  • The men-himo should be no longer than 40 cm (about 15.5 inches) from the knot behind your head to the end of the himo when it's tied, according to International Kendo Federation (FIK) regulations. Having the proper men-himo length also allows you to tied your men-himo faster.

Thank you so much for this. A true lifesaver as 6 shaku himo are nowhere to be found :-) How much would you cut off on a set of 8 shaku himo? Will I have to put on the men and have someone measure the loops and ends first?

Christophe Arluison Sure. I could do that. But most newly purchased men should come with the chichigawa and men-himo already in place.

Thank you for the very helpful video 🙂🙂
But How come please the himo didn’t leave color marks on your hand?!

They do if they're new. I usually wash mine before using for the first time. Even then, the color will still come off for quite some time.
