  • I've watched a ton of videos on how to season a griddle and personally believe the one I saw on Blackstone's RUclips channel makes the most sense. You can do it however you want but a good seasoning is critical to having a surface that lasts a long time. The original video I watched is here:

    the seasoning process is very therapeutic. I usually season it till it turns black, usually about 10 layers or so. I did that with my 22 inch and it has worked perfectly.

      Carol my apologies I responded without seeing which video you commented on lol. When you said you seasoned with ten layers I thought you were talking about seasoning food. I agree it is indeed therapeutic and important! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!

      @@gtsbarbecueandcuisine4837 your welcome. My hubby bought me the AirFryer grill for mothers day gift early. I do the cooking and totally enjoy doing it outdoors. Im tired of my smoke alarms going off. Been cooking on flat top grills for about 10 years now, and there is nothing like it. Enjoy your channel.

      Carol wow nice gift! Thanks for the kind words. I’m an experienced barbecue guy but am a confessed rookie on the griddle. I’ve appreciated the new dimension and challenges this brought to my life and all the new friends that came with it. Forgive my struggles with quality content while I navigate this learning curve and please continue to offer comments and advice! I hope you are safe and look forward to more conversations! Have a great week!

      @@gtsbarbecueandcuisine4837 thank you so much. I must have been a pioneer woman in another life, as my husband puts it. I am only hanging out on RUclips, trying to keep calm from everything that is going on. My sister had a stroke last month in CA, and have not been able to go to her, so the videos, are keeping me calm. Thank you for your hard work on making the videos for us, God Bless.

      So sorry to hear about your sister. Not being able to go see her must be horrible. Take a breath and pick some recipes you haven't done before and start an adventure. I like to take out my yellow pad and plan for weeks at a time. Really good way to keep your mind off things.

    Nice job Gary! I had some issues when I seasoned mine. I did use Grapeseed oil, I did watch the Blackstone video as well, but did not have the flaxseed. I thought I would use a microfiber cloth because of no lint and it started to melt. I got everything off of the griddle, but it is slightly uneven, I am thinking about doing it again with flaxseed! I am enjoying the cooks so far!

    • @gtsbarbecueandcuisine4837
      @gtsbarbecueandcuisine4837  4 года назад +1

      Ouch! I used a cloth that didn’t pill up but it almost caught on fire lol. Yea Todd Toven from Blackstone says the oil doesn’t matter but the one I linked to just made sense to me. So far the season is great. I think it’s no problem to re-season but a dirty job. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it though.

      GT’s Barbeque and Cuisine I just watched some videos on reseasoning, I think I will wait for now. As far as I can tell, it is seasoned well, just doesn’t look as pretty as that job you did! It was panic mode when the cloth started melting! LOL

    Do you turn the grill off in between seasoning?

  • @rwa96
    @rwa96 4 года назад +5

    100% did it right. According to Cook's Illustrated this is the science behind it:
    Flaxseed oil is the food-grade equivalent of linseed oil, used by artists to give their paintings a hard, polished finish, and it boasts six times the amount of omega-3 fatty acids as vegetable oil. Over prolonged exposure to high heat, these fatty acids combine to form a strong, solid matrix that polymerizes to the pan’s surface.

    That’s a beefy blackstone Gary, can’t wait to see you cook on it! Nice walkthrough of seasoning it. My patio is far from level, I had to through some shims under the legs and use washers to get it semi level. Have a great weekend brother!

    So far from the videos I’ve watched no one seasons the reverse side. I always season the outsides of my cast iron to protect the metal from rust. Just wondering if it could be flipped to accomplish this.

    • @gtsbarbecueandcuisine4837
      @gtsbarbecueandcuisine4837  3 года назад

      You know that’s an excellent point. I never thought about it but I do the same with my cast iron pans. I think it’s easily accomplished when you do your first season! Thanks for taking the time to watch!

    Good video, I am a new subscriber and enjoy your videos. Your idea of using flat washers to level the griddle top is awesome. My top leans back like yours. They pour the concrete patios so they lean away from the structure so the rain water doesn't go back to the house.

    Your porch is not level, because water needs to run off away from your house when it rains or when you wash the porch. Nice video, thanks.
