- The last of our Panama travel vlog series takes us on a trip through the Panama rainforest, along the Camino Real and the Chagres River which once transported Spanish Treasure across the isthmus of Panama during the Colonial Period, through the eyes of an archaeologist.
We visit the Garifuna communities of Nombre De Dios and Portobelo on the Caribbean coast of Panama where pirates and conquistadors clashed over Treasure bound for Spain. Being related to Sir Frances Drake, Turtle tells a story of Drake’s history and the pirate rum bottle he found on his journey to connect with the pirate history of the region.
Our Panama series is designed to teach you and the visitors of the McLarty Treasure Museum about Spanish Treasure History, Pirate History, and the history of World Trade through the isthmus of Panama. We visit the top in Panama that are related to the transportation of Spanish gold and Silver from the Pacific Coast to the Caribbean Coast, and we learn a little about some famous explorers and pirates of the Caribbean along the way.

Driving in Panama can be fun and rewarding. The beauty of Panama is amazing and the culture and history of Panama are unique, especially the history of Panama during the time when countless amounts of Spanish Treasure crossed the isthmus to Panama's beautiful Caribbean coast. We visit the Garifuna fishing port of Nombre de Dios and Portobelo in search of pirate history and to film the amazing Spanish forts that guarded Spain's treasure from Captain Morgan, Sir Frances Drake and countless other Buccaneers.
We also visit the modern marvel that is the Panama Canal which replace the Spanish Camino Real and the Chagres River as the main transport of goods across panama. Panama's history is one of great importance to World Trade and economics. See some of the top destinations in Panama with an Archaeologist, treasure hunter, and historian.

Hey man! Where did you get that copy of the Gold Glove Tray (1715 Plate Fleet Artifact)? The original is in the Florida State Museum in Tallahassee, FL. I was involved in the acquisition of the real Gold Glove Tray back in 1979.
From Alex. We use it to teach about the fleet. Through it in the background as an appropriate prop for the subject.
