Tbf german misuse a lot of english words when speaking german. One of the most common ones is “safe”. When they say it they don’t actually mean that something is safe. They mean more like for sure or definitely or 100% or i agree. I have also heard some use “easy” to say “no problem”.

The thing about Bernd das Brot is that he is on the German Kids channel after the regular program has ended at 9pm until 6am, and he keeps asking the viewer to turn off their tv, so he can have his peace and quiet, as he enjoys beeing alone. Every night a different ~15 minute episode just loops.
They did not create the so called nightloop to get kids into bed, they just didn't want to show an image for multiple hours. To get small kids into bed there is specifically the Sandman at 7pm. Anyway, he is not acting boring to get kids to sleep... That's just his character, that was created well before he was used for the nightloop. He got heartbroken by a baguette, pushed into alcoholism by his "friends", who on a regular basis have tortured him and showed him up. The poor guy just has seen too much. It may be though that they explicitly chose him because of his boring, woodchip wallpaper loving personality, but I think they rather picked him because he was already a well known fun figure in german TV.
@peatralsorry, thats just the way i interpreted it when i was younger. i do remember a little of the older show with Briegel dem Busch and Chilli das Schaf. Edited the comment a lil so its more of an accurate report for our friends from across the pond

I think Ludwig severly underestimates how much the gnome and clock were. If the clock wasnt massproduced slop it and was instead made by an actual Schreiner could have easily been the 900€ alone.
