- Black Clauchrie House is an Arts and Crafts style former hunting lodge, set in 14 acres (57,000 m2) of grounds near Barrhill in South Ayrshire. Adrian and Caroline Goodall bought the property in 2004, but have yet to capitalise on their investment. Ruth tries to help the pair take advantage of their home's heritage, but will other professional commitments help destroy the couple's relationship, and put the future of Black Clauchrie House at risk?

Sad news. This program is from 2009, but in 2014 they sold the house for barely more than half of what they paid for it. It was sold again in 2016. There's no current website for it that I can find.

@@2Sparrows4aFarthing Maybe they just didn't have what it takes and the man made a premature decision to escape the rat race before waiting the required time to make a decision after two extremely serious life altering health issues. In any event, it's sad and I did see a fractured family.

YES…so many delusional people do this. These Homes were built for people who were the greatest oppressors of human labor. The original owners had indentured servants to care for it and NOT even FULL-TIME!! 😂 So why did these people think THEY could LIVE that DREAM without the Millions and servants for upkeep YEAR ROUND ?! 🙄 The very reason WHY so many of those places ROT into the earth is because of you can’t KEEP a place like that without being a Millionaire with STAFF you pay pennies to keep it CUTE, while you sip Tea and take it easy. THIS was a cute couple but WHAT exactly did they think living like a Millionaire would be like without the MONEY? 😐 I’m sad they couldn’t keep it, but they never should’ve brought it.

Poor man sounds like he is working as hard and fast as he can... One Women talking about Divorces and the other saying preparation is not good enough! I'm sad for you all! I've watched a lot of these show's and this couple I really hope they make it work.
Why didn't Ruth tell them to hire a worker to rebuild those cottages/outbuildings like she told the other couple in the other video I watched? Doesn't make any sense to tell one couple but not this couple.
I feel for the man. The woman was cruel saying it's all about you. He is already working his a$s off trying to keep them above water and they are jumping on him and calling him selfish...for working. You NEVER threaten divorce as a manipulation tool. He always feels a tremendous amount of pressure to earn money
Him? Why is everything on his shoulders! What is she doing! And he is making the money for the House Repairs, food, clothes, school everything else!

Big properties take so much $$ , & work to maintain. I once lived in a 5000 + sq foot house; it was cool but we spent every free moment maintaining it; It was a relief to leave it. I’ll live in “nice”, but never “big” again. I like to be able to hear what’s going on in other parts of the house. Jmo

I've only noticed three in this family. Indeed they can incorporate family or friends, a couple perhaps, to help them. There is plenty of space and buildings for more than just the owners to live and run this place. Incorporate and delegate! A lovely place, but it has a sad ending, I believe. JMOP Ginger from Texas.

@@lisapop5219 some of the nicest resorts are in remote places which make it more desirable to paying visitors. Look at the hotel in Colorado where the movie ' The Shining' was filmed. Some of the wealthiest people visited each year in the early 1900s. JS.
@@GingerGrutzius you said there was plenty of room for friends/family to help them. I took that as move there to help them with the day to day. I know some people like to vacation that remotely. Actually living there is a different story
@@GingerGrutzius I was surprised they didn't talk about hiring someone to take on the farm contracts. Even if they have to pay that person half the value of the contract, he should be able to make that up by being able to spend full time on the house. I wonder how much of the story was lost in editing.
People shouldn’t ruin their current life and happiness for material things. You only have one life. It’s better to have only what you need and be happy. Sell and buy what you can afford and go work on the farming you like doing…otherwise this couple will divorce for sure. Caroline is useless. She doesn’t work. She tells him what to do. I’d love to know what they did for dinner! That was TOTALLY unacceptable!
I felt the labour distribution was very unequal. There are only 24 hours in a day. Poor Adrian was working himself to death, and I didn't see Caroline putting in the same effort. Why did Adrian have to be the tour guide? Caroline could have done that. She gave the impression that she nagged a lot. Nothing worse that living with a dripping tap.

I like this channel, but this video is a sad comment on human nature, that other people's suffering is turned into "entertainment." Everyone's life is hard enough, yet we turn to this for entertainment? And before some some prissy, "holier than thou" tries to chastise me by saying, "But we learn from other people's experiences," I will point out there is a difference between learning and wallowing in the negative. Two minutes in and I'm out.
I’ve learned not to buy an old country house in the UK and that some dreams won’t happen no matter how hard you try. These huge estates were built for a different era. They’re beautiful but only feasible for people who have truckloads of cash (like the people who designed and built them). I don’t understand how even an upper middle class person would think they could handle the costs
I disagree. I found this a somewhat interesting look into the difficulty of owning large manors. This video was filled with hope, to the point of naivety, that the opportunities afforded to Adrian and Caroline could turn their situation around. The reality that wasn't presented was the fact that they ended up having to sell the manor at a major loss, divorced and were stuck in legal battles with each other for at least a few years. Obviously this show was produced before the eventual collapse, but to say that this show was nothing but suffering when it was clearly a hopeful attempt to save a failed business, and to admonish others simply for being interested shows a lack of understanding of human nature and the nature of our society.
The thing is, you can't know how the show's going to end before you start filming. I've watched quite a few of these now, and almost all of them are stories about getting people *out* of suffering. For whatever reason, this one didn't happen to turn out that way.
