If you ever choose to do this again, you might want the camera angle to be farther back, so that you get a wider FOV. Great video though!
better field of view? he'd be 100x better off taking it off the damn *vertical orientation*

It would definitely be easier if the camera had a wider angle, and was positioned on a rod further back behind the car like most third person cameras are in games.
That's not even enough. It needs to turn when turning and stay in the directio of movement when drifting. This here is much closer to simulating the weakpoint of games' hood cams in real life.
Also most third person cameras let you move the camera independently to where the character is facing, so the character is still the focal point but you can turn it around to see your face for example, this would solve his problem of having to turn his whole body/car but I don’t know how he would implement that irl

@Zach B. What? I built my PC man.... I have Console too.
I’d recommend doing it again but with a device that moves the camera for your 3rd person. I think it would be more insane on your perception.
Yeah, I was thinking a frame with 2 linear actuators that moved in response to an accelerometer/gyroscope sensor on his head piece. You could probably code that with a little Arduino chip, I don't imagine it'd be too difficult. And of course, fov needs an increase. Or just set the camera further back

You could take this to the next level by getting a 360 degree camera and syncing it to VR headset. So when you turn your head you can see what’s around you! Great vid!
Or just zoom out and have still a steady pictures with a wider field of view
Maybe you could make it such that the camera rotates or moved accordingly when you rotate your head so you can get a better view of things around you like we do by moving the mouse normally when playing a game in third person perspective
Or maybe just use a 360 camera and render the 360 vid in real time
Or just attach the camera to some contraption on his head. So it rotates along with his. But on a stick angled above and behind him for the correct angle

Driving a car in 3rd person would be so much easier, let’s just say that.
Absolutely, except for the fact you wouldn’t be able to see anything inside the car. Like speedometer or anything like that
@@dieselexkore2063 yeah, I was thinking maybe like a little speedometer on the bottom of the screen to tell how fast you are going. You need a pulley and swivel system to move the camera relatively to your head, but centered over your shoulder
I feel like using a gyroscope or something like that conected to a rotating mount would be way more effective than a pully system system but I might be wong
Pulley would be cheaper
Wait, were you driving in an LDS Church Parking Lot? That's where I go to do stuff like this too 🤣

ryan trahan did this a few months ago
Very cool experiment!! In most every 3rd person video game, though, you do have left/right control of the camera, so if you do this again you could somehow have the camera on a controllable mechanical swivel, so you could still "look" in other directions than forward. Also, having it be able to zoom out and in would add a lot.
Should have used a 360° camera so that you could look around.
When you got into the car I legit thought you were going to add gta stars on the top

this is really cool, I really want to test this 3rd person camera thing
LMAO you have the craziest ideas, love it
You’re so creative!
It’s be interesting to set up a drone to follow you as the camera. And then you can adjust the FOV to be closer or farther away. Also get rid of some of the bumpy video from it being attached to you. Maybe need a motion tracker thing that tracks your head movement so the drone can match it as well.
Gotta respect the determination on trying to see how well he can do third person. Mans willing to sacrifice his car.
It'd be so cool if we could have cameras on cars that allow us to drive in the third person in real life

This is how it feels to be a video game character.
Man made the Third Person Perspective real, We can now live in a society where everyone has gamer view
When you load up rocket league with default cam settings
It might be difficult/expensive to pull off, but if you could somehow match your head movements to the camera moving around your body (maybe somehow have the camera be attached to your head instead of your torso) you could change what the experience is like. After all, in most third person games, you can rotate the camera around the character
You have the most Interesting video ideas I have ever seen.

This is what being inside a video game looks like
Increase the fov and attach the camera to your head somehow so the camera moves when you look around like it does in games
Him: in the car this is some unfamiliar bumpy road
Everyone: on the school zone
Also him: hehe
You have to have the lakitu on the cloud so he can show you left and right duhh
The problem is that you need a bevel that turns as you turn your head. Best way to do this is to put a sensor that measures how much your head, and divide that by some factor which you can tune, since you have more perception on the third view than first.
His neighbours be looking out the window shaking their heads at the 'special' kid living next door
Some 3rd person views allow you to adjust the camera around the avatar, and those do tend to make navigation somewhat easier. However, i imagine setting up a system in real life to mimic that would be quite difficult, and it isnt like some games dont have fixed views
