    Suggest a must have is a torque wrench. You should check your 4WD and van wheel nuts on a regular basis, especially after corrugated roads. People using a simple wheel brace tend to over tighten and damage the threads. Torque wrenches ensure you tighten your wheel nuts correctly to the van / 4WD manufacturers setting I.e The correct torque setting. Some people a scared off using a torque wrench believing them to be too technical but they are easy to use. If you are not sure there are plenty of good how to use RUclips videos out there.

    Great videos guys, servicing a need for many who need this sort of info....Just a couple of things that I do is at the uncoupling stage, make sure the LAST thing thats done is to detatch the Breakaway system lanyard for obvious reasons....if your van tries to reject you and run away , the brake system will deploy and ruin its day....and secondly re free camp van security, mine is a DO35 hitch so I have knocked out the rowel pin from the big nut on the end of the coupling....I can then unthread the nut, slide the coupling shaft out, put in the car, bring the chains up over the hitch area and lock them up with a decent lock so there is nothing there for someone to hook up to EASILY.....Only takes 5 mins to reinsert the shaft later, thread the nut back on, and drop a large split pin thru the hole so the nut cant vibrate off (and pin easily removed for next time).....works for me.....Cheers

    If you are going to travel remote & alone I recommend an advanced first aid course which gives you training over & above the standard course especially useful when help could take a long time to arrive.
    With regard to van safety, if you can padlock your safety chains so they cannot be used it is handy because even if you have an unusual coupling, some thieves will use your safety chains to attach your trailer to their vehicle.
    The powder in powder extinguishers will compact over time if left in the same position all the time so ocasionally rotate the extinguisher several times to loosen the powder so the extinguisher will be more likely to work when you need it.
    If you are polite to truckies when you are on the road you can either call them to overtake you when it is safe if you are slower than the truck.
    When it is raining & you wish to overtake a truck, ask the driver to call you around when it is safe because you probably will be unable to see around him because of the water spraying from his tyres. Remember, truckies are professionals & family people & they wish to get home safely to their families.
    I have made a policy of allowing other drivers to overtake when it is safe to do so because that way I get to choose when they do overtake keping me & my family safe.

    i think you need to do a more detailed segment on smoke alarms, carbon monoxide and LPG leak detectors. All 3 are different and have to be mounted at 3 different heights. Unless you are using a hand held LPG leak detector with your finger on the button it will not send out an alarm, therefore this will not work whie you are sleeping. You cannot buy a plug-in type in Australia for Australian standards, they have to be hard wired here and need to be wired in to the battery system as well for off-grid camping. These also have to be fitted within 30cm of the floor and not more than 2mtrs from the appliance. I know you can buy a gas safety valve for your gas bottle but this is just an added insurance. The Carbon-monoxide detector will not detect LPG. This needs to be fitted high on the wall with the smoke alarm on the ceiling. There are a lot of people out there that don't know this and could benefit from the knowledge. Just a suggestion is all.

    Hi guys. Love watching your episodes, the best ones online. We’d like to ask a question about free camping and how that might go with a caravan that’s not as up-to-date as yours, that is a caravan without an ensuite. In your recent question-and-answer episode you discussed a grey water tank that is separate. Would this work for say an outdoor shower with a pump. Trying to work out if something like this is going to cause issues for us and are we going to be locked into nothing more than caravan parks. Figure that as you’ve been to all the states you could be the best ones to ask. We are aware each state has different rules and regulations but it’s very difficult trying to work out exactly what is what hope you can help. Thank you.

    • @TheFeelGoodFamily
      @TheFeelGoodFamily  2 года назад

      Hey Phil, firstly only a few free camps do you need to catch your water, very small percentage at this stage! Yes to investing in a portable shower kit (quite a few different kinds out there) and you could also look at a 20litre portable toilet (under $200). A large percentage of free camps have drop toilets that are regularly maintained on most states. Always have toilet paper 😉👍 hope this helped!
