  • I learned something from Betty Buckley’s acting and song interpretation classes that made no sense to me when I was 24
And this one truth has proven to be one of the most important tools I have as a singer.
Not only does it make singing satisfying, rich, and wholehearted - it’s got huge benefits in life. Your presence in the world will shift. Your relationships and professional connections will flourish.

Thanks for this. I am preparing for a couple of auditions and have been thinking about how to show up. This is very helpful and makes a lot of sense. Patrick Stewart made some interesting observations about auditions as well - about taking risks, and recognizing that the people across the table really want you to succeed, because they are hoping to find greatness. I used to be a management consultant (another great opportunity to step outside oneself and be crippled by imposter syndrome), and I learned that preparing well, not only the content of the meeting, but also preparing myself in terms of poise and presence, was critical. Your video is a great reminder of the power of presence - which incidentally is one of the things that draws me to your channel.

I'm so glad to hear this was helpful for you. It's been central to helping me keep some equilibrium in the audition setting. Even now when audition opportunities come up, I have to exert some conscious attention on not letting my noggin run away on me. And yes -- preparing your energy and how you want to connect. Easy to forget. Thanks for your kind comment
