He even linked a specific picture of Francesca in a reply to me as some kind of evidence for how she was being provocative. It was literally just a picture of her holding a book.
I just love how liberals use that oow bar of what is considered "sexualised" to absolve literally everyone of the accusation of using appearance to lubricate their way to success; it's this same silly logic that's used to reject valid accusations of sexualization in sports where men are extremely modest but females are in underwear

The positive thing about Falk's response is that it's so overtly misogynistic, it draws attention to what female scholars, especially those that look conventionally attractive, have to contend with. I doubt Falk has actually familiar with Stavrakopoulou's scholarly work. Good point about the way the apologists get Ph.D.'s in adjacent fields. You see the same thing with creationists who denounce Darwin -- but their Ph.D. is in engineering but not in biology, a field where, as you point out, they have never had to demonstate competence. They can then critique Darwin for an audience that jsut sees a Ph.D. in "Science."

When I read the title of the video, I had some expectations of what I'm going to hear. But holy shit, I did not see this coming. Scholarship by cup size is just cartoonish level of misogyny, wow.
As a woman who was in academia too, I'm really disgusted by this man's misogyny. He's basically reprimanding this woman for having a chest and wearing comfortable t-shirts. He's reprimanding her for the fact that he finds her attractive. There's nothing new in that, including in academia. I'm Jewish, and I want to say that not only is there misogyny at play here, but there's also some ethnic discrimination. Some ethnicities, like my own and Stavrakopoulou's, do tend to be larger chested. This does not make us inferior scholars. My God! I can't believe I have to say this.
And…. Francesca has great things to say. She helped open my eyes years ago with a refreshing perspective on biblical history. She has inspired many. She has helped some of us face the fact that misogyny is built into the very fabric of our general historical perspective….maybe even into the foundation of the formation of the ‘Bible’ as it is.
I always tell my students to think about how they treat their professors and TAs, and their future employees and coworkers. For people who do not have to deal with this level of discrimination on a daily basis they need to hear about it on a daily basis. Some of the stories I have heard from colleagues are absolutely ridiculous. These people, like Falk, are basically just feral as far as I am concerned.

I have a Maters Degree in Comparative Religion, (focus on history of religion on the Ancient Near East) and Mdiv from Uppsala University/Sweden. The critical statements on the book made in this video show ignorance and, if I may say so, stupidity
This "Egyptologist" who thinks the Exodus is a real historical event over here just projecting and telling on himself all over the place. Every accusation an admission of guilt
Francesca is extremely intelligent and very articulate. To trash her work like this idiot is doing as well as attack her because of her gender is unacceptable! Reflects very poorly on Falk and his audience to put it nicely.
Imagine pouring your heart and soul into your work doing everything correctly and then some unqualified overconfident unsubstantiated nonsense is the best response to your work. At that point, it would be embarrassing to open one's mouth. It would only reveal your ignorance. This is why I prefer to leave it to the experts. Even if they end up being wrong... if we don't have legitimate concerns and grounds to challenge them on their assertions then what is the point of arguing with them? This is why it is preferable to have aleast one dissenting but substantiated critic to challenge on your behalf in the absence of us knowing any better. If we don't have a single valid argument against someone's position... why would you bother arguing? 🤦♂️
Who in the world would say something like that (3:34)? Wow, I am surprised that Dr. Francesca Stavrakopoulou doesn't sue him for sexual harrassment. It was horrible cringe. I actually turned my head away. I'm empathetic. So i felt all the embarrassment that Falk should be feeling.
Bro I love you because you prove a lot of things I believe in, same time I hate you because you destroy a lot of things I believe in. O well the most important thing is the truth, it doesn’t matter who is right. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Thanks Dan for bringing this guy to light and hammering him for misrepresenting her work and being pointlessly belittling.
the rage in dan's demeanour from the very start of this, wow
Thank you for this, Dan.
I know zero about Biblical archaeology, but was appalled at the way Dr Falk treated Dr Kennedy in his discussion on the date of the Exodus on Dr. Sean McDowell's Channel.
And to say that Francesca Stavrakopoulou was chosen to be on the BBC on her "cup size" is rude and crass in the extreme.
He is the Sam Shamoun of archaeology.
My jaw does not often fall down to the max over youtubes, however extravagant the content, but this egregious specimen had me gaping. Hate speech at its most mysogynistic!. I hope this appalling display by Falk has been reported to youtube.
It was a bad start, middle & end
MythVision suggested you and I am glad he did! Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you Mythvision for hooking me up with this video. Excellent and measured response. You just gained a sub.
2:58 wow. I was wondering when the misogyny was going to start, and I needn't have worried. It's difficult to miss!
Thank you for this. I've listened to Falk's RUclips videos, and while there's interesting info on Egypt, I felt he came at the biblical aspects with a whole lot of presuppositions.
Have you seen Francesca’s: ruclips.net/video/7xVBldyy_Oo/видео.html
Just another example to not trust when an apologist claims something is fringe.
Shes a legend, and that speaks through your knowledge as well. Appreciate you standing up for women. Not that they need defending but its refreshing to see this respect, especially on the internet.
Nope. ruclips.net/video/7xVBldyy_Oo/видео.html
@@nocontent4908 your point?
@@BenChaverin did you watch the video? If you did you wouldn’t be asking me what my point is.
@@nocontent4908 yes. I watched the video, what is your problem?
@@BenChaverin I don’t have a problem, but it sounds like you do if you think she is a legend.
Thank you for doing this, top commentary on this.
I don’t think any other biblical scholar has ever made we want to stand up and shout YEAH! at my screen
When I read the title of the video, I had some expectations of what I'm going to hear. But holy shit, I did not see this coming.
Scholarship by cup size is just cartoonish level of misogyny, wow.
Thank you for doing this. Falk is jealous and pathetic.
Have you seen her charade? ruclips.net/video/7xVBldyy_Oo/видео.html
You hit the nail on the head there!
It's called being a Christian
Just finished God: an anatomy. Solid work.
Thanks for doing this. The comments were just appalling.
Nothing like watching a good evisceration to start the day off well
You articulated that very well, sir. You are truly impressive.
Thank you for taking misogyny down a notch! “Theology by cup size” smh 🤬
Wow. I never knew Comic Book Guy had a YT channel.
It never seems to amaze me about the ignorance of evangelicals
I have never come across such treatment of a fellow human being in any professional context in my entire life. Is he really an Egyptologist?
This guy just set my teeth on edge. Good thing I can't reach thru my computer screen!!😒
You rocked it here, Dan. Thank you.
BRAVO - Data > Dogma
I wish I could add a “like” every time I watch this video!
I am glad to see refutation to this misogyny
Perhaps he's right out one thing: people who incorporate critical scholarship into their personal belief in an actual God are at the fringes of liberal theology among all Christendom
To be fair he did laugh at his self for his pronunciation.
Pretty petty 😉
what a complete birdface birdman three reeds wavy water.
I really hope that means something rude in hieroglyphics.
Bro, I ain't trying to start nothin, but be careful who you say that ish to
@@andrewkessler2020
ok dude - chill man. I didn't mean anything by it. I was just messing. I mean - it's just some weird pictures man. It can't mean anything that bad ....can it?
Please.
Don't say anything about this.
I've got a family.
Gosh, I can`t believe he`s serious talking BS with such ignorancy, it is so ridiculous, thanks a lot for this video response.
Concerning theology of cup size: Are we sure that Stavrakopoulou as a bigger cup than Falk? 😁
I already had a physical copy of God an Anatomy, bought the audio book just to spite this dude
Dan, please keep up the good work. You're not going to get any love from the faithful, but unless they hear this stuff in the first place, they won't be thinking about it at all.
"First they laugh at us..." etc.
‘When you start doing theology by cup size’
Woah wth did that come from?!?
Glad you gave a s/o to Sommer's book, used it for my master's thesis exam.
For anyone looking for the video - It's on Falks youtube "Live Stream #89". This clip is from 1:34:26 on that video.
Thank you, Dan.
I can't believe he has any sort of a degree whatsoever. I am certain that at some point, he'll get an honorary degree from the Dog Catcher Institute of The North Pole.
Are you insulting my all time favorite Egyptologist?
Dr Popcorn Breath
It's also shocking how shallow his analysis is. He says her analysis that he "doesn't care for her work", "odd", "weird ideas". He doesn't attempt to refute it with other citations, translations, or other analysis.
I have read Francesca Stavrakopoulou's book with great appreciation. I have a Maters Degree in Comparative Religion, (focus on history of religion on the Ancient Near East) and Mdiv from Uppsala University/Sweden. I find 'God: an atonomy' a fantastic book and would glady recommend as an introduction to the students on the Hebrew Bible. The critical statements on the book made in this video show ignorance and, if I may say so, stupidity
This "Egyptologist" who thinks the Exodus is a real historical event over here just projecting and telling on himself all over the place.
Every accusation an admission of guilt
The Exodus WAS indeed a real historical event
I'm positive he couldn't make it through one of her books!
The hemming & hawing to get to any substantive reasons is the tell.
Who in the world would say something like that (3:34)? Wow, I am surprised that Dr. Francesca Stavrakopoulou doesn't sue him for sexual harrassment. Or, she sure could if they were at the same institution. Unbelievable he'd make ignorant remarks like that -- so openly about traits of her gender and/or body. [Gained a SUB.]

Thank you Dan.
Didn't need to watch the whole thing, I got the feel for how it would go pretty quick.
I have watched some videos that the woman was in on myth buster RUclips channel. She is a scholar and I’m just not up to her level when it comes to thinking critically of Christian scriptures. I am a simple believer and that works for me. I might have to check out some her books in the future. Maybe I’ll disagree or some what agree with her work. Just have to keep an open mind, I know she has declared to be an atheist. She seems to be a very intelligent person.
*“Doing theology by cup size”* Project much, Falk?
Thank you for your meritorious response.
So can you add some links for some of her content that you'd introduce to a novice?
Read her excellent book, God: An Anatomy. Published last year.
I’d check out MythVision’s channel. She’s in there a bunch.
Hey Dan, do you have a list of recommended reading anywhere? The books you recommended here look very interesting. Thanks!
In the words of the great Michael Kelso, "BURNNNNN!!!!!!!!!".
Thanks Dr. McClellan, Falk needed a good burn.
Thanks so much for this response! It’s hugely important that scholars address this kind of garbage when it comes from people like Falk with superficial authority on these topics.
Also, I’m glad you mentioned that Kenton Sparks passage. I recall reading it when that book first came out, and I thought it was very useful context for understanding the way non-specialists engage with academic biblical studies. Up until now, I’d never heard anyone else comment on or affirm Sparks’ observations, so I’m glad I have a sample size of two now!
I am so interested in Embodied God. Can you tell us more?
