    Just received my first BLI GP20 locomotive. I am so impressed by the attention to detail and sound. Great job.

    Interesting sound effects: walking on ballast, bird’s chirping, a door opening, turning over the motor with the pet cocks open on all the cylinders to bleed condensation that may have formed overnight, then priming the cylinders with fuel and then the engine turning over with all the pet cocks closed, then the sound of the fuel firing up each cylinder turning over the engine. Pretty impressive sounds. The timing is way off but the average modeler wouldn’t notice. It would usually take me about 10 minutes to properly start an engine per Canadian National Rule Books in today’s world. But still very nice sound effects even without a turbo charger! Most people wouldn’t know what they’re hearing and wouldn’t care just as long as it sounds good. BLI you did an excellent job as usual, except for that dead track test. In order to really test it, wouldn’t you want to tape the rail heads completely one engine length to see if the engine doesn’t stall, all the lights stay on with out a flicker and the speed and sound continues without interruption? Or test with both trucks to be isolated by having two 3” tape sections spaced apart the distance the trucks are separated by on the engine? Just throwing out some ideas, your thoughts?

    Hey Monte, I assume that both trucks pickup signals, so even if you run one set of trucks over the tape it shouldn't matter because the second set is still active. You need to show both sets of trucks running over the tape at the same time to see if your capacitance works.

      I was wondering the same thing... how is this a keepalive test assuming both trucks pick up power? That said, I'm still highly interested in BN unit in HO scale :)

      Cme Now, I have to agree with you on that one. The tape was WAAAAAY to short.

    • @jeffreycravillion

      I agree, the first thing I thought of only one truck is isolated with the 3” tape, the other truck is still live getting juice from the rail.

    Of course the GP20 is going to span a 3-inch piece of tape because the other truck is still on the rails. Let’s see what happens when you put a 12 inch piece of tape on the track.

    Got my 3 Union Pacific's. Nice model. It's too bad it has the wrong sound decoder in it.
    If they were F7's or GP-9's, no problem as what you hear is a non-turbo EMD 567.
    The factory new GP20's came with a TURBO charged EMD 567.
    It's almost laughable to hear the engine start-up in this video and no turbo is heard.
    I returned mine in the mail today.

    Showing the Milwaukee Road "GP20's" is kind of a misnomer since they are in reality rebuilt GP9's that Milwaukee called GP20's! And the Conrail GP20 photo was after the units were deturbo'ed, you can see the paper air filter box where the exhaust stack once was.

    Broadway limited I need your help I am planning on getting your n scale UP4141 but the problem is that I have a kato unit track and power pack and it says that your locomtives run on DC/DCC pergon 3 and I don't what to do can you tell me what I can do I really appreciate it you can tell me what I think I should do plz get back to me as soon as possible thanks. Sinerly. Chris Scott.

  • @dadnyfur

    A more accurate test would be to cut off the track power. Far as I know, your locomotives have all-wheel pickup, so with having the tape isolate one truck, the other truck is still picking up track current. I do like the fact that BLI is selling locomotives with the extra capacitance pre-installed, great Idea!

    • @yog1539
      @yog1539 3 года назад +1

      Great test idea. At this time you're just gonna have to take my word for it. the locomotive will travel for up to 5 seconds when power is completely removed from the track.

    • @dadnyfur
      @dadnyfur 3 года назад

      @@yog1539 5 seconds is a lot, that should cover it quite well.

    So what happens with a 4 or 5 inch tape? Why not just put a capacitor in it and charge a little more?

  • @mikec9729
    @mikec9729 3 года назад

    You can actually pick the locomotive up off the track while it's running and the wheels will continue to turn while you're holding it in the air the system works fantastic. I just bought one of these and I can't figure out why the yellow Beacon Light doesn't work in normal mode or Pro mode anybody know why?

    • @IsaacAmadeo

      I sure hope not, from the people ive talked too smoke units were the least liked bit of BLI diesels, ahead of even the electronics

      @@IsaacAmadeo yeah I hear a lot of people say the same but me personally I love them and the smell and look is irreplaceable and you can adjust the smoke output to a more believable approach but this is just my opinion.
