    Bro none of you noticed Ri Chong Song (PRK North Korean lifter) was wearing red asics rather than the North Korean blue asics, they finally have another pair of shoes!

    That deadlift was impressive, there's no doubt. But sumo and standard deadlift should be kept as separate categories. The same person can lift more in sumo than standard. Go try it. Lower range of motion.

    Most impressive thing about Olivia Reeves performance for me is the fact that she set 7 Junior World Records during that competition. Can‘t imagine what it takes mentally to stay focused when you just crushed a WR and are about to do it again.

    The inflation in weights in the news show is insane, when you lads first started this series a 400+kg deadlift would be a title worthy lift, you have 5 in this show alone.

  • @snoopyflick9519
    @snoopyflick9519 9 месяцев назад +26

    Reeves squatted 210, beltless, sleeveless last year at 19
    She's was always in contention for an Olympic spot this cycle, but recently she really exploded and surpassed Kate Viberts numbers. She's also been part of Olympic training centers camps since 13.
    So not out of no where, but this last 5% in her lifts has been pretty shocking.
    Also question with the wide squat grips, is part of it also to manage the whip on these 300+ kg squats?

    I think the thing people mean with sumo not being impressive isn't like a "oh I could do that", I think it's something closer too it just not seeming like its a big deal because the weight barely moved. You could show that 505kg deadlift to a non lifter and they'll just be confused, then if you show it to a seasoned lifter (unless they're a powerlifter that pulls sumo) they're just going to know that sumo pulls are easier and for some people by a huge margin so they're more inclined to be less impressed because they're familiar with the nuance.
    Yes 505kg is a staggering amount of weight that I probably couldn't even support if you put it on my back but sumo really just looks silly and realistically doesn't reeaallyy transfer into making you a more useful/well rounded human. Sure, some people just want medals and that's chill, go workout how to win deadlifting 15000kg by locking out with just bar bend alone idc, just don't expect many people to care ya know.

    My problem with all these 505 attempts is not that they're not impressive. They clearly are or like you said we'd see more of them. My issue is the choice of 505, as it clearly begs for comparison to the strongman record which is just a completely different lift. If we see 500kg attempted I'm all for it because that's a more objective milestone.
