    I live in a soft water area but about once every 6 months I put two scoops of Ariel bio on and run a 95 degree white cotton cycle
    I also leave the door wide open all the time when not using and my machine is 35 years old and nothing has gone wrong expect a couple of bearing changes

    • @eSpares

    E spares I have a question as to how (after you sprayed and scrubbed the detergent housing area) did you get all of the crud to come out of that area? Does it just rinse away during the cleaning cycle that you then ran? Or did you some how manage to wipe that housing area out with a cloth ?
    Thank you ,great video:O)

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      Hi Leslie, As you scrub the mould away the sludge will fall into the bottom of the housing and be flushed into the machine when filling. Once rinsed through by the cycle most should be cleared away.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      Hi Shane, Washing powder is formulated differently to dishwasher detergent and also does not have 'rinse aid' properties so is unlikely to wash as well or help the load dry. You should compare the performance of a genuine dishwasher detergent as you should find better results.

    I find the door seal stays clean If I wipe the water out of the bottom of it with a piece of kitchen roll, after taking the clothes out. As you say, leaving the door open a little helps.
    Is there a product that just evicts the bacteria and makes them homeless instead of this senseless slaughter?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +TooSlowTube Good advice about wiping excess moisture after a cycle. Although from a planetary point of view many bacteria may be useful to help break down and decay waste. In the wrong place bacteria can be harmful to health and the well being of your machine. So in this case we would advise to get rid of mould and bacteria as effectively as possible.

    • @sbomorse
      @sbomorse 7 лет назад

      TooSlowTube I never leave my door open or dry my seals, my Samsung is 4 years old now and it's never had any black mould on the seals.

    • @TooSlowTube
      @TooSlowTube 7 лет назад

      Maybe Samsung have built in some ventilation, that a lot of machines lack. I would guess most of them.
      Mine's a Candy. If I don't do either, preferably both, then run my fingers around the bottom part of the door seal, a couple of days after using it, I feel a slippery layer of slime - which is a fungus known as slime mould.
      If it's dry and ventilated, the mould doesn't get a chance to grow. Presumably, the drum on your machine is still ventilated with the door closed.

    what spray did you use

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      At 0:59 we advise to take a sachet of this cleaner and dissolve it in a bottle with warm water. This allows you to spray a concentrated solution onto any 'problem areas' before pouring the remaining liquid into the drawer when you have scrubbed them.

  • @ilovemiele1
    @ilovemiele1 9 лет назад +1

    also you should tell people about the uses of using liquid/gel products. as an engineer i know that not only do they build up inside, and go off/start to stink, they also corrode things such as drum shafts and bearing seals. all i do is I use powder and 60c for everything and my machine (bar a little obvious limescale) is as clean as the day we got it 6 years ago. obviously not everybody will do this so for those people your product is helpful but i think you should make people aware of the gel issue.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  9 лет назад

      ilovemiele1 Thanks for your comments. As most powders contain bleach the combination of using them and a hotter wash will leave the machine with significantly less mould and bacteria. However as many people are concerned about wasting energy so wish to wash cooler and when washing 'non whites' you should use a detergent without bleach to prevent fading colours then even with a powder for colour there is going to be more mould/bacteria. The two most important parts (in our opinion) in tackling this common problem is carrying out a 'service wash' regularly and allowing the machine to dry after use. :-)

    • @ilovemiele1
      @ilovemiele1 9 лет назад

      yes but what i mean is with powder regardless of temperature atleast you wont get the slime that comes off the liquid and smells awful :)

    • @alhambra8310
      @alhambra8310 8 лет назад

      +ilovemiele1 What do you do when the powder doesnt dissolve, even at 40 degrees? We had to stop using it as it was leaving a residue on the clothes

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +alhambra8310 There are a couple of suggestions. First most people put two much powder in the machine as newer machines take less water and so it can easily get saturated with detergent, start by dosing correctly.
      Secondly DO not overload the machine as this prevents the water penetrating the clothes and may cause them to 'filter' the powder rather than allow it to dissolve. And last try other powders and longer washes as on a short cycle it may again not be able to fully dissolve the powder. :-)

    • @alhambra8310
      @alhambra8310 8 лет назад

      +eSpares Thanks, I'll try less powder instead of liquid

    Can you please advise how to remove the build up behind the rubber seal i.e between the drum and the seal? The machine is used almost every day, cleaned once a month and I've carried out all the steps already recommended but the build up inside the rubber seal is extremely difficult to access

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +alhambra8310 Using every day does not allow the machine to dry between cycles. More regular use of a cleaner like the one show will help and make sure you are not using to much detergent. The guide of once a month cleaning is based on two or three washes a week so clean at least once a fortnight leaving the door wide open and you should clear the gunk.

    • @alhambra8310
      @alhambra8310 8 лет назад

      +eSpares Thanks, don't think we could manage with less washes so less powder will have to be the option. Btw, the machine is never closed unless it's running!

    • @eSpares

      Other possible reasons for bacteria build up can be the detergent. Powders that are not marked for colours contain bleach and will help control bacteria. You may find this other video useful:

    men have smelly socks, that causes it,

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      You are partially right there Fiona, smells from socks and other clothing are caused by bacteria and your machine helps wash this and the dirt out of the clothes. However there will always be a small amount left in the machine and if allowed to keep wet and warm can quickly build up causing this problem.
