Hi… I’m frozen in on the GU between Stoke Bruerne flight and Cosgrove Lock. I’m now low on fresh water but in between taps that are 2 miles north or 2 miles south, no doubt they’ll be frozen as normally are in really cold weather. Coal boat was due 5 days ago but is also frozen in at MK so I’m being “really careful” using my last bag…the joys of boating eh…
@ yes me too… during the “beast from the east” winter, I was trapped on GU at Slapton.. canal was solid for weeks.. I have a small trolley that can take 2 water containers so managed to walk back 1mile to the water point, which was frozen of course! I should be used to it after 24 years as a continuous cruiser but I’m finding winters harder now in my 70’s…
All the best Phil keep warm all three of you, does Bushka and Midge have a Litter Box to save them going outside I know older cats dont like them, my one doesn't go out as she is getting much older I have told her she is confined to Barracks until it warms up a bit.😺🧐
Hi Phil, it's even cold here in Cornwall, and yesterday our boiler broke down! Engineer coming Monday, in the meantime, it's like going back in time, boiling kettle for hot water, lighting the woodburning stove, which keeps the lounge warm, but rest of the house is cold!! It happened at the worse time, as we have had a respiratory infection since Christmas night. Ah well, I'm glad you and the boys are safe and warm.
I had a boat go past today, and it looked OK, but was actually about 15mm and noisy. Cat was scared, so i won't be moving. My water is down to 25%. Coal and gas deliveries due Monday.
Hi Phil, daft question, are boaters allowed dispensation from the crt, regarding the 14 day rule ( for example) due to the ice being too thick to travel?
Oh yes, any bad weather or stoppage you are not expected to move. It does well to keep a record of any delays though as they are likely to forget about these things! I mark stuff down on my calendar.
I do know a bit about ice and canals, coming from a place where we skate (well, not me) on the frozen canal. Keep warm and block up your windows with towels if it gets cold overnight

Always try to keep as much in reserve as possible in the winter. I once got frozen in for five weeks!

Stay warm you three. One things certain, a winter wonderland makes for great photographs.
That's the only good thing about winter, apart from the quiet canals.
Hope you 3 are managing to keep warm 🥰🥶
Just about. ;-)
Good morning Phil happy 2025.
Looks like a tropical oasis in your backdrop.
Keep safe warm dry and virus free.

They do have a litter box but they usually prefer to go outside.
Main thing you keep cozy with the 🐈’s
That was interesting information about the ice...and some lovely shots of the fog and frost. Stay warm!
Thank you! Will do!
thanks for the great vlogs stay warm
Thanks, you too!
I`m a land lover next to the FossDyke canal. The Ice break came trough a few year ago and the noise was cool. I had to run up stairs and take a vid.
We are getting used to the groans and creaks of our boat in icy times 😂😂❤
It's an eerie sound.
This takes me back decades to my many walks down the canal. I now know a lot about ice and narrowboats. Hello from Australia.

Thanks Phil, hope you and the Boy's are doing well
Even thought the boat is 25C the cat is sitting tight next to the fire or on my chair as though it is cold!
Thanks to yourself, Bushka and Midge for keeping me sane in an ever maddening world.
It doesn't freeze were I am but years ago on the canal I got stuck at Banbury was to thick had to turn around
Excellent. Show them how cold it is to stop more coming. Stay in your bricks and mortar everyone. It's safer in your houses.😊🚢
Can you hear a boat coming down the canal when its frozen, be for you see it.. ?
Yes, but the cats will hear it first. It scares them.
How do you keep your cats off that magnificent palm? I had a cat that kept chewing his way through my parlour palm.
They've never shown any interest in it. They knocked it over a couple of times though.
AT LEAST YOUR NOT IN THE ARTIC , BRAVE SOUL .KEEP THAT FIRE BURNING ?🥶👍
My cat brought in two mice, I re welded them!

Lot of raining coming in... are you putting in coal for heating ?
