For the one who wanted to omit Zappa, that's probably the Zappa album they'd enjoy the most, or "Apostrophe (')".
@ James Wilson - Apostrophe (') happens to be one of my favorite albums, too. I love this ...Money
I liked " Lost the Car Keys" LP as well as "Time to go to the Market" LP.
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown
I would definitely add Spirit’s debut and the under-appreciated self-titled album from Blood, Sweat & Tears.
My list would definitely include "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown."
Mr Fantasy 1967 was Traffic’s debut Larry. Traffic from ‘68 was their second. 🙂
The White album number one and Electric Ladyland number two for me Larry and your chair somehow looks wrong with Jinx not there,we all miss you Jinx. Bob
I love these videos, thank you, Larry!
I was laughing because before revealing your list, you said that 1968 had far less of the beloved albums... and then you start mentioning so many albums that haven't made your top 10, I think that was the biggest bunch of honorary mentions so far 🤣. But maybe the thing is that there are more albums that you only like, not love. For me, I was struggling and I can't come up with 10 albums, not even including the albums that I only like, because apparently, I haven't heard many albums from this year 😅, that's what I'm saying about me being far away from the level that I should probably be on to make a decent comment. Also, for example, Jimi Hendrix, I was listening to him 20 years ago, as a teen... but not so much later... and so I can't even recall if I heard Electric Ladyland in its entirety or if it were other albums - I had them on cassettes. Same with the Odgens album - I have a vague memory that I did actually listen to it, maybe some 8-10 years ago, and that I liked it... but I can't recall it or be sure, maybe it's just on my list... I THINK I've listened to it 3 times or so... But as right now I don't remember it, I can't include it. And Jeff Beck - I fell in love with two albums of his recently, as I started to listen to his discography after he passed away. I'm including him now, just as I did for the year 1975, but I only heard those albums a few times, they're not long time favorites. Deep Purple - I listened through both the 1968 albums a few years ago and I loved them so much that I'm going to include them... but I DON'T REMEMBER the albums so well right now, only the general feeling. And I can't say which one was better so I'm going to rank them together. Also... I love the little I know of Pink Floyd but I don't believe I have heard Sourceful of Secrets yet 🙈. So can't include it, I have a feeling that album would definitely make it had I known it 🫣
8. Jeff Beck - Truth
7. Deep Purple - Shades of Deep Purple/The Book Of Taliesyn
6.The Moody Blues - In Search of The Lost Chord
5. The Rolling Stones - Begger's Banquet
4. Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
3. Jethro Tull - This Was
2. The Doors - Waiting For The Sun
1. The Beatles - White Album
Before my time, but can definitely put together a 10 (in alphabetical order):
1) BEATLES - White Album
2) JEFF BECK - Truth
3) CCR - S/T
4) DOORS - Waiting For The Sun
5) MOODY BLUES - In Search Of The Lost Chord
6) PINK FLOYD - A Saucerful Of Secrets
7) ROLLING STONES - Beggar's Banquet
8) SIMON & GARFUNKEL - Bookends
9) SMALL FACES - Ogden's Nut Gone Flake
10) TRAFFIC - S/T
I think the reason it seems harder to find classic albums from '68 than '69 is because Top 40 AM radio was still the means of conveyance for most people in terms of music, so people tend to think more of singles released in that year than albums. Still, if you look for them you will find a lot of great rock and pop albums from that year. You've got some great choices as usual, but I might've found a place for The Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo somewhere, at least in honorable mention.
Great list Larry! Thanks for the mention of Anthem of the Sun, that would be my number 3, but then we'd have a favorite 11 albums from '68.
You included most of my top 5 somewheres in your list Larry. I would have The Rolling Stones - Beggar's Banquet at #2 though, White Album definitely #1 for any year. 3. Kinks - Village Green 4. Astral Weeks 5. Electric Ladyland
1968 is actually one of my favorite years in music and I was glad to see my favorite album of all-time on the list in Van Morrison's Astral Weeks. Great list.
A very respectable list, Larry! Great selections! I'm grooving in my mind to 'em now! Thank you!
One album that nobody has seemed to mention in the comments is Harry Nilsson’s Aerial Ballet. Such an amazing album.
1968 was the year I was born.
The only album I have in your top 10 is the White Album. A great album.
Putting a release date on these records really puts my age in perspective. Man oh man I hear these songs from time to time and don't even think of how old they are.
Had difficulties putting them in a particular order but here we go:
6. Iron Butterfly - In a gadda da vida
1. Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet
8. Gun - Gun
5. Small Faces - Ogdens nut gone flake
3. Cream - Wheels if fire
4. The Beatles - the white album
10. Blue Cheer - Vincebus Eruptum
2. Blue Cheer - Outsideinside
7. Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Laydyland
Odessey and Oracle is my all time favorite album.
Beggars Banquet, White Light/White Heat, Crown Of Creation, Sweetheart Of The Roadeo, We're Only In It For The Money, Shades Of Deep Purple, The Book Of Taliesyn, Electric Ladyland and The White Album...
Hi Studmuffin my favorites are mostly in your pre top 10 list in particular the Simon and Garfunkel Bookends an absolute classic and probably their best album I love the white album as well and would compare it to that. I have the Zappa and the Van Morrison I like both those guys but don't get either one of those albums. Mabe I will give them another chance.

Iron Butterfly -In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is one of my father’s favorite albums… I heard it over and over and over when I was young 🤪
I didn’t know Fleetwood Mac was that old wow… have a good day!!
You guys surely don’t realize how many songs from Simon and Garfunkel we studied in English class, bob Dylan as well. For info I’m French 😊
@@charlotteetienne1371 that was the "original" Fleetwood Mac also known as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. The band you might think of was formed later when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined in the mid 70s, Green left some tome ago and they picked up Christine Perfect in-between. It's almost a different band, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood kept the name.
@@dr.s. thank you so much for the precision 🌹 and you are right I was thinking of the “later” band. Have a great evening and thank you again 😘🌹
@@charlotteetienne1371 de rien et bonsoir.
Shine On Brightly by Procol Harum also came out this year but I can’t think of much else
Nice choices, Larry. I think 'Traffic' was their eponymous second album. 'Mr. Fantasy' (1967) was in fact their debut. Please, please DON'T omit it!🤣One of the more peculiar albums from '68 was 'Music in a Doll's House', the debut by Family. I'd certainly put in in there.
I made a top 30 list in 2021 and your top 7 is on my list, so we concur. I went with a Canned Heat anthology (because I cheat) in a different year. I did not have Steppenwolf or Moody Blues on my list, but like both of those bands. What would I put in their place? Maybe Johnny Cash and Scott Walker. But your list is stellar sir. Great job!
Based on the number of plays, here is my top ten from 1968. There are a lot of blues albums here.
1 Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
2 The White Album - The Beatles
3 A Man and the Blues - Buddy Guy
4= Black Magic - Magic Sam
4= Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks
6= Beggars Banquet - The Rolling Stones
6= Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac
6= Live Wire/Blues Power - Albert King
9= Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix
9= Hawk Squat - JB Hutto
9= Mr Wonderful - Fleetwood Mac
9= Music From Big Pink - The Band
The Beatles White Album is my favourite record of all time. I also fully agree with the second place awarded to The Velvet Underground's White Light White Heat. It's a fascinating and revolutionary album.
Hi Larry - You have the #1 right for sure. In addition (since you are into "Classic Rock") - I was hoping for at least one of the 1968/1969 albums by American Blues (Pre ZZ Top) to reach your top 10 - they usually never are mentioned anymore (in my opinion such a shame)!
Great series of videos Larry. All great choices too. Hope you do every year from mid 60s to early 90s. Either way you're awesome. Thank you
Some great albums, for me, also include In the Valley of the Dolls by Dionne Warwick and three Aretha Franklin albums (Lady Soul, Aretha Now and Aretha in Paris). Other good albums include the Funny Girl soundtrack by Barbra Streisand, Mr Wonderful by Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor's debut, The Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding, Delilah by Tom Jones and the first collaboration album between Diana Ross & the Supremes and the Temptations.
Being as Jefferson Airplane is my favorite band and my favorite album by them is Crown of Creation, I guess that makes it my number 1. Followed by The Beatles at #2 , Iron Butterfly at #3 , Zombies at #4 and the Doors at #5.
I always enjoy your videos Larry , take care!
Johnny Cash sold the most in 1968 I hear. After The White Album, Moody Blues was the first to come to mind.
1968, hard to believe it was 55 years ago! Songs are definitely better than the albums for ‘68, my favourite album of this particular year is Beggars Banquet by the Stones followed by Simon & Garfunkel’s Bookends! Glad to see Small Faces on this list, I’ve recently been listening to their music for the first time and I was blown away by it!
You mentioned Beggars Banquet and Electric Ladyland and both would be in my top ten. A couple you didn't mention are the Notorious Byrd Brothers by the Byrds and the self titled second album by Traffic. Both are my favorite albums by each group and would be in my top ten.
My ten favorites:
Electric Ladyland
Waiting for the Sun
Odessey & Oracle
Beggars Banquet
White Album
Wheels of Fire
S. F. Sorrow
White Light/White Heat
Astral Weeks
Crown of Creation
Can't question #1. I would have included Truth on my list. One of my favorite albums.
Hi from France! My year of birth 😩
No 1 for me is 'Eli And The Thirteenth Confession' by Laura Nyro. It is well worth a listen if you haven't heard it already. There's not a weak moment!
Please, please, include Friends by The Beach Boys😀
I thinka you coulda makea list, Stud😢...( I had to edit this uh, yeah).🤠never hearda of some of thesea so thanka you Mr Stud.
Hey! Actually, I think you should include Frank Zappa more often.Haw! Haw! No, seriously! I dig yer list, and also some of the other years, too! Seriously, 67 to 69, with so many bands cranking out 2 sometimes 3 in one year, (the Mothers, for example), it's hard to narrow it down to just ten. Keep doin it! I'm diggin' it!
Odyssey and Oracle would definitely be my favorite. The White Album????
Ha ha, you're favorite Beatles album! 😀
As always in the sixties ,so much
great music so little time , Traffic , Monkees , Byrds , Beau Brummels , Dillards , John Hartford
Beatles , Band , the top ten would be fluid
I always thought Steppen wolf was a one trick pony, but listening to some album songs online - they were really excellent!
Yes, they are very underrated.
Astral Weeks My biggest regret !!
The year of my birth
Hello again
First I will say Velvet Underground is
my favourite group but why listen 10 times, you dint read a book 10 times
Take care.....
I think most people who love music will listen to an album more than once... thanks.
Never feed the trolls.
You need to watch my Bad Grammer series...
ruclips.net/video/Okr2TH05jWU/видео.html
These are all tasty.
For me the white album needed to be condensed down to single to rank as one of the greatest. For me too many fillers
besteveralbums is a good website too
