The song mixed with the smooth 1 shot camera work lures you into a false sense of comfort, then when it zooms in on the creepy looking tree you know shits gonna get real
When the words scrolled up explaining Ed and Lorraine Warren’s careers and the upcoming most malevolent experience, I was hooked from that point on.
We watched this as the last full show in theaters. The cinema was already cold, but when the scrolling opening title came out with its loud, ominous music, it sent shivers down our spines.
If only the Annabelle movies were as good as this scene.
Agreed. Annabelle as a story concept seems to work best in small quantities. Case in point: the first 5 minutes here. It's purpose being two-fold: 1.) to introduce us to the main characters and 2.) to establish the tone of the impending movie.

Because this movie had the least budget. That works so well because it came off natural and raw with no cgi’s and effects. The newer ones rely too much on CGI and it looks too polished to look scary. The first conjuring was scary because of how natural and eerie it was compare to the other conjuring movies
I wish Annabelle would get a movie based on the opening 5 minutes.

There are a lot of continuity errors in the timeline to the Conjuring Universe: Here, it states the Warrens met Annabelle in 1968, then jumps to 1971; but the Annabelle prequel takes place in 1970. If Annabelle is a prequel, then it should've taken place in 1967.
The very first existence of Annabelle’s haunting phenomenon is on 1943 as been revealed in Annabelle : Creation

I’ve always liked how the Warrens always go into these cases as skeptics, always trying to find rational explanations first. Lends them a certain kind of credibility

@Stephanie Everyone says that until they start experiencing inexplicable occurrences and sounds. These things do exist. There is plenty of evidence and even police investigations that confirm haunting that aren't hoaxes.
