ”Rich Star” would be the equivalent to the ”Coin Star”, but in the old games I believe the player who had the single highest coin count at some point in the game wins it, while in this game it’s the person who earned the total amount of most coins throughout the game that wins it, which isn’t the same thing (one is ”who can save up the most”, the other is ”who can earn the most”). And the Minigame Star used to be decided by the person who earned the most coins via minigames, while in this game it’s simply counting who won the most minigames. It’s perhaps tiny details, but if we’re gonna talk about the devs having given attention to details, I think it’s worth pointing out that they actually changed some of that stuff, too. Deliberate changes, I’m sure, as they probably prefer these ways of doing the Bonus Stars (even if I don’t necessarily agree with that decision myself).
As I've never played a mario party before the one on the wii u. For me this is all new. It's not that I'm young, it's more of I was a Playstation kid growing up and my only nintendo systems were the hand held. And when I did start getting the home consoles with the wii. I didn't know anyone who did like mario party so I never actually hear about it. I would have played it with my siblings had we knew, but it was always one of those throw away side games with mario on it. (Ironically my first mario tennis and mario golf are also the switch ones for this same reason, mario kart was the only one we played all the time thanks to the gba mario kart.) As for how the wii u one became my first, well s friend of mine bought it and we went and played it. Liked it, did buy the other switch one. But now that my sister and a few of my cousins are buying switches, we are all getting this.
And it’s kind of a shame too, because ever since Mario Odyssey, Nintendo’s been giving the Mario characters various outfits to wear in future games left and right, this would’ve been a GREAT time to bring back the costumes
I like the first change because weirdly shaped toads on Mario Party 1 looked like they were still designing characters, and none of them were final because of how they looked on the Nintendo 64
Bowser JR doesn’t replace Toadette after someone gets a star. Also, not sure if there is a “Bowser’s Chance Time”? I remember those distinctly from MP2
The game used to be more cruel! I miss it! The intensity of a battle minigame when all your coins are on the line. The items used to be so much more evil too!
koopa banks costing 3 coins instead of 5 is really weird, esp when you consider all the coins you normally get, and the lack of red spaces compared to the original boards is deff odd. i deff think the boards prob shouldve kept a few more of their reds. more minigames being able to end in a tie where multiple chars win when they originally did not do that like mario party 3's snowball summit and toadstool titan(mush pit) is actually a pretty welcome change(some will deff abuse that for sure)
It's a huge improvement compared to Super Mario Party but it just needs a few things fixed. -When you tie everyone gets coins(back then no one gets it) -Lucky Space is literally more free stuff, too many of these. Reduce them to 1-2 spaces. Add some gameguy from MP3 so something screws others over -The items: Bowser Bomb,Phone call or rare items from MP3,etc. It's what made original MP series more chaotic. Part of what made Mario Party well...Mario Party is getting screwed over randomly, without it people will just slowly go back to the old ones instead.
Game guy will never come back because it counts as gambling which is illegal or discouraged in most countries these days. It’s the same reason Pokémon game remakes never have game corners any more.
If costumes were ever to be added, here are my ideas for each board: Yoshi’s tropical Island: tropical outfits, like straw hats and Sandals Space land: astronaut outfits Peach’s birthday cake: chef outfits Woody woods: safari outfits Horror land: wizard outfits
At the very least bring the entire roster of Mario kart 8 to Mario party as playable characters. Is that really too much to ask? Can't be that hard to do.
While creating/recreating themed costumes for every character for every board is unlikely to happen, maybe we can get just general skins on the table? Adding a little bit of customization to the characters would be pretty neat. Maybe you could buy those skins off the shop.
I only miss that the outfits that would change as well with the singleplayer from mario party besides that truly a fun party game (hope more boards come soon)
I gotta be honest.. All these palette swap Toads in all these Mario games bore me. At least grab some Toads from Paper Mario. Some of them actually had personality. I'll miss those Old Toads (R. I. P. probably =/ )
I rly hope they give this game also DLC and Updates.. especially the amount of boards (Character I dont care too much tbh) Sure.. I want to play as Toadette or Dry Bones.. but well.. as long as we have 8/10 Char.. its fine It was ALWAYS this way back in the old series.. 8+2bonus I rather want 1 more board from MP3 + more boards from MP 4-8 Maybe they could give us 4 more boards to make 10 at the end Give us costumes Option to set the amount of lucky spaceS normal - like this moderate - less classic - no lucky spaces chjange the level up system to make it harder to farm so you need/have to play longer/more to get Lv99.
To be honest, I kinda miss the old unique villager designs anymore. I don't get why the "modern Mario era" is so less creative with character designs, and only use generic Toad designs for characters. Similarly, the "Mario & Luigi" remakes replaces unique designs with generic ones too.
Most of the blue spaces are replaced with lucky spaces now.... They should really reduce the amount of these spaces (sometimes in half). It kind of takes the lucky out of lucky space if you keep landing on them because there's so many of them. Also, Koopa Troopa used to give the first person to reach the start 20 coins instead of the usual 10, and then he would pass out 20 coins for every 10th person to cross the start from that point on.
Funny that you talked about changes and showed tick tock hop at the end but forgot to mention that there are endless modes to mini games now to challenge yourself
This game is amazing, so I don’t have any complaints. But something that they did change was Dizzy Dancing. At first, you had 15 seconds (I think) to get one note, and now you have 30 to get as many as possible. This isn’t bad, but it is a change that I thought wasn’t too necessary. Maybe even give us an option to play one version or the other, Nintendo?
I do wish/hope that maybe they'll add costumes to buy from the shop for the existing characters considering I think the character select is just a few too little for my absolute liking, but I'm still happy with the characters we have
I like that they decided to stick with the diversity in the cast for the character species on the main menu because it fits more in line with some lesser known Mario games that do that and it's more appealing.
Ive been playing online. I wish the bonus stars were skill. But they can decide a close game randomly which can be a bit frustrating. But overall, I've accepted there's a lot of luck in general. Super fun overall
Could have mentioned some of the items some weren't in any of the N64 games or were replaced Chomp Call is from MP4, there is no genie instead DS's Golden Pipe, custom dice and double star card from the 3DS's MPs, no poison mushroom but Cursed dice from 3DS, Hidden Block Card from Super Mario Party, and there is no Bowser Suit that was present in 2,3 and 4.
The "Classic" Bonus stars aren't entirely like the originals though, since the Coin star is changed-whereas in the past games it was awarded to whoever held the most coins at any one time during the game, the new Rich Star is for who collected the most coins overall. I liked the old one better.
The fact that they are still removing the different toad designs is bothering me a lot. This choice didn't do any favours to Paper Mario and they are still trying to push it to every game. It's not as noticeable on the newer ones, but it's just jarring to see on the remakes.
Let’s all be real here: Nintendo absolutely sucks with DLC. I’ll believe there will be DLC for this game once it drops, but I’m not holding my breath. those were the classical day. then is an attempt to not include all the mini games from each game. a disappointment really. and instead pick the ones they much rather like. it's rumored that Mario party 1-3 might come to the n64 according to this very channel I hope it's true as id rather play those ones tbh
Instead of a lazy color palette swap
Yeah, and they weren't even called "Toads." There used to be only one Toad, and the rest were just "Mushroom People."
Also, seems a bit OOC for Kamek to help you, seeing as he's basically Bowser's right-hand-man. (And in a way, adoptive "parent/caretaker," as well.)
Thanks a lot mairo galaxy
I dont like nintendos choice: since few years they dont allow Special Characters from typical races like special toads yoshis or whatever like the toads in this city
I would have loved to see Waluigi, Daisy, Birdo and Rosalina in costumes for Space Land and Horror Land
The change from toad designs to standard character staples likely falls into the same vein as why Paper Marios can't change the look of iconic characters to make unique ones for years now.
you forgot to mention that the mini-games star for classic bonus is calculated differently.
Before it was measured by how much coins you won in minigames (battles and coin minigames were worth more)
Now, is how much minigames you placed 1st.
Can be different and more likely to result in ties.
The coin star, too!
But for some reason doesn't tell you how many minigames you've won in the stats. Only shows coins won.
@@Ebola-Jones hahaha, I noticed this, too. It's so weird
Kinda sad how they took away the themed costumes from Mario Party 2
And some of the things in minigames (such as the cars in Slot Car Derby) don't have character colors anymore, just generic player colors. Those should be brought to the table in an update (along with Pauline because she is now officially best Mario girl).
@@zigslotheon Well, it's fun (and strokes the older fans' nostalgia even more).
@@zigslotheon yea they should work on the game
@@zigslotheon Nintendo is a multi billion dollar company. They have the resources to put in work and not be lazy. Instead they choose not too. For you it may be minor, but all of these little things add to the charm of Nintendo. By not doing things like the costumes or the unique toads (both for mario party and paper mario series) etc etc. then Nintendo becomes more bland compared to the stuff that they used to put out years ago and to me, there is no excuse. These little things can make the difference between a good game and a great/amazing game that is memorable.
@@zigslotheon Rosalina didn't exist until Galaxy which was after the last Hudson Soft Mario Party game was released
Ah man, that lack of a 50-turn option is kind of a bummer
At least most of the things you can win in the lucky spaces are items. And they didn't screw the economy.
Who said you were going to actually land on it though ?
The only thing I know that's missing here is something I came across on accident. Dizzy Dancing, from MP2, is no longer a game where you just get the music note in the middle and the game ends. It's now a scoring mini game that lasts with a timer.
I miss the costumes in MP2!!! Peach was so adorable as a witch! I want to dress her up again lowkey 🥺💕
I'm still so pissed off that we didn't get a second MP3 board. I guess it would've made too much since. Aside from that and a few minor nitpicks, I'd say MPSS is a really good return to form for the series. One that I will definitely be buying some time soon.
yah.. I rly thought till the release day they would hide at least 1 boards from MP3 to make it at least even with all 3 Titles
And it was always a feature of MP to unlock 1 Secret/hidden Board.. even SMP had it..
Why no MPS.. doesnt get it.. I hope so much we get a 6th board at least
From Mp3 boards.. I r,ly cant decide.. Waluigi Island, Spiny Desert or Chilly Waters, all are good and nice
@@StefanB85 i was hoping to see Deep Bloober Sea in there
waliuigi island is fun
Sad to hear about those outfits. That was one of the most charming parts of MP2
Mystery Land??? Well, more power to you.
@@GeneralDragon011 spooked me the fuck out as a child so I've always loved it now cause it brings back some funny memories. I did say personally, after all.
@@tiddyattacker5786 Even more than Horror Land? Though, now that I think about it, that place did have Shy Guy cultists casting slow spells and Bom-omb alien spaceships.
Yeah, Mystery Land was kinda freaky.
Hate how Mario is made to be as inoffensive as possible now
Inoffensive?
should really update a relentless mode, where you have 50 turns, the cost for things and what is stolen is increased, and throw in 1v1 spaces where you select one other play to play a mini game for stars or coins.
Wish woody woods would be more Balance with there items, after 10 rounds the shop had always gold pipes... I could buy 3 pipes that game and my friend as well ...
but the thing is the golden pipe is 25 coins unless you’re packing in so many coins you wouldn’t be able to do that normally
One change is at the end when you tie you only roll a dice if your tied for 1st any other place stays the same
My memory might be a litte fuzzy, but I don’t think the classic Bonus Stars are actually exactly the way they where back in the day.
Let's goooo! GameCube Boards! :D
I'm loving this game. Hoping DLC is confirmed. So far this is the goat of Mario parties
It's so weird to cap turns at 30. I understand that for online, but for a local game there's no justification.
What does online have to do with the maximum number of turns being 30?
for the 1st change: yeah...it fits the modern mario era with it's unoriginal characters....great era to be in i gotta say
I really hope with the success of this game, that they do remakes for 4, 5, and 6. That was my favorite era, especially 6 on the GameCube
Definitely no costume themes for the characters will never return unfortunately.
I guess Mario Kart took this trend now.
@@Pitrek1113 the mobile one at least. They will probably go back to their no costume trend when they make an actual new mario kart...
Golden Pipe has replaced Genie Lamp
I also kinda miss the 1v1 VS mini games like Swordfighting, Cauldron, Pop Gun etc
The game used to be more cruel! I miss it! The intensity of a battle minigame when all your coins are on the line. The items used to be so much more evil too!
This is gold, especially the online, this game is a revolution!
A Bowser revolution?
@@anonymousgamer5771 Take my free like and leave xD
koopa banks costing 3 coins instead of 5 is really weird, esp when you consider all the coins you normally get, and the lack of red spaces compared to the original boards is deff odd. i deff think the boards prob shouldve kept a few more of their reds.
more minigames being able to end in a tie where multiple chars win when they originally did not do that like mario party 3's snowball summit and toadstool titan(mush pit) is actually a pretty welcome change(some will deff abuse that for sure)
It's a huge improvement compared to Super Mario Party but it just needs a few things fixed.
-When you tie everyone gets coins(back then no one gets it)
-Lucky Space is literally more free stuff, too many of these. Reduce them to 1-2 spaces. Add some gameguy from MP3 so something screws others over
-The items: Bowser Bomb,Phone call or rare items from MP3,etc.
@@JohnTK shame,damn shame.
@@JohnTK that’s gambling but loot boxes aren’t? Really?
Game Guy is never coming back for the reasons stated plus it was unpopular with many fans
Some of these changes not even I knew, and I have been playing it a TON since it released! Thanks for the good video.
If costumes were ever to be added, here are my ideas for each board:
Yoshi’s tropical Island: tropical outfits, like straw hats and Sandals
Space land: astronaut outfits
Peach’s birthday cake: chef outfits
Woody woods: safari outfits
Horror land: wizard outfits
Getting the outfits for the Mario Party 2 boards would be amazing!
At the very least bring the entire roster of Mario kart 8 to Mario party as playable characters. Is that really too much to ask? Can't be that hard to do.
Getting rid of the old NPCs from the village is a sin.
When i see the game and your video title the first thing i miss was the Bowser kid in last star place but you don't mentioned it
While creating/recreating themed costumes for every character for every board is unlikely to happen, maybe we can get just general skins on the table? Adding a little bit of customization to the characters would be pretty neat. Maybe you could buy those skins off the shop.
Man, GameXplain got the right Mario font this time
No Mr T mushroom Man in the option house ..... That's okay it would have been canceled nowadays
That's exactly why they took it out.
I only miss that the outfits that would change as well with the singleplayer from mario party besides that truly a fun party game (hope more boards come soon)
I miss the Pirate and Train map from 2
I gotta be honest.. All these palette swap Toads in all these Mario games bore me. At least grab some Toads from Paper Mario. Some of them actually had personality. I'll miss those Old Toads (R. I. P. probably =/ )
LET'S GO! NOSTALGIA RETURNS!
The moles could desync in the original Woody Woods too, they just weren’t clear about it
What about shell shock being changed to tread carefully
3:18 Remember my words when memes featuring this animation start popping out all over the internet
no, shut up
really wish we had the costumes and unique looking characters on boards. Guess nintendo just hates personality now 🤷♂️
Because personality is decided by the clothes? lol
4:15 - When set to On, the game will choose three bonus stars instead of two if you've played for 30 turns.
One board I hope that they add is koopas tycoon town from 8 that is one of the best boards in the series
Wish it was three random bonus stars at the end instead of two.
You can set it to 30 turns if you want 3 randomized
I rly hope they give this game also DLC and Updates.. especially the amount of boards (Character I dont care too much tbh)
Sure.. I want to play as Toadette or Dry Bones.. but well.. as long as we have 8/10 Char.. its fine
It was ALWAYS this way back in the old series.. 8+2bonus
I rather want 1 more board from MP3 + more boards from MP 4-8
Maybe they could give us 4 more boards to make 10 at the end
Give us costumes
Option to set the amount of lucky spaceS
normal - like this
moderate - less
classic - no lucky spaces
chjange the level up system to make it harder to farm so you need/have to play longer/more to get Lv99.
It aggravates me that Diddy isn’t a consistent member of the spin-off roster
To be honest, I kinda miss the old unique villager designs anymore. I don't get why the "modern Mario era" is so less creative with character designs, and only use generic Toad designs for characters.
Similarly, the "Mario & Luigi" remakes replaces unique designs with generic ones too.
I kind of miss Game Guy events and answering questions on Item Spaces from Mario Party 3. Also, Duel Mode was pretty fun for 2 players.
As someone who's first extended to the franchise was Mario Party 8, I don't know any of these.
Cool, *now GameCube*
Let's gooooooooooooo
Whoever is making the GameXplain logos needs a promotion.
I'm enjoying the game so far and can't wait to play it with my friends and fiance tomorrow night for Halloween party
The worst change is in space land.
The snifit patrol doesn't send you to the diagonal towards the middle anymore
One change I noticed is that battle spaces now vanishes after someone lands on them! This is good change imo as some games there are too many battles.
That's a good point.
Ive been playing online. I wish the bonus stars were skill. But they can decide a close game randomly which can be a bit frustrating. But overall, I've accepted there's a lot of luck in general. Super fun overall
It needs an option to get rid of or reduce the amount of Lucky Spaces, they get annoying pretty quickly
They forgot to mention mp1 and mp2 never had a 3 item system but now they do
From what I see several event spaces that used to be green are now blue.
No CPU only play?? that totally SUCKS
I AGREE! I can't buy this game because of this. I'll stick to my older copies instead.
@@adamsgaming56 indeed. even the n64 mario party have such vital feature.
"Bowser takes less coins"
He still takes 20 coins 80% of the time
Could have mentioned some of the items some weren't in any of the N64 games or were replaced
Chomp Call is from MP4, there is no genie instead DS's Golden Pipe, custom dice and double star card from the 3DS's MPs, no poison mushroom but Cursed dice from 3DS, Hidden Block Card from Super Mario Party, and there is no Bowser Suit that was present in 2,3 and 4.
Mario party 2's costumes are the only reason the game is the most popular
You can add turns apparently after starting the game.
Let’s all be real here: Nintendo absolutely sucks with DLC. I’ll believe there will be DLC for this game once it drops, but I’m not holding my breath. Mariokart 8 is the best selling Mariokart ever, and they have given it next to no love since coming to Switch. Super Mario Party had no DLC, despite some beliefs there would be
Still a bit miffed that costumes don’t return. But that’s not a deterrent to me
