- As American power and population grew in the 19th century, the United States gradually rejected the main principle of treaty-making-that tribes were self-governing nations-and initiated policies that undermined tribal sovereignty. For Indian nations, these policies resulted in broken treaties, vast land loss, removal and relocation, population decline, and cultural decimation.
The "Indian Problem" was produced to serve as the central video in the exhibition "Nation to Nation: Treaties Between the United States and American Indian Nations," on view at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. This video introduces visitors to the section of the exhibition titled "Bad Acts, Bad Paper."

I greet my Amerindian friends, I live in the south-east of France and after watching a last western at the age of 14 I began to learn the truth about the Amerindians, and since I spend all the free time writing about what I learned when I went to visit the United States several times, now I am not far from 80 years old I always keep this rage in my heart to help the Amerindians to regain their pride and their dignities.

I find it odd that land thoughout the world shifted in time through wars and surrender from empire to empire. In the states this seems to be tragic and theft. It was not a country. No codified laws, no cohesion, Stone Age cultures living in a state of war. Europeans brought the modern era to this continent and the first countries. Auto Didact I think what they were getting after when saying “country land” was the Midwest and southern country and fields, but I think that’s stretching it.
