Today was a tough day for my elderly parents. I planned ahead on their behalf and made a half batch of these last night, to use tonight. I hadn't made them before and since we have had some mixed results with bean burgers I didn't make a full recipe. I want to let you know that we all loved them! It was just what we needed. I will be making and freezing them and anticipating enjoying them in the future.Thank you from this plant based family. My mom was smiling!
Gabriel - I'm using your Black Bean burger recipe (Easy 3-2-1 Burgers) frequently - and love it! I'll try this one too. Hint - try the Sam's Choice Cuban Style Mustard on your burgers...it kicks it up a notch! You can get it at Walmart. I'm a big fan of spicy mustard, but this Sam's stuff is the bomb!
These were so good!! I like my food spicy so I added an extra tbs of crushed red pepper flakes. Also added 2 tsp liquid smoke! They were perfect!!! *chef's kiss*
I'm in Indiana, too!! I love your bean burger sliders and I've made them many times. I'm sure these will be favorites as well! I'll add a big slab of a Vadallia onion, too!
I will be making both these porkless burgers and your regular bean burgers. Need to get some vital wheat gluten first and more canned beans. I can't wait to give it a try. My mouth was watering when you were cooking these! Thank you.
Which is the best pork burger...this recipe or the other one you posted? I am confused as to which one to try. Is the only difference the omission of vital wheat gluten? Ty Gabriel. :)
I love this recipe it looks amazing!! Could I use quinoa if I don’t have brown rice? Or can I use both? I’m trying to find a way to get more quinoa into my kids as well. Thank you for another great recipe.
Hi, Gabriel! I'm sure the answer is probably no, but is there a good substitute for black beans for this recipe? I'm sure they're a key ingredient, but black beans and my stomach just don't get along. :)
Hi, just discover your youtube/Facebook, and I'm loving it :) but as Portuguese there are somethings that I don't know and I'm here asking for help :) I want to ask what is quick cookin oats and vital wheat glúten? Thank you in advance
Hey Claudie, I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying the videos. The quick cooking oats are just normal rolled oats that have been broken into smaller pieces so that they cook and soften quicker. You can always substitute normal oats in the recipe. And vital wheat gluten is a flour made up of the protein rich part of wheat flour. It adds some strength to the recipe. But if it is not available you can always use oat flour as a good substitute.
Gabriel, I plan to make these this week (Aug 11)! Love your method of freezing before grilling! VWG seems to respond well for increased texture after freezing. I have froze my “brisket” recipe after baking which is all VWG and it really matters to the mouth feel. Have you ever made this recipe with the addition of fennel seeds to get that Italian pork sausage flavor? Also, please confirm that the written recipe is accurate with 1 tbsp of crushed red pepper flakes is the correct amount as it seems like a lot of pepper flakes but maybe that’s what’s needed to achieve the taste.
Hey Linda! The recipe is correct with the 1 tbs of red pepper flakes. If you are making these for someone who is a little spice averse or for small children I would recommend using 1/2 tbs. And I have not used fennel, mostly due to the fact that it is the one spice that I have never really liked ever since I can remember. haha
What kind of burger buns do you use? I just make bread in my bread machine and use that for the bun. I have always used Jeff Novick's burger recipes. It's very similar to yours, except he doesn't use wheat gluten which I think is brilliant. Looking forward to giving your burgers a try.
Paul Stepp it is the binder that keeps the burgers together and gives them that burger texture off the grill. If you want a gluten free option you can always add oat flour.
Hey Gabriel! Greetings from Chesterfield =) I plan to try these (and your black bean burgers!) soon. I wanted to know where you got the guard for the top of your mixer. Thanks!
It is great to hear from a local! This is the guard that I bought off of amazon and then it out so that it would work with my mixing attachments for the kitchenaid. www.amazon.com/KitchenAid-KBC90N-2-Pack-Covers-Tilt-Head/dp/B00004SGFA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1532986310&sr=8-3&keywords=kitchenaid+mixer+bowl+cover

Walmart I just ordered my patty presses! Can't wait to make these! Great job Gabriel and thanks for being out there!

This looks really good
Thank you Robin!
Gabe, can these be done in the oven? And if so what temp and how long?

Can these be baked or air fried? If so, could you give the temperature and time please.
Hi, is there subsitutes for wheat gluten? I notice a lot of recipes call for it. I am not allowed to have due to being allergic
Hey Nicolle, for all of my bean burgers you can substitute oat flour for the wheat gluten.
LOVE THIS! Ty!
You are very welcome Laura!
Where did you find that lid?
Does the kitchenaid mixer work better than a food processor? I don't have a mixer.
I find that the kitchenaid does work better, but the food processor works great too!
I love this recipe it looks amazing!! Could I use quinoa if I don’t have brown rice? Or can I use both? I’m trying to find a way to get more quinoa into my kids as well. Thank you for another great recipe.
Yes you definitely can! You can use it as a complete substitute or 1/2 rice 1/2 quinoa.
Hi, Gabriel! I'm sure the answer is probably no, but is there a good substitute for black beans for this recipe? I'm sure they're a key ingredient, but black beans and my stomach just don't get along. :)
Really any beans would be able to work as a substitute. You could sub in some white beans or even chick peas if you'd like.

Hi, Is there a substitute for the vital wheat gluten, can’t find it down here. Thanks for sharing
Hey Maritza! I recommend using oat flour as a gluten free substitute in the burgers. ruclips.net/video/R63wY_Z8MJU/видео.html
I’d like to bake them. Any tips on oven temperature and for how long?

Hey Robert, I do not have the package for these right. But they were vegan whole wheat buns that we had purchased from Aldis.

Hey Mike. I do not use a specific bun. We try to get ones that have the least ingredients, lowest fat and that are vegan.
What roll does the vital wheet gluten play?
