I’m pretty sure it was only loud enough to where yapp could’ve heard it. But it’s very hard to hear but you can softly hear him say “extension” when he was walking around the table
@@TmWarrior12 a time stamp would help. I looked at the video and with headphones I don’t hear anything. I hear the ref or commentator talk about it, but I don’t think that’s Shane’s voice.

In the live feed of the match, Shane looks at the clock with about 18 seconds left, then as he's turning around to walk around to the right side of the table and looks away from the clock, he mumbles "extension" as the clock turns to 17. The microphones seem to pick up noise very easily (as you can hear the annoying background music and balls being hit at other tables)... the fact it didn't pick up Shane's voice almost at all tells me he said it very softly, which also makes me believe Yapp didn't actually hear him and just wanted to get on with the game.

Great job, great video! Thanks...Yapp just won the Predator Michigan 9 ball after this event. He is hands down playing better than anyone in world right now. I can say after this video now knowing what kind of guy he is...I have another player I will be watching.
In the UK we sometimes have a similar issue with players picking the white ball out of the pocket as its falling in. By the letter of the law in blackball rules if you touch any ball it’s a deliberate foul and you hand the frame to your opponent. It’s hard to call it when it happens as it’s not really deliberately trying to foul.
That's right, but if someone does that in a pub league they absolutely WILL lose the frame. At the professional level there's no way SVB should've been allowed to take the shot.
@@nakkadu I agree.. if this was the other way round, yapp would never have been allowed to play on over the the almighty svb.. the last 16 of the us open and your being flexible with the rules?? Come on!!
I think this highlights the fact that the sound beeps and the requirement to speak the word "Extension" violate the Americans with Disabilities Act. Shane cannot hear the beeps. Also, what happens if someone has a speech impediment and cannot speak?
Shane CAN hear the beeps and referees and opponent when he has his hearing aids turned on. He has stated in the past that he likes to turn them off or all the way down when playing a match to effectively tune out all noise distractions.
@Jaime Molina. WHAT? He cannot hear them? I'm sure if he had the volume turned up on his hearing aids he could hear them fine, but he chooses to turn them down to help eliminate noise. That's his choice. Now... if he was TRULY deaf you would certainly have a valid point, 100%. They'd need some sort of visual signal (flashing light visible from all sides of the table?) that would be used only when the deaf person was shooting maybe. For someone who can't speak, I"m sure they would agree to have some sort of signal (football timeout style) to accommodate such. But I think you're going a little far accusing them of violating ADA act, for sure.
not really.... he can hear... if he chooses to... he already has a slightly unfair advantage with the hearingaid. Been debated to death. But the matter is that he chooses to turn it off. So honestly its his fault. He doesnt say it. at all.... clear as day on the video and slowmotion replay.
Having briefly chatted with Aloysius Yapp a couple times, I concur that he is a genuinely good guy and trust me when I say that he has been around a long time already and been a professional player for longer than people realise. He was playing against and beating the conkers off pro players since he was in his early teens and had already been playing pro tournaments by the time he was 15 years old, but he had to stop competing for a few years to complete his national service duties and it wasn't long before he was back to playing again after his service time had finished. This not only shows that the best players in the world are human and not robots, but that a little bit of genuine respect and true sportsmanship can go a very long way and it's easy to see that both these players have huge respect for each other as fellow players and giants of the sport.
If you have an extension remaining, it should automatically be activated if the clock hits 0. If you don't have an extension and the clock hits 0, it should be a foul. The rule should be changed.
They also need to decide when that next shot clock starts. It should be after any referee officiating, and a player inning change occurs. For a player continuing to shoot, it should trigger after the balls stop moving on each shot, UNLESS there is a referee statement being made. And since this is all about moving a televised game forward, it should be auto-triggered, and there should be two per game, not just one.
Shane didn’t say it, he thought he did but didn’t look like it, having said that he’s no cheat so just one of them things…… yapp handled it well many a player would of argued lol 👏
Correct me if I’m wrong but don’t most tournaments like that allow the shooter to shoot when the time clock expires as long as he/she doesn’t raise up from their shot, Shane was already lined up and about to shoot when the ref interrupted the shot
I love Shane, but he didn't say it... A foul is a foul, even if your opponent doesn't want it enforced. I do however think that if you have an extension available, it should automatically activate when the clock hits zero. I think all players involved would agree that they'd prefer that over taking a foul.
@@michaeltrumph121 he clearly didn't say the words at all... Are we going to start granting time extensions every time a player thinks to himself "time extension"? That kind of falls in line with my suggestion, if your extension hasn't be used, it is automatically burned if you run out of time without calling it.
@@Dillon000 I followed your instructions... Turn my volume all the way up and put the speaker against my ear... Nothing. Not only could I not hear it, his mouth never moved. I'm a big fan of Shane, and I think that he thought he said it out loud but he actually said it in his head. He didn't say it. And his opponent certainly didn't hear it.
The whole shot clock thing in pool is stupid along with that annoying buzzer while your time is running out. It goes off on almost every shot. I would love to see this applied to golf when your supposed to be quiet during their backswing. How about an allotted time bank for each player and each game and then the buzzer when the time bank has expired? Some shots just take longer than others.
This Aloysius guy may become my favorite non American player, hes is amazing rn and he 100% knew shane wanted the extension and lied to help hurry it up. Thats good sportsmanship even though the rule is he has to say it Yapp wouldve given it to him. Alot of players wouldnt have
Shot clocks are lame and Yapp is in that camp as well. He does not like them either. SVB has a hearing problem and should get an extension automatically if they do not provide a visual countdown clock to place in his view on each shot. Shot clocks have nothing to do with the games of pocket billiards and the only reason they exist is to move televised games forward at a faster pace. Yapp would have taken ball in hand and handed it right back to Shane. You should have kept *your* mouth shut.
Like Rollie mentions, he turns his aids down while playing, some feel that gives him a advantage, in this case it did not, it was a disadvantage. I can see that if he was completely deaf, and no hearing aid would help him that they would give him a pass, but the fact he turns them down so he won’t be distracted means that this was his fault. I mean he did motion to the timekeeper, but it was clear he didn’t say anything. I could go either way on this one.
Well that was a funny situation. Yapp didn't want a victory over Shane to be tarnished by a time foul. What a cool dude. I wonder what Shane was thinking at the time and afterwards, when he realised he didn't call for an extension. I bet his respect for Yapp is Sky High now.
Yeah, I actually called a foul on myself, by calling a ball frozen before the shot, where it woulda been a good hit, and probably was anyway, it's not my responsibility to call a ball frozen! Anyways, I lost the match hill hill, but I bobbled the 10- ball, I didn't deserve to win..
As an American, I completely agree. Class in this country has gone out the window, especially with half the country still thinking the hog president we just got thru with is still the president.
SVB is not the type to push boundaries, he is a good sport that lets his actions on the table do his talking. The players handled this like true professionals
As a half deaf person, when you want to signal someone, a look can also mean yes, (extention) even if they dont verbally say it. Idk the specific rule on announcing an extention, but his look should have been tooken as a signal. Maybe the refs didnt know he’s deaf. But i think that should be taken into consideration of players with disabilities or impairments.
Agreed....... but for what it is worth, the word "extension" can be vocalized without moving your lips or very little. The video was not conclusive! Shane's character, along with Aloysius confirming should have been enough. And Aloysius does deserve tons of applause for his show of honesty and character.
It should be authomatic, what's the point of this explicit extension ritual? Is there any case when you wound't take it? Well, just foul intentionallly and you're good.
aloysius yapp is great....he gave a chance to shane to play at the table even shane did not say something an extension to give him an extra time to think for his plan about his game.... that is a great sportsmanship there.....☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
In the last mosconi cup there was a foul because of Skyler Woodward who played a push out without saying it. I think we should be consistent with the rules, because why Shane could play again here and Skylar haven't got the same chance while obviously he had push shot in mind? I mean, it is really cruel, but if he didn't said it - it is his fault no matter how much we like SvB. Nevetheless, great match and really great sportsmenship from Yapp. I really would like to see Yapp playing more often on that level.
Shane looks like he didn't state it but he has a hearing issue and this might be due to that. But Aloysius showed great character in just stopping the show and just trying to give Shane the extension he certainly meant to request. Very nice character from Aloysius. He will be one of the greats.
If Shane couldn't hear the beeps then he must have had his hearing aids turned off, so he couldn't hear himself say 'extension' but must have assumed it was audible for others
Hey, pool is all about the fun and sportsmanship. Mad respect for Yapp. The BF of Aina Silviana from Indonesia (pro pool athlete) is def a sigma for it.
I would like to know how Mica did. I was watching one of his matches where he missed a shot and was so upset. I did not see who he was playing. But every time I checked back on table two mica was sitting in his chair. Who did he play? How did he finish in that match?
I agree with your comment about not having to be a robot. The way I see it, if there’s opponent said it was fine then by default, then his opponent should have the final say.
I heard him think it. I did, really... but I can read minds, even when recorded. :-) He should have been given the extension because he did not hear the warning tones. For that reason alone. For SVB, on timed shot games, he should get a light flashing the last five seconds. They should put a strobe over all tables for timed shot matches/games that flashes the last five seconds unless the player calls for it to be off at the start of his shot. He would have to say "No Flash" as he approaches the table. It has to be each shot as well, because SVB does need the flash. So there would have to be a toggle at the time keeper's station. Friggin' shot clock.
@@billpii6314 "Hearing impaired" is all one needs to say, and all the timekeepers know who the players are. Since it is about TV time and not really about pool exceptions should be made. They should never cry about long shot intervals. One does not see such "hurry along now" behavior in other sports that isn't part of the game.
Just sharing my thoughts… The referees taking time to assess the foul thru the recordings should have been the procedure followed to have a fair, technical-based result, however Mr. Yapp suddenly joining the discussion made it more confusing. Yes, it was humble of Yapp to mention he heard the “extension” even if the referee is closer than him during that time. Rules were approved and applied in order for each players, be called fairly if such situations happen. e.i The serve or shot can be challenged against the umpire thru the video recording if indeed in or out the court. Cheers ya’ll!!! Go SVB!!!
The commentary over this video is priceless! Nervous guy in the background was biting nails hard. !EDIT! Also I posted this way too early cause that comment on Shane's hearing impairment being such an advantage had me on the ground.
Yapp says play it !! I think it’s possible he is aware of Shane’s hearing and didn’t want to take any cheap fouls related to that. I think most REAL competitors wouldn’t want any unfair advantage.
Doesn't really matter. Shot clocks are there to keep the games short, so they can be fit into television time. They don't improve the game, they take away from it.
So I agree turning off the hearing aids is a silly gripe. HOWEVER, I’m a little torn on him doing so when that means he also can’t hear the referee. He could have shot before the ref had a chance to get his attention. What kind of mess would it have been then? Regardless, Aloysius went for the king and didn’t miss. Hats off to that guy!
as someone with a hearing impairment (not as bad as Shane's), it can also add to speaking problems, like thinking u said something when u didn't. it's because u can't hear yourself very well. kind of confusing to people without hearing problems, but it happens
Having personally listened to Shane speak for years and watching every match he has played that is searchable, I can tell you he pronounce extension as “stenchun” and it can be said easily without moving your lips. Also as everyone has pointed out, he is def which creates a situation where you may not know your tonal volume. Think of someone with headphones on and getting too loud in reverse. Growing up he had to learn by vibration to gauge his volume with adults telling him he is too loud.
I’m no ventriloquist, but I can easily say “extension” without moving my lips at all. All the sounds come from the tongue inside the mouth. Try clenching your jaw shut and holding it tight, then purse your lips with just a tiny gap between them. Easy. I’m not going to try and yell it at the top of my voice with clenched jaw, because I think exceeding 127 dBA would seriously disturb my wife upstairs at the moment, but I’m pretty confident I could do that, too. I’m sorry that I can’t be more exact with the sound pressure level, but my meter tops out at 127 dBA, so I don’t really know exactly how loud I can go.
Look more closely...Shane's lips moved and it looked like he said extension...that was when he was just shy of the corner pocket...as far as the referees go....when the opponent confirms it, it should have become a moot point
Yapp really did just want to play some pool with Shane. After breaking and running 5 games in a row I'm sure Yapp just wanted to get back to the table while he is hot. Plus, he's a cool guy. Shane didn't seem sore to lose this match like he usually is.
I think the problem is Shane's impairments. His hearing and probably the way he speaks it's very possible that he made a mistake. I get the rules are rules, but they should be a little more accommodating in this case. Shane is a top level player who does have impairments that shouldn't have anything to limit his game. I mean, the fact that he literally can't even hear the warning beeps from the clock or the referee telling him foul foul is indicative enough.
What a classy guy this Aloysius is. Many others would've stayed out of it and let the referees keep it as a foul. Though I agree rules are rules. But for God sake he looked at the time keeper and nodded. It would've been sad to call a foul on his first shot, down 5-0, and after 26 minutes of idle during Aloysius's 5-frame run. Regardless, Karma proved itself again. He mustered 2 balls, then stopped. Karma, sweet Karma.

I understand your point, but there are big time world class tournaments that operate as i mentioned. I think derby city or international 9 ball
Yeah for sure Shane never called it. I don’t think he should have penalized. He didn’t even hear the audible tones. You’d think he would have gotten back up and made sure they heard him say his extension. Even when the ref was calling his name, he didn’t hear.
If you listen to the audio you can hear him call it and it wasn’t when he was looking at the time keeper. I can try and go back to it and find a time stamp but I heard it and it was very very quiet.
@@shortydancer agreed. I just can't hear it. If he did say it, he said it without moving his lips. I think it was just a mistake, that's all.
Emily Frazer, the MD of Matchroom Pool, called both players outside & when they came back the referee allowed SVB to continue. I think that Emily asked Yapp if he’s ok for SVB to carry on, Yapp has said yes & Emily has overruled the ref & told him to give SVB his 30 second extension.
Yapp is a class act and a monster on the table. Really cool....and yeah every player that knows Shane knows he's also a class act and wouldn't try and cheat, especially not on an extension.
“Buddy just play some pool” five of the coolest words ever!
Rollie, can you PLEASE do the “Road to the US Open” series again since they canceled it last year? That would be amazing.
This is the mark of true sportsmanship and love of the game, this man (both) are worthy.
Well, Shane just has shown that he isnt worthy by not telling that kid that he shoots the wrong ball.
great respect for this, it was a clear mistake by shane he didn’t call it we’re all human, it’s also clear he wanted the extension, refs were just doing their job of calling foul play, but again real sportsmanship from yapp what a true player
This right here makes me a Yapp fan. What a TOP CLASS move.
Shut your yapp
goodness gracious these videos just keep getting better
Terrific report dude. Really cool fast but not too fast. Jokes not corny. I really enjoyed seeing this new video from you.
Great job, great video! Thanks...Yapp just won the Predator Michigan 9 ball after this event. He is hands down playing better than anyone in world right now. I can say after this video now knowing what kind of guy he is...I have another player I will be watching.
Who 😂😂
In the UK we sometimes have a similar issue with players picking the white ball out of the pocket as its falling in.
Come on!!
I don’t think I’ve ever been so impressed by any player of any sport in terms of sportsmanship as yapp with that statement. What a champ
Yapp earned huge points in my book from this match. Him and Kaci are gonna be atop the pool world for a long time
Gotta love Yapp. He knew Shane wanted the extension, we saw his movements and he took his time after “calling” it
I think this highlights the fact that the sound beeps and the requirement to speak the word "Extension" violate the Americans with Disabilities Act. Shane cannot hear the beeps. Also, what happens if someone has a speech impediment and cannot speak?
Very valid point! Thank you.
Shane CAN hear the beeps and referees and opponent when he has his hearing aids turned on. He has stated in the past that he likes to turn them off or all the way down when playing a match to effectively tune out all noise distractions.
As far as I know, they can also see the shot clock on a screen, so it's not just auditory
As a Singaporean, I'm proud of my fellow Singaporean friend
If you have an extension remaining, it should automatically be activated if the clock hits 0. If you don't have an extension and the clock hits 0, it should be a foul. The rule should be changed.
They also need to decide when that next shot clock starts. It should be after any referee officiating, and a player inning change occurs. For a player continuing to shoot, it should trigger after the balls stop moving on each shot, UNLESS there is a referee statement being made. And since this is all about moving a televised game forward, it should be auto-triggered, and there should be two per game, not just one.
What an incredible act of sportsmanship!!!! Never heard of this guy till now, but I'm now on Team Yapp & I hope he wins every tournament.
Holy Guacamoto, Batman!
Hats off to Yapp, great display of sportsmanship.
I love Shane, but he didn't say it... A foul is a foul, even if your opponent doesn't want it enforced. I do however think that if you have an extension available, it should automatically activate when the clock hits zero. I think all players involved would agree that they'd prefer that over taking a foul.
It's a stupid rule. You can clearly see he wanted one as he looked at the referee. So he should have one, regardless of how hard he said the word.
@@michaeltrumph121 he clearly didn't say the words at all... Are we going to start granting time extensions every time a player thinks to himself "time extension"? That kind of falls in line with my suggestion, if your extension hasn't be used, it is automatically burned if you run out of time without calling it.
He actually did say it, I can hear it, BUT it is extremely low
ruclips.net/video/4x2fsNutvls/видео.html go to 31:00 mark in the video, keep replaying till you hear it. He says extension
👍👍 to yapp for being a good sportsman. I would have done the same and love the challenge of a legend!
It would have been funny if yapp had to deliberate foul to resolve the situation. Then shane 3 fouled him
I got to meet Rollie at the US open. Really cool guy who chatted with me for a bit.
I think players should be able to call extension just by raising a hand. It would be quicker and less of an interruption and everyone can see it.
Respect for Yapp.
This Aloysius guy may become my favorite non American player, hes is amazing rn and he 100% knew shane wanted the extension and lied to help hurry it up. Thats good sportsmanship even though the rule is he has to say it Yapp wouldve given it to him. Alot of players wouldnt have
Shane didn't say it.
Yapp couldn't have heard it.
Refs should've given Yapp a ball in hand and Yapp should've kept his mouth shut.
Doesnt look great for SVB intention aside, I cant remember once I thought I said something but didnt over a
Like Rollie mentions, he turns his aids down while playing, some feel that gives him a advantage, in this case it did not, it was a disadvantage. I can see that if he was completely deaf, and no hearing aid would help him that they would give him a pass, but the fact he turns them down so he won’t be distracted means that this was his fault.
I mean he did motion to the timekeeper, but it was clear he didn’t say anything. I could go either way on this one.
@@jrw0707 as long as the opponent agrees, he did say in an interview, he woulda just tapped the cue ball, kudos!
Classy, classy move from Yapp, and a good decision made by the officials in the end. I enjoyed this whole situation.
That should be a US Open slogan, "Just play some pool"
I'm sure Shane thought he did but he definitely Did Not call it. Yapp appears to be a standup guy and didn't mind if Shane continued shooting.
This was the match where I said man this Aloysius Yapp is a total class act. 🙌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
4.20 “This guy” me, the host of the tournament was just concerned 🤣🤣🤣
Respect for yapp is 1000 rn. Shane never said it but yapp wanted to help him out and just play some pool. That's character right there
A possible way to solve this is:
If you have your extension, i.e., haven't used it yet, it gets applied automatically if time runs out.
Good video. Thanks.
Who gives this a thumbs down? What did they think they were going to see?
🤔
This is what separates the best in the world and US players.
As an American, I completely agree. Class in this country has gone out the window, especially with half the country still thinking the hog president we just got thru with is still the president.
SVB is not the type to push boundaries, he is a good sport that lets his actions on the table do his talking. The players handled this like true professionals
A good sport would have told that kid that hes playing the wrong ball....
What's a yap? - Dennis the Menace
It's what kept running through my mind every time he said his name 😁
Any other player wouldn't have had Shanes back like that, MAYBE Strickland but anyone else likely not. Awesome move by Yapp
Kudos to the referee. A foul is a foul in a professional game
But ref didnt give him foul tho
@@joulupukki1607 the tournament director overturned the call after asking Yapp if he is OK with it.
@@RichardsWorld yes true but op cant say "kudos to ref" when he failed🤷♂️
Hes lucky he wasnt playing against the Pearl!!!
It should be authomatic, what's the point of this explicit extension ritual? Is there any case when you wound't take it? Well, just foul intentionallly and you're good.
aloysius yapp is great....he gave a chance to shane to play at the table even shane did not say something an extension to give him an extra time to think for his plan about his game.... that is a great sportsmanship there.....☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
3:25 that's my guy from now on
Just go to the Derby rules. If you go over it automatically adds it. Simple.
Yapp just won the michigan Open championship after this :)
@@csbro7045 I was so confused watching the finals of the US Open, because I wanted them both to win :D
Hand Signal should be introduced to avoid such incidents in future.
Just a thought.
Great job Rollie,!
Hey I thought you were going to be playing in the U.S. Open? What happened to that dream
Shane looks like he didn't state it but he has a hearing issue and this might be due to that. But Aloysius showed great character in just stopping the show and just trying to give Shane the extension he certainly meant to request. Very nice character from Aloysius. He will be one of the greats.
If everyone was mature as Yapp, the world would be a better place.
great big daddy move from Yapp. great sportmanship in a big match
Is there a clip of the post match interview? I can't find it anywhere?
Are you going to do one on the Jeremy Jones time foul?
I would like to know how Mica did. I was watching one of his matches where he missed a shot and was so upset. I did not see who he was playing. But every time I checked back on table two mica was sitting in his chair. Who did he play? How did he finish in that match?
Ok I like Yapp already. Class act 🙌🏼
Awesome commentary..!
I agree with your comment about not having to be a robot. The way I see it, if there’s opponent said it was fine then by default, then his opponent should have the final say.
Just changed the rule. Don't say the word extension, just physically lift up your hand to acknowledge you want an extension.
Yapp has strong character
I heard him think it. I did, really... but I can read minds, even when recorded. :-)
He should have been given the extension because he did not hear the warning tones.
Good point about him not being able to hear the warning. But he is the one that turned off his hearing aid
@@billpii6314 "Hearing impaired" is all one needs to say, and all the timekeepers know who the players are. Since it is about TV time and not really about pool exceptions should be made. Actually the players should all demand that the stupid shit be removed from all the leagues and TV time producer mindsets. This ain't broadcast TV with commercial breaks any more. They should never cry about long shot intervals.
One does not see such "hurry along now" behavior in other sports that isn't part of the game.
Just sharing my thoughts…
The referees taking time to assess the foul thru the recordings should have been the procedure followed to have a fair, technical-based result, however Mr.
Go SVB!!!
Great video. Thank you good job
The commentary over this video is priceless! Nervous guy in the background was biting nails hard. !EDIT! Also I posted this way too early cause that comment on Shane's hearing impairment being such an advantage had me on the ground.
Good sportsmanship! Love it!
Yapp commented he would have poked the cue ball a mm and gave it back to him. Yapp is my favorite player right now.
Yapp says play it !! I think it’s possible he is aware of Shane’s hearing and didn’t want to take any cheap fouls related to that. I think most REAL competitors wouldn’t want any unfair advantage.
Abraço a todos sou do Brasil sinuca tá evoluindo muito ❤️
Aloysius said he would have fouled intentionally and made Shane shoot it from where it lies if it wasn’t overturned. Very cool guy
Much respect to Aloysius. 👏👏👏
Aloysius Yapp you are a gentleman. Not sure if the same thing happens when Shane is against Albin Ouschan.
as someone with a hearing impairment (not as bad as Shane's), it can also add to speaking problems, like thinking u said something when u didn't. it's because u can't hear yourself very well. kind of confusing to people without hearing problems, but it happens
I disagree with a lot here. No, he did not call extension and he should be penalized. That is the RULE. Period.
Look more closely...Shane's lips moved and it looked like he said extension...that was when he was just shy of the corner pocket...as far as the referees go....when the opponent confirms it, it should have become a moot point
no he did not say it. you can play it at highest res and slow it down to 25%. his mouth never moved nor open.
No
Yapp really did just want to play some pool with Shane.
