Actually Ruff was supposed to be on All 4 U then they held on to the track and considered it for Damita Jo. In fact you can read reviews for both albums and critics talked about that track .

Honestly, if I were here manager I would have had her push through the scrutiny and judgment of the Superbowl incident and go against the grain. Put this song out with a Super Hot video with 🔥 choreography ( per usual) because she was Damned if she did and Damned if she didn't at that point.

She acknowledged this song on her Metamorphosis Las Vegas residency by playing it during a break.
I disagree. If I were her manager at the time, I would have told her to stop peddling the exact same sex themes for the 4th consecutive album. I love sexy Janet and I'm all for expression, but she was running it into the ground. The Superbowl incident was more of a symptom of the problem. You don't get up in front of the largest viewing audience in America and turn Rhythm Nation into a burlesque show and then have someone rip off your clothing. She was so stuck in gear with being more and more sexually provocative that she forgot to gauge her audience.

@@hutch1197 I wish her " All For You " Album wasn't so short lived, I wasn't too big on " Son of a gun " being the 3rd single, wish she released " Come On Get Up " "Feel So Right " "Better Days" as singles too. I always wondered if Janet had took a break from music after Damita Jo, and came out with a album like she did for " Unbreakable" instead of 20 yo and Discipline, if things would've turned out a bit different. Wasn't it Jimmy Jam or Terry Lewis who said one of those albums they had a hard time getting Janet to come up with ideas for the album. Can't remember if it was those 2 or "Damita Jo" .But for Damita Jo IMO I don't think releasing " I Want you " or "All Nite " was a good choice. Kinda like how " Got Til It's Gone " from Velvet Rope didn't really catch on, but when she released " I Get Lonely " " Together Again " " it was all over the radio. After listening to the DJ album back in 2004. I wish she released R&B Junkie as the first single along with a retro styled music video. Some of her bonus tracks from that album were better than some of the songs she had on there.

I seriously CANT BELIEVE Janet had boring/filler tracks like “Damita Jo”(title track), “Like I don’t love you”, “My Baby” on the album.....and NOT songs like “Could this be Love”, “Love Me”, “I’m Here”, “Put Yours Hands On”, “Ruff”, and “Pops Up”? Blacklist aside... Who TF on her team was managing the track list?😳 So many summer hits left off the album! Janet should’ve RULED the mid 00’s with this album! 💿 ✨

OMG I thought I was the only one who felt that way about the DJ Album. IMO I feel the "DJ " era ( besides the superbowl ) really didn't give me a good visual, theme for the album, like Janet has done with previous albums. It felt like it was "All For You " part 2 with outtakes. " Could This Be Love " " I'm Here" "R&B Junkie " " Pops Up" really should have been singles. I didn't really get into " I want you " or " All nite" I noticed alot of her tracks that didn't make it to the album were REALLY GOOD !!!, especially the ones from 20 yo, discipline

i can't believe people are still arguing over this song lol, pharrell confirmed almost a year ago that he never worked with janet on this song and flytetyme was only given the rights to sample nore's superthug. he worked with janet on only 4 songs this wasn't one. the only thing that was really news to me was the real age of the song, she started recording it in late 2001.
On the contrary, Pharrell personally confirms his involvement with this song in his book Blurring The Lines. (Chp 2)
