  • As a part of my folding bike experiment for commuting, I decided to buy the Swytch ebike kit for my Litepro bicycle. It's so much fun to ride with the pedal assist that it really gets me excited every time I sit on the bike.

Hi, I was looking out for Brompton cus I liked the compactness of the fold but the price was prohibitive. After checking your video I started hunting around and found a clone but with a 9 speed external gear system and disc brakes. It’s been epic and price was pretty reasonable so thanks for these videos. It has helped me a lot :)

      Is it a Litepro?

The Brompton as far as premium bikes go is priced pretty competitively. It is a lot of bike for not much money.

In the US, we have Costco, which is a wholesale warehouse, and they sell the Jetson Bolt Pro, a foldable ebike w 14 inch wheels, for about $350, it has a 350 watt rear hub motor and 300 wH battery.

I've seen this bike. I'm wondering how rideable it is when your battery goes flat.

@@BikeCommuterHero I have two of those for my kids. The seatpost is way too short for efficient riding. The front chainring is kind of small and being a single speed, you'll spin out quite quickly on the flat/downhill.

@@BikeCommuterHero it’s very heavy and difficult to pedal on 14” wheels. It’s absolutely useless on any grassy area. Pavement only. You could remove the electric tho….

Great videos! I bought one of these. If you plan on changing the heavy sturmey archer internal gear hub to a 7 speed let me know. I want to do this but not sure what is compatible and will still allow folding.

Really nice review, really enjoyed it. I have a Brompton but struggling a bit with my right knee. Was thinking to go more and more to go this way instead of buying a new electric Brompton until you mentioned the price. 950 euro WTH!. The light also seems a bit like a gimmick. I have a Xiaomi Mi Qicycle electric folding bike which I bought for 500 euro and which works really nice.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I agree that the price is too high. The light is actually nice to have, but it should be a part of the base model too.

ordering ia swytch direct is about half that price. You wait three months, but hey yo.

Hey! Wondering if you are able to take the motor off sometimes. Like, let's say I need my bike to be lightweight for some things, but then on another trip I have to go uphill and decide to take the motor with me. Is this a possibility? I can imagine it adds some weight to the bike.

Simply no. I am not a fraud or cheat. 1) I ride a GENUINE Brompton so I am not ripping off Brompton. 2) I am not lazy. 3) I care about our environment. Why would I want to ride a bicycle with a dirty great motor and battery attached? I can ride my Brompton perfectly fine without needing a motor to power me along. As I say I am not lazy or selfish.

I agree with your points 2 and 3 but with regards to ripping off Brompton I have to say that I am glad their patent has now expired so there are clones that are affordable for others.
