Even if it is not canon, I feel that romance fits most into the story. Cullen's has a lot of sweet moments, for male Inquisitors Cassandra is amazing, etc., every romance has some great moments, but Solas' both tragic and gives a lot of insight into the struggles of a character whom we will most likely meet as a true villain next time. Also I think it shows a lot from the Inquisitors motivations and strength how she handles this situation. So I consider my Solas romance playthrough my "canon" as well.
My heart wrenches every time he walks away from her, it's so sad! Especially after what the devs have said--that he loves Lavellan so much he's always one breath away from revealing everything.
I also heard that at the part where he takes off your vallaslin when he says '' The best gift I can offer.. is the truth '' that at that part he was actually going to tell you everything.. who he is etc. but then he just can't do that and makes up the vallaslin part..
