      @@iskatecoach i do big backward swizzles without bending knees. is it good or bad ?

      @@anastasia1914 well the fact that you don’t need to bend your knees shows you have got your weight in the right place and understand how gravity can help you. Ideally we would use knee bend as well to enhance the push, so I’d definitely work on doing a good knee action now.
      In order:
      Feet together
      Bend both knees
      Then push into the swizzle from the bottom of the bend
      There will be a natural rise up as you complete the swizzle then repeat:
      Feet together, bend, then push out 👍🏼

      @@iskatecoach I live in a small town. The ice rink is also small and open only for 3,5 months in a year. The nearest ice rink with a possible instructor is 3-5 hours drive away, so it is rather hard to train there every day. I wrote 'possible instructor' because it is never certain they would be interested in teaching me. They may have already got themselves enough students. So I meet with a bunch of willing to learn skaters and we skate together and teach from one another. For the rest of the year, when the ice rink is closed, I concentrate on building my muscles, improve my balance off ice. And I watch RUclips, read books on figure skating so when the ice rink is open, I can go back and train again. Your channel is one of few I found that gives great tips for people like me. Thank You for your videos - they are my light in this dark world of skating in my town. 😊 Oh, I forgot to mention that I am an adult skater. The main problem is that my job stops me from skating every day for morning till dawn 😁 My family is more forgiving, they know that when the ice rink is opened, they come second on my priority list 😆

    Thanks for yet another wonderful video! My question has to do with the under-push extension. How do you turn your ankle, knee, or hip to make the line look as good as yours?

      That position is one of 5 basic positions we use in Skating. The extension of that under push goes like this:
      The hip of the free leg is turned in and directed to the side of the skating foot (parallel feet) not behind as this allows for a deeper knee bend. You should feel your leg muscles engaged as much as possible to straighten all your joints to a clean line.
      The glutes hold the thigh strong
      The quads push the knee to lock out
      The calf helps maximise the toe point
      Inside you boot your toes should be the only part of your foot in contact with the floor of your boot. You can feel extension, it’s a lot of effort to hold a strong line, if you’re too relaxed it won’t look as good 👍🏼

    My coach always asks me to cross my legs more. Is it a flexibility issue or lacking of edge control issue?

      I find balancing in the under push position most helpful. As you cross more you have to counter balance more, it feels unstable to start with then you get the balance by holding it longer it soon becomes easier to push that position lower and more crossed 👍🏼

    Thanks for the clarification about the edge! I’ve been wondering why it was never clear in other videos and it helps to know there are different theories behind it.

      Yes there are many ways to get to the same or similar outcome in skating, and in those cases 1 way is not always the only way or the best way they’re just different

    In addition to the common problems you pointed out, another problem I see often is putting too much weight away from the center of the circle and showing a raised and tense outside shoulder. Your solution for another common problem 13:57 might be useful for correcting it.
