Whether you're a fan of classical music or not, Karl Jenkins' Stabat Mater is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates the beauty of music. Such mesmerizing melodies!!
Incredible. Beautiful. I cant believe this was composed in the 21st century!! (the music I mean) I stand corrected, I have been saying that musical composition was completely dead. Especially the movement that starts at 24:17, moved me to tears the first time I heard it. . . . still does. Great to hear we still have great composers alive today. Thank you Karl.
Musical Friends, I quess this is the real meaning of Karl Jenkins music: to share thougths and feelings from both the music, the lyrics and -not at least- the performance! I 'm very grateful to be able to sing it together with so many singers from all over the world! And among the members of my choir from The Netherlands; also my two daughters! And among tha audiance; my wife, Wonderfull.
My choir is rehearsing this for a concert on Good Friday. We have also done the "Armed Man" twice. Great music and an even greater privilege to be part of it.
No matter how many Stabat Maters I listen to, can't get Dvorak's out of my head; SO PIOGNANT, so tearful. Doesn't mean this is any less beautiful, though!
my choir is performing the Armed Man this month [March 2019] with a brass band + video. It is the first work I am learning + singing by Sir Jenkins. I am in love with that piece and am enjoying this Stabat Mater one first listening here.
To be dedicated to all the people who suffer in Syria, Iraq, India, Israel, The Palestinian autonomy, Ukraina and wherever in our world mothers cry on their children.

Still more wonderfull; With a part of the Dutch choir The Voice Company I'am going to sing this composition of Jenkins at The Carnegie Hall in New York on 2014, January the 20-th. Besides that, w'e have planned to sing this also in the Netherlands (April 2014) en in the autumn we will perform The Peacemakers. That will be at the World Forum Theatre in The Haque, accompanied by the Vipotta Symph. Orchestra.
To not only understand, but to relish the glorious spirit of this music,is a gift in itself. But to actually be a part of it,is an enviable privilege indeed.I'm sure your voice will shine with all the best voices, and I sincerely hope you're young enough to continue with your art for many years to come.Congratulations! Alas, that I could only be there.
Leo van der Graaff, I was at Carnegie Hall for that performance and it was the highlight of my musical life! I was in tears. Bravo to you and everyone involved

Oscar Fredriks Vocalis Thank you! yes I knew it was Jenkins's Stabat Mater, my question was regarding the orchestration... is this full orchestration or chamber orchestra? Thank again and bravo!
Ah, I see. The orchestra is Oscar Fredriks Sinfonietta (www.oscarfredriksinfonietta.se) which is a chamber orchestra. However, to many of the concerts we perform, they use to bring in some extra instruments, e.g. percussion and wind instruments.
There has been so much death and violence in the name of Jesus and other religions. Most religions are controlling and punitive. I believe that the only peaceful religion seems to be Buddhism.
True - but anyone can wear a label and do something violent in the name of whatever religion or faith, regardless of whether the fundamental beliefs of that religion or faith actually support what they are doing. Jesus was certainly not a proponent of violence, but many of those who claim to be his followers were and are. It would be like claiming to be an environmentalist, but actually supporting the destruction of rainforests. Unfortunately people lie.
Much as I love this and Karl Jenkins in general, I was disappointed to find it sounds too much like a rehash of his brilliant "The Armed Man"! So many of the same harmonies, same melody lines, same phrasing, whole passages of the same orchestration. And I'm not even a musician!
HOW MANY COMPOSERS DO YOU KNOW WHO DON'T REHASH THEIR THEMES ... BERNSTEIN, COPLAND, WILLIAMS, BACH, BRAHMS, WAGNER, GOLDSMITH ... OH WAIT, YOU SAID YOU WEREN'T A MUSICIAN ...
I also agree. Once you have heard one piece, you have heard them all. They are just variations on the same themes. He needs to come up with some new themes and harmonies.
Obsession with "peace" and atheism would seem to be odd bedfellows. Surely such a composer must have at least a little fascination with Jesus, the Prince of Peace to write such music. Jesus himself said those are for Him who are not against Him. Besides, there are no real atheists. Everyone believes in their heart of hearts. Some are just intellectually proud and think it "cool" or they're angry at God and so deny the one thing God seeks from them...faith. Now agnosticism can be honest.
Heh. Have you tried sitting through Handel's Messiah? Sheez I wanted to scream a couple of times... endless repetition of the same couple of lines (maybe because it's in English and I could understand it, but christ it gets trite after the 53rd time) - and it goes on for well over twice as long.

We have now added captions to the concert, so you can follow the lyrics (and maybe sing along).

What is it about Sir Karl Jenkins music that hits the spot every time ? He is ,without doubt, my favourite composer ever …..
Sublime.

No, it's not. The concert is directed by Lars Hernqvist, but there is definitely some similarites between him and Karl Jenkins. :-)

Is the chanting part ad lib, or is it written in the score? That soloist was so cool. I can’t do those “yodel flips” and am amazed at people who can.
LOL I'm an idiot. . . 9:30 is the start of the next song and I don't know how to make a time stamp. . . Peace ✌🏿
Is this concert being directed by Jenkins? Love it. Also check out Benedictus.
Hi! Where I can buy parts and score of the orchestra?
I find only vocal scores...
Hi Simone. I recommend you to check with Boosey & Hawkes.

"AND THE MOTHER DID WEEP" IS GREATLY MISUNDERSTOOD ... SHE WEPT OF COURSE ... FOR HER SON WHO WAS SUFFERING THESE OUTRAGES FOR THE SAKE OF THE SALVATION OF HUMANKIND ... BUT EVEN MORE SHE WEPT FOR THE HUMANKIND WHO WOULD NOT ACCEPT NOR HONOR HIS SACRIFICE ..
What orchestral version is this ?
This is Stabat Mater by Karl Jenkins

Sorry to disappoint you. Ask the Rohingya people of Myanmar (Birma) whether they agree with you ... probably they will disagree.
Touches of Purcell there!
