That was in the war between the Lost Hills Brotherhood and the NCR mind you, at the battle of Helios One, the Brotherhood of Hidden Valley under Elder Elijah was outnumbered 20:1.
...also Helios One was pretty much undefensible.
God I love the human wave attack and the use of ww2 style radios. It makes the NCR troopers feel like 40k Guardsmen fighting against Space Marines and the Brotherhood infantry in gas masks gives off Metro vibes.

the barely contained panic in the lookout's voice saying 'CONTACT!' when he realizes that wasn't just some band of raiders last night but a full on nation state, is a nice touch.
Just imagine lossing so many men to take a power plant, only for you to lose it to a mailman with an orbital laser satellite.

No smoke or no mortars or artillery before hand definitely suggest the NCR sees their leg infantry as disposable.
I don't play FallOut but it doesn't seem like they'd have access to that sort of thing
Mortars are effectively a grenade in a metal tube. If you can equip an army with the same uniform and firearm, you have the logistics for mortars.@@TJ-im8ur
The Brotherhood was based at Helios One(a solar power plant). The NCR wanted it intact which could explain the lack of artillery. Of course this is a fan-made short on a bit of lore in a video game but it is fun to think about.
@@TJ-im8urno, they do have it, these troops just didn’t get it, mainly because the point is to capture HeliosOne, the place the Brotherhood is occupying
artillery is not really a common thing in the falllout universe. you only ever see it working twice in the entrie franchise - in FNV you can fix ONE howitzer for the legion, and in F4 the Minutement have a few mortars.
These quad-weekly posts are practically comparable to edging. Amazing work!
But we all know that when it finishes, it will be the best climax we’ve ever experienced.
Just to know that the NCR eventually win, really puts it into perspective on how large the battle for HELIOS one was. SODAZ is a really amazing animator and truly deserves the support of everyone.
the Protectrons are a nice touch. Frankly this presentation makes them look way more menacing and competent of a threat then how I envisioned them in the game.
These ones are freshly serviced with new batteries, as opposed to the busted prewar relics one encounters in the wasteland.
Those Protectrons are pretty menacing in this scene with the beefy laser sounds.
Been on edge since the last one. I'm looking forward to when the whole thing is done.
even knowing how this ends this is amazing. plus as a massive fan of the BOS it's great getting to watch them in action as an animated thing and not just iffy gameplay

NCR lost hundreds of lives storming the plant - and after that some high-rank douche threw it all away by hiring Mr. Fantastic. Because he wasn't interested in making this station work and to use all this power to make someone's life easier or unlock its pre-war military secrets. He just half-heartedly obeyed the order written in some papers from his shitty boss. Remember - all of this bloodshed - to pay Fantastic in the end...

I like how at 0:52 the NCR soldier's helmet actually deflected the bullet in which he recoiled in response. An actual functioning armor which is something Hollywood or other movie studios can't seem to comprehend.
To be fair if your helmet ever deflects a round you have been incredibly lucky
The Brodie helmet that these guys are wearing or at least is the basis of their gear was not meant for bullets, it was meant to protect the soldier of WW1 from some shrapnel and falling debris from artillery rounds, that’s why it has that wide brim. If it stops a bullet or deflects one you can’t play the lottery anymore, your luck’s used up

They can’t use siege artillery at risk of damaging the power station. Otherwise I imagine this would have been a much different battle.

@@Svenne-man-1880 this battle happen way before Fallout NV, so they weren't in a "stretched thin" stage as bad as in the game
The match cuts between the advancing troops and the sand table is so nice.
i really like how this shows the battle just from the few reports we had, one side was better armed while fewer number, the other scraped together but came as an unending horde

I love how the NCRs tactics have devolved since the first assult, now instead of using shock troops and attacking by dark they're just sending waves of men to attack the BOS
To be fair, they lost the element of surprise, and since they don't want to level the place, and considering the Brotherhood could easily break any siege, there's only really one way to take the place.
agreed and to top it all off the frontal assault waves are just a distraction for the NCR units on the flanks which are likely elite rangers and NCR power armor specialists AKA the people who are meant to deliver the killing blow after the BoS waste most of their ammo on the cannon fodder troops.@@SuperGman117
@@SuperGman117 Yeah I came to the same conclusion, I was appalled by the WWI tactics. The NCR is capable of complex tactics and strategy but here their technological inferiority leaves them with no choice but to use their only strength, numbers.
@@BreakerXXIV well their main enemy literally uses melee weapons and tower shields (shields are lorewise) and only limited amount of ranged weapons, throwing fucken spears more often than grenades so...
The intention was never to simply overwhelm them with a frontal charge. The MCR surrounded helios and put it under siege the charge was a distraction to ensure the Brotherhood didn't see the flank till it was too late. The huge wave in the front was essentially a big flare intentionally drawing attention

The massive charge reminded me of the breach into Normandy with all of them just yelling running out but no one in front firing. Great scene use and dynamic. Love how both sides were positioned and the storm being an element with them mapping out. The mow down brutal but honestly expected. Great job!
Ill tell you this from being in the army it dont matter what gun you use shooting while sprinting like that isnt even effective as suppressing fire

Can definitely say I was expecting suppressing fire though or sniper cover considering NCR but the charge coming in I honestly expected one soldier to tumble into and tackle a protectron down as the others rushed ahead while others tried to pin and bash it in. @@kota9087
Also yes I know sprinting while firing isn't ideal, but considering the ways they could've maneuvered around. with people on map, they'd be flanking around not barn rushing. straight on.

Loving it Sodaz, and to be honest, I wasn't originally a fan of you releasing these in pieces (even though, motivation wise, I understood why you were doing it that way,) but it has really grown on me. Keep it up!

I think (and really hope) it's the Rangers, cuz in the next part we see two other white pieces moved up which have the 1st Recon in em (mixed with regular infantry ofc)
You can already see the Chemtroopers at the start of this scene. Sodaz seems to have everything well thought of to the letter.

NCR is really going full WWI mode, the only thing missing is the rolling bombardment, though I'm sure the NCR higher ups wanted to take the plant mostly intact so that isn't an option. Great work as always!

The combination of the map and the action happening feels like the intro cinematic to an early 2000s RTS game, and I mean that in the best possible way!
Open flat terrain? No cover? No concealment? Tight phalanx? No flanking? Up against an elevated and fortified defensive position? Outnumbered by man, munition, and firepower? General…you’re a god damn genius!
the Brotherhood are outnumbered, that’s about the only disadvantage tho
Cant use arty it would harm the powerplant. They have flanking units as shown on the battle map maybe shown later, probably NCR rangers. The ones shown are the fixing units used as cannon fodder. They can't siege em as their supply lines aren't secure as Mr House doesn't like NCR presence. plus, BoS can call reinforcements from bunker, so they can only resort to human wave to end it quick.

The tactics shown by the NCR so far in this series reminds me of a mix of WW1 and first Korean war tactics, it fits really well for the NCR tbh. Awesome work.

Absolutely amazing, excellent animation and sound work!
I've mentioned it before but I really love the style of the Brotherhood forces that are not in power armour. And those Protectrons caught be off guard, spooky boys.
I love how NCR first went with tactical attack during the night but got obliterate by Brotherhood of Steels firepower. And now when commanders realized that tactical fighting is out from the window with BOS, they just went with "We got numbers. Let's just send waves of troopers to overwhelm them". SODAZ (whether he is a fan of Fallout lore or not) did a research on the lore for the battle of Helios One, where BOS had firepower and protection but NCR just had way, way more numbers in manpower. Brilliant absolutely brilliant.

With the lack of mechanization available it makes sense that larger scale combat would revert to WWI era rifle charges. You've earned a new sub.
No artillery since that could damage Helios One, no armored vehicles since there aren't any intact, and no air support since the Brotherhood would just shoot them down easily.
