The "There's lots of free content on youtube. Whats the value in paid vide contrent" made me chuckle. But seriously congrats on this, I'm sure you're very proud!
Let's hope GW doesn't get ahold of the rights for it, or we'll have a £20 pReMiUm LiMiTeD EdITiOn miniature which can be used in 49k, but only as a primaris lieutenant. Oh god no
I love Creaturecaster. Even though they are pricey for models when you are just starting as a beginner, I still got one right away and am now training on cheaper ones before finally tackling that.
Holy crap. Dude, you've outdone yourself- well freaking done to you & your team of people! Producing your own classes and actual minis is awesome and ingenious- especially when the mini looks breath taking like the Duchess.
SON I AM PROUD. But for real though, being able to see the behind the scenes of how stuff is made is always an interesting topic, as well. Everything came out amazing, I'd say. I hope you go far with this.
That vampire looks absolutely amazing, definitely planning on grabbing one of them when I can. As someone who is studying to be a concept artist I'd like to thank you for mentioning the difference between illustration and concept art, so many people don't realise there's actually a difference and concept art is more about getting all the details clear for the other people in the production pipeline (in this case the modeler) than just creating sweet looking art. Big props for supporting everyone involved with links to their artstation/website as well.
Pretty much. I clicked knowing the title was click bait, but thinking I might still pick up a technique or two. There's plenty of valid info in the video, but not in the areas for which I usually watch videos like this. I'm a DIY guy, so I'm a bit disappointed. The video should have been titled something like "Get ANY Miniature You Want made With ZERO Artistic Ability" since we're not going to be the ones doing any of the making.
Congratulations on completing this project, start to finish a really awesome look into one of the ways you can grow beyond the common boundaries of miniature painting.
Would love to see approximate pricing for each 3 steps. From how low to how high the costs can get on each of those steps? Thanks man, love the videos you upload!
What a damm nice looking mini. I wish i had the money to buy one, before there out of stock... This motivates me so much to paint something different then the 40k models that i did till now. Sad truth is that i cant afford it at now :(. Only hope is, that you produce in a year or so, more of this beauty.
I got really excited about your class.... then I realized it's in February.... in Minnesota.... Coming from Atlanta, I have to say please keep us updated on any other classes that you are scheduling.... preferably when snow will not be involved.
For those of you who wanted to know up front what "a decent amount of money" means, jump up to 6:12 to hear that it "can cost thousands of dollars". This video is probably meant for someone who intends to conceptualize, produce, market and sell enough minis to cover a cost of thousands of dollars, not so much the guy sitting at home with no artistic ability who wants to create customs for his D&D party for a couple, three hundred bucks. Still, great info and ideas for people who do intend to start a mini company. I'm a low-grade concept artist and on-the-side game system creator/hobbyist who would love to have a line of early stage post-apoc survivor minis with a Division/ Division 2 aesthetic, so if I ever got the time, inclination, initiative and money (which I won't) this would be a good place to start learning about the process.
Very interesting seeing all the steps involved. Though I must admit, what I'd REALLY like to see is a mini of the Witch (by Tatiana) that first caught your eye. With her arm attached, of course. Great illustration and nice choice of colors, too.
"Of course, I'm a shill," had me cracking up. Great video. Super informational. Model turned out great and I hope this new venture goes really well for you. Keep up the good work.
Gorgeous model! Thinking about getting one. I have a question though: The 3D printmarks showing in the back...and the lower front area - is that your home printer version for painting or is that a cast off the master? i.e. are these lines taken care off in the finished prodcut? thanks!
i saw the mini and thought HEEEY Miniaturesden painted that. and i didn't even know it was yours! it's exactly how i picture vampires and i adore it! nice work scott!
Damn, that is the BEST vampire mini I've ever seen. Lots of menace, not hilariously over-sexualized, with a really cool sword and pose. Just incredible.
Strongly considering getting the model and digital class. I pay for extra content with other youtubers, not because it is "worth it" in a sense that its better than their youtube content, but because I like them, and I want to support them. I am sure lots of other people are in the same boat.
This so hard. Recently, I got a commission of a D&D character I've been running for 3 years. My wife is a fantastic artist, but I also didn't want her to be burdened with my commission, since she tends to do what she wants, when she wants. Any time I'm asked to do something artsy for a friend, I give them suggestions on where to go or how to do it themselves. Only give your talents for free when it's your choice!
This is great. I'm a professional concept artist and sculpture for 3D printing and was terrified by the title!! haha. But thanks for giving a shout out to all us creatives! There is a ton of free resources how to draw, design, model and sculpt your own models. It is a massive learning curve but so so possible!. There is also a large community that can help guide you for all those categories if you wish to learn but it does take years of dedication time and effort. If that's not your thing then hiring a professional is the next best thing and cheaper then spending years learning how to do it all yourself :)
Nice Scott. I didn't know there were services out there for this kind of thing. That mini is fantastic! I'm sure you put a lot of time and effort into it and it shows. Thanks for posting this. Cheers!

Well with limitations and probably only if you want a specific miniature for yourself, there's heroforge where you can design a mini and they can print it out or just give you stl file for yourself to print it, but its cool you made your own miniature to sell.

My sincere congratulations on the success of your undertaking! Your determination and courage to pursue it paid off. I have a question regarding the hiring of artists for commissions, if you or anyone else would be so kind as to be open to answering it. Once an artist has been paid for their work, do you, the commissioner, have total licence of ownership of the art to use and sell? Would that be dependent on the artist, or would they be entitled to royalties, regardless?

@Miniac is this model a very limited option to get since well now up to Christmas with everything things can get tight and wondering if it would still be buyable later on in say 2-3 months.
You shill away good sir. You've put the effort in and it's a beautiful mini. I love your content, and even though I'm a fairly decent painter (better than I give myself credit for apparently, or so I've been told by a golden demon winner when I asked him for some tips) I still always take something away from your videos. I would love to take a class by you, but living in the UK that's kinda difficult, so I'll settle for the pdf class instead. Keep up the great work young man and I wish you all the best.....
As a production designer and costume maker it brings me such joy to see someone giving concept designers the big ups they deserve! Also the vibe of this channel is awesome. metal and minis
Anyone have an idea what the process costed from beginning to end if some amateur wanted to get a bunch of quotes to make their own concept into a miniature?
@@Pitolek1993 true, but to his credit his work leaves a lot of creative interpretations to the miniature designer giving them more space as an artist, it's just a different way of approaching it. He works off moods, shapes and form, and then it is up to the miniature designer to craft something that can exist as a physical piece.
@@NMahon I will 100% agree. Unfortunately most gaming companies will not allow young artists to do the same. It's pretty much specific 100% digital workflow these days. Mostly because it's faster and easier.
@@Pitolek1993 Personally, as a game artist, I prefer my concept art to be as clear as possible tbh, though sometimes having spaces for creative interpretations is fine imo (eg. the inside of mouths, or sometimes recesses).
@@Pitolek1993 that's fair, it's somewhat lamentable that the art of interpretation and design is diminished, taking away the miniature designer as more of an artist, but I understand that times have changed
That was a generous presentation. Thanks. I’d like to add:"Never as a friend to do concept art for you!" I have many friends in the Zbrush community to create such things full time…I would never as them to to it as a favor. I’d ask for a referral. If my friend was free, I might ask, but would pay the going rate.
Congrats man, she looks wonderful!
I love that I can always find a supportive comment from you on Scott's vidoes.
Holy crap, did not expect to see Tatiana in the video. But then again, she is an incredible artist. The miniuature is absolutely gorgeous, Scott!

How to make any miniature you want with zero artistic ability: Have a lot of money.
Meanwhile, here I am trying to create concept arts so I can finally print myself a 1/10 Noise Marine bust. Or 6, IDK. :V

I would love to take a class by you, but living in the UK that's kinda difficult, so I'll settle for the pdf class instead.
Keep up the great work young man and I wish you all the best.....
Thank you for this vid.
As a production designer and costume maker it brings me such joy to see someone giving concept designers the big ups they deserve! Also the vibe of this channel is awesome. metal and minis
That Morbius poster has aged fantastically
What a cool video! Thanks for sharing the journey, and congratulations!
Congrats. Cool mini.
Looks super cool Scott CCongratz!
Jesus that's a beautiful piece, amazing job!
I've only worked on gundam model kits, but I'd like to get some minis soon.
I did it, I got ma minis today!
The Intercessors + Paint set, can't wait to try this!
I'm really proud of you.
Anyone have an idea what the process costed from beginning to end if some amateur wanted to get a bunch of quotes to make their own concept into a miniature?
"A concept artist has to have all their detail locked in"
John Blanche would beg to differ!
dudes a legend and was a legend before modern concept design thats how he gets away with it.
@@Pitolek1993 that's fair, it's somewhat lamentable that the art of interpretation and design is diminished, taking away the miniature designer as more of an artist, but I understand that times have changed
really nice model. Any chance of a smaller version somewhere in the 28m to 32mm scale in the future?
That was a generous presentation. Thanks. I’d like to add:"Never as a friend to do concept art for you!" I have many friends in the Zbrush community to create such things full time…I would never as them to to it as a favor. I’d ask for a referral. If my friend was free, I might ask, but would pay the going rate.
That's a really good looking mini!
That model is incredible! I will definitely be buying one once I can see the bottom of my drawer of unpainted models.
