  • This is the continuation of my inbound Melbourne to Hong Kong business class flight on Cathay Pacific. This sector sees me fly First Class from Hong Kong to Paris on a Boeing 777-300ER.
    When I originally booked my flights, the MEL - HKG sector was flown by a A350 but last minute equipment change saw it replaced by a B777.
    Funnily enough, the aircraft which brought me from Melbourne is the EXACT same aircraft which will take me Paris.
    Flight # : CX261
    Registration: B-KQG
    Manufacture Date: 3rd August, 2013
    ETD: 11:00pm
    ATD: 11:15pm
    ETA : 7:00am
    ATA : 6:26am
    Duration : 13hrs 12min
    Maximum Altitude : 36,000 feet
    Maximum Speed : 523 knots
    I am truly lucky and blessed that I have the opportunity to fly first class and am fully aware of the privilege of having flown many other airlines in first, suites and apartments.
    So, believe me when I say that the crew and catering on this flight not only exceeded my expectations but set the new benchmark for my understanding of what represents the highest level of premium customer experience.
    The crew could not have done any more for all the first class passengers. However, they were not prescriptive, they were not robotic. They used their initiative and showed a genuine love of their job.
    This was the very first time I ever flew with Cathay Pacific (inc the Melbourne sector as all ticketed as a single flight) but will definitely NOT be the last. In fact, I will endeavour to find any and all opportunity to fly them more frequently.
    I've already published a video of the entire 56 hour journey from Melbourne to Hong Kong in Cathay Pacific Business class, 17hr transit in Hong Kong Airport, First class from Hong Kong to Paris, and then the Eurostar from Paris to London. That video is over 1hr long and is mainly focussed on the food and travel experience.
    Today's video is more focused on the hard and soft offering from Cathay Pacific in Business Class on their 777-300ER Variant 4.

    This is how the other half fly. When I travel abroad it's usually in the cargo hold. They poke a few holes in the crate I'm stuffed in and that's it. 2 Caviar services. The life.

      Even though I barely slept, I still arrived relatively refreshed and ready to start my European journey. Yeah, two servings of caviar is exactly what the Dr ordered. HAHAHA

    The landing footage is magnificent! It is so dramatic and really beautiful. Most flight bloggers leave out overcast landings but I really feel that they have a beauty all their own. Worth publishing, definitely! The food looked sumptuous! Thank you for the video!

      I am absolutely with you. Sometimes I find content creators only want the visual best footage (which I totally understand) but there's something about the moodiness of a darkened overcast landing. The sound of rushing wind and clouds as it buffers the aircraft and just the play on shadow and light. Plus, for me, a large part of takeoff and landing videos I love most is the audio. The food was beyond scrummy!

    An Air France pilot confirmed to me that indeed if you board with a camera, they will notice it and the service will be more than exceptional because it gives them free publicity, so your appreciation is not surprising, Cathay has well asked their flight attendant to be very attentive especially as you are traveling in first class.

    • @TimEatsandTravels
      @TimEatsandTravels  9 месяцев назад

      That's what I would have thought. It's free advertising for the airline. However, I have received a very mixed bag of service levels on different airlines from the around the world. You would assume flying First Class the service offering would be top notch. I can assure you, I've received some truly diabolical F&B, and service from certain airlines...with or without a camera. I don't film every single flight. I never contact the airline in advance of my trips so they can't prepare but I assumed the same about what the Air France pilot's comment.

    • @Peter-jk4ds
      @Peter-jk4ds 9 месяцев назад

      There’s no need to contact the airline to get benefits. Your GoPro cam showed you are a RUclipsur and they will of course offer you the best.
      Sometimes, depending the crews, they will ask you to turn off your camera because the other passengers can find it annoying, the captain reserves the right to disembark the RUclipsur if he doesn’t accept to stop to film. It already happened with Air France and Singapore airlines.

      @@Peter-jk4dsI'm not a RUclipsr and had exactly the same experience in CX first 3 weeks ago so I don't think they did anything they don't not normally do

    Hey Tim new subscriber here the music was a bit off it wasn't in constant touch with what your showing, but overall good, and I appreciate if you could sneak in few glances at the screen and let's see what's on, I like making comparisons to Emirates ICE playlist which is awesome and they use Linux as a baseline OS which is cool in my book, and what I love about flying in some cases you get to see a another airplane jetting through the skies at a higher altitude or even low in some cases, it's just unique enjoyment and and experience. Anyway Safe Journeys.

      Thank you so much for dropping by and watching my video. Especially a huge thanks for providing constructive criticisms. I will endeavour to apply them when I record and edit my future videos. EK Ice is one of the best AVOD you'll find in any airline. Apart from the age of hardware, the IFE isn't the most user friendly. Might have to volunteer my UI and UX experience to CX. haha Thanks so much for your support again.

    As much as I feel the same towards CX First, I would still say this, when you pay this amount (or equivalent amount of miles), a high service level should be expected and that's what CX used to excel in First Class (with their business class products & services largely on the down side). However you do hear about the consistency across different reviewers on their soft products and that's very lucky of you that you had a great time.

      This flight to CDG and the earlier MEL to HKG sector were my very initial introduction to CX. I don't have any status with the airline and they were not advised on my filming nor was this a sponsored flight. So I couldn't have been happier to have received such excellent service in both my business and first flights, by my personal standards anyway. I have been told by friends not to expect too much in their business cabin so maybe my expectations were already lowered. I've been asked by a few subscribers to fly their economy product and then compare. I just might do that!

    • @willsmith39
      @willsmith39 9 месяцев назад

      @@TimEatsandTravelsI'm glad you had such a great time. As a person who's called HK home for over 30 years I think it's fair to say there's a fair amount of nostalgia for want of a better word for us locals when it comes to CX so it's always great to hear someone having such a positive experience.
      Cathay as I'm sure you've been aware have faced seemingly endless headwinds in recent years with a heavily political element in a HK gov that's actively hostile towards the airline, not supportive. I'm frankly amazed they are still going to be quite honest let alone producing to this level.
      And they are still top notch. Yes Qatar and SA definitely have a superior business product overall so there's catching up to do but they still have great lounges, great staff, a first economy and premium economy product as well as first and biz would still be in my top 5 even with the dated hard product and limited menu

      Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. As a general rule, if I can get away with it, I try not to record/show non-consenting people on my clips. I do have quite a bit of recordings of my cabin crew kneeling down and chatting with me and explaining the menus, talking about travels, etc. I don't post those out of respect for the cabin crew members.

    A great review, and I really enjoyed your meal choices. Why does EVERY first class reviewer always have to sit in seat 1A? I don't know why, but I find that annoying.

    • @TimEatsandTravels
      @TimEatsandTravels  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much. I am all about the food and travel exclusively for foodie experiences. The reason I prefer 1A in CX's 777 First Class cabin is because it does not share the aisle with another seat. Seats 1 D and 1K (middle and right hand side) share an aisle. Hence 1A is almost like a pseudo-private cabin as there is a wall which blocks the right hand side seats. Seat 2A is actually the one I wanted but it has already been taken.

    Like you say Tim, nice catering, the crew was spot on, and the lavatory looked quite nice as well
    But the seat/bed was a tired design and didn't seem to offer any privacy. As you noted, the cabin was definitely showing it's age. While, the 777 is a noisy plane at the best of times. Crucially, the 17 hour layover at HK airport looked painful? Can't see this as an efficient schedule compared to Emirates of Singapore. Sure, time for a shower and a munch is great. But 17 hours hanging around borders on Soviet era Aeroflot style service.

    • @TimEatsandTravels
      @TimEatsandTravels  10 месяцев назад

      100% the hardware is not comparable to the first class cabins of other 4-5 star airlines. I am particularly excited to see what seats CX selects for their new cabins. When seated or in sleep mode the first class seat definitely gave me a sense of privacy from the other passengers. I couldn't actually see any of them throughout the flight (albeit most were asleep). There is a wall that runs the legnth of the cabin between the A seats and the middle row. If I was in the right hand window seats, it's possibly more exposed. I loved the PJs (very comfy)! Catering and crew really made up for the gap the seat left.
      If I had a do-over, I would absolutely NOT do another 17hr transit in HKG...heck, in any airport. Even though I was the luxury of lounge hopping, it still took a toll. I guess I'm not as big an aviation traveler as I thought I was. haha Watch this space, I recently did a 19 hour transit in Colombo airport. That was brutal.
