I bought both her 12 inch remixes of Seduction and If you Should Ever Be Lonely when they came out. I was a gay white boy in Columbus Ohio who loved R & B and music literally saved my life. I became a dancer and moved to Los Angeles and ended up dancing for Gladys Knight on Soul Train and Arsenio Hall when she went solo and released Men. I heard someone singing backstage at Soul Train and I thought it was a radio. I walked down the hall and it was Stevie Wonder jamming in his dressing room. I just stood there in awe and shock.. What a day that was for me. I was like 22 years old. If you can find the performance online I'm dancing with Lavelle who was a Michael Jackson Dancer and choreographer.

I love her voice and the reason why I came here is to get the know a little bit about the person who sang hooks on songs for 2 pac.Her voice is soft but at the same time raspy.

Val Young - absolutely talented. from the days of George Clinton to the Gap Band then withe MJG and then solo. The both albums released under the Berry Gordy label says its all. Different from the normal Motown labels (Blue and White). Berry Gordy knew this was rare talent. Love both her albums, especially "If you should ever be Lonely" maxi. Another great track in maxi version would have been "Waitin for You", however, i don't think this came out as a maxi single. her new stuff with Tupac, Napolean, etc. sound very good. Stunning voice. simply AWESOME. My best female artist.

What Val Young said is true. She was a part of the original Mary Jane Girls because the 'Mary Jane Girls' were Rick's backup singers before they were officially the Mary Jane Girls group. Val was part of that and she did everything except become an official member of MJG when they started releasing albums and touring. But what Val is 100% true

I live in Scotland, UK & first heard Rick James via The Radio & it was The Sound of them I 'liked' as I never saw him or any of his 'related acts'till much later.
'Brotherhood' or in this case the Sisterly version, hmm ?
My Dad said he'd been In America & that notion was all a load of bollox & this nonsense sadly proves that.
It's all rather pathetic really so I will just put my head back to the '70's & '80's, if that's alright, to a pre-internet time when all I judged music by [apart from the cover lol] was how it felt coming out of the Record Players Speakers.
Please STOP 'trying' to re-write history ms.Young, that's all !

@@IAMTALLBOYYes, one of my very first concerts was seeing RICK JAMES in 1981. I never missed a chance to see RICK and his camp on tour.
I saw him several times after he was released from prison in 1996 and was also very fortunate to meet him at the HOUSE OF BLUES here in Los Angeles. RICK was very cool, I bought him a couple of drinks and he invited me up to the Foundation room to smoke some trees.
I'll never forget it and still have photos on my desk today. When I heard he passed in 2004 I was broken. It was one of the worst days of my life , and I just had to call in sick to attend his funeral. ✌🏾😎

Val needs to stick with HER music she released two albums in the 80's her debut was in 85 RJ was pretty much through with MJG they were on their last album together. Val lasted until 87 then she went on to collaborate with death row artist in the 90's.

      LOL !
U only need to hear ONE MILLISECOND of Bowie, Prince, JB, Chaka, bb King etc to KNOW it IS them 4fs !
They call what your attempting hear as 'Spin' in the UK & therefor that'd make you A Spin Doctor making excuses for Val Young sounding NOTHING LIKE = THE Mary Jane Girls....

ERR dunno 'bout The Mary Jane Girls thing myself ???
I thought their records were originally gonna be a solo for that Jojo gal [Joanne McDuffie], until Motown 'asked' him about his 'new girl group' ?
There 'was' a video of Rick saying this on RUclips !
Everywhere you look it says The Waters gals did the Backing Vocals on both MJG's LP's...
    diamondville.com/NDRRT/Maxine.html
MAYBE she 'sung' on this Unreleased LP, supposedly Produced by Jam & Lewis, but I doubt it ???
    ps
'MARY Jane' & they sing about a guy = EH ?

    • @JLPerryTV
      @JLPerryTV 7 лет назад

Motown, specifically Barry and the top 'new' executives, didn't care who did backgrounds as long as they had their lead vocalist. Meaning anyone, even random people outside the group, could record and bill it as the group name as long as they had the star lead vocalist.
Examples of that are: The Supremes' songs "Reflections" and "Someday We'll be Together" with Diana on lead but the Supremes did not sing backgrounds on those songs. Same with The Marvelettes' final album which only had Wanda Rogers of The Marvelettes.

    • @professormause
      @professormause 7 лет назад

If said I knew would that be reply enough ?
Wasn't there also 'something' about not being 'audited' so the exact numbers sold is a bit uncertain ie as in maybe a LOT more ?
Oh & shagging the Boss of Motown had NOTHING to do with a policy of 'featuring' all these Lead Singers you mention.
      I don't care I like what I like. xx

It shows how much HIS daughter knows if nothing else since RJ himself said many a time that MJG's was Originally Planned as a LP for Joanne McDuffie ?
Would it have anything to do with Prince, the notion of U gotta have a Girl Group ?
U know who was one of Vanity's first chums at Another Record Label after jumping ship from Purple Rain ?
I LOved Vals Singles [LP not bad either] with Rick BUT it's because of that vague connection she 'got the job'.
Did you ever see 'on telly' singing all night long, no neither have I.
I found an interview with ms.Mcduffie from 6 years ago when there was at least 3 Versions of MJG & none had THE Girl who sang on the hits ???
I have the same [simple] Problem with the 'chic FEATURING NILE RODGERS' [geddit ?] in that Those who Sang on the Chic 'records' are mostly all alive.
Fonzi Thornton though sings with Bryan Ferry's band, does he pay more or something ?
They were garbage 'live' too esp when I read of how he wanted to 'hide on stage' behind Alfa Anderson & Luci Martin !
      REALLY ?
Where tf where they then on stage ?
      I still want a bloody refund for that back-slap-athon & £150 for a 'meet & greet' = huh ?
No wonder your NOT in the RRHOF & that is NOT VERY Rock 'n' Roll & any who you were Disco, when it suits ?
      Just don't buy it - I won't !
