I picked up my manual 991.1 Carrera a few weeks ago. I test drove a bunch of 997.2 and 991.1 cars. If anyone is curious about my findings. I was specifically looking at manual base C2 997.2 and C2 991.1: - I obviously wanted a RWD C2 over AWD C4 - I obviously wanted an NA 991.1 over a Supercharged 991.2 - I obviously wanted a manual - I wanted to over-solve for bore scoring, it's just such a scary thought to have a catastrophic engine failure. Bore scoring on 9A1 is rare, but the smaller displacement of a base eliminates piston slap of the S. And thus makes it almost truly immune to bore scoring. So, why did I go with the 991? I prefer the modern chassis, modern interior, higher revs (7800 vs 7500), additional horsepower (350 vs 345), flatter torque curve, and additional bore-scoring proof-ness (avoiding piston slap) of the 3.4 over the hydraulic steering 997.2 3.6. The steering in the 991 is great and does not feel worse in any way compared to the 997.2. If you want fantastic steering, get a 993. I was worried about the 7 speed, but having driven it a bunch, I love it.
Ive had my 991.1 for about 5 months now. Its been fantastic. This is my first porsche and i find it very easy to work on. The updated interior in the 991 is a must for me over the 997. One thing to note, the reason the 997 is so popular is the amount of aftermarket support for the 997 over the 991. I find that the 991 is still a bit new and expensive for the crowd that wants to REALLY modify them (my opinion) but also the 997 can run 18 inch wheels with ease, the 991 basically needs 20s (and some 19s work). Awesome video!
You’re so right about the 997. I was just thinking the other day that they are highly customisable. Everyone I know is with a 997 has modified it in some way. I may do a video about this if this style of video does well. What mods would you consider on your 991?
@@RollingSlowMedia Well i already have OEM clear tails, H&R springs, Spacers for stock wheels, Soul Exhaust, Android Headunit, and a front lip. But everything else i want from here on is 1k+ haha. Rest of the money spent is just maintenance. Engine mounts, air filters, oil change, throttle body, etc. Just stuff to make the car last forever :)
A lot of great informative comments on this video, and deffo lots of good for thought if looking for your first 911 or 991. I opted for a MT 997.2 over the 991.1 purely because it was more mechanical in feel through the gearbox and steering. My 997 has the OEM short shift kit where you have to punch it into gear. Also preferred the size of the 997 compared to the 991 inside and out, but prefer the raised centre gear section and controls of the 991. The 991 is a fantastic car and no one would be disappointed if they were to own one.
A great video and bang on the money. I’ve had my 991.1 C4S coming up for a year at the end of this month. I’ve put nearly 20k miles on it and it’s been phenomenal. I’ve done two European trips in it, the second of which I returned from tonight, after ten hours of driving fast in Europe and ridiculously slow in the uk, I don’t feel like I’ve done 650 miles, it’s extremely comfortable and incredibly stable at high speed, a real pleasure to drive. The engine is simply awesome, that howl in sport+ as it goes through the gears is addictive. I’ve had faster cars, but this is the most fun I’ve had in a car I’ve owned since I had my Alfa 75 V6 35 years ago!
@@RollingSlowMediaThe first trip took in Reims, Le Mans, Loire Valley and coast near La Rochelle. The second trip was more of a drive to and back, as I left Friday and got back Sunday night, total of just under 1300 miles, for my daughter’s weeding.
Well done Trevor that was another great video , i am on my 13th Porsche and currently driving a 992 Turbo but before that I was very interested in a 991.1 still a great looking 911.
@@RollingSlowMedia My 992 Turbo is the best car I have owned and would highly recommend , my other choice before was a 991.1 or .2 still a great looking car , you can't go wrong with either .
Its a real buyers market for every car at the moment but 991 prices are getting so low its a very attractive modern sports car for sure ...just a bit big and computerised for my liking.
great info, love the vibe on your videos. 991.1 GT3's start from around the £80k mark now, bargain, and 991.2 around £115k here in the UK, don't know about US market though, but also worth a 👀
@@RollingSlowMediato be honest the only upgrade I'd think.about is 991.2 GT3 4.0 litre n/a manual Nothing else but is it worth paying £80k and my car for it? I don't think so😮😮
Starting my search for a 991.1 Coupe manual. There are no cars near me, so I am wondering how you deal with the PPI from a far? Getting a CPO car would be awesome, but they are also hard to find. With milage ranging from, 30,000-80,000 is it worth the premium to get say a 30,000 Carrera, vs a 75,000 mile Carrera S? Looking to hold the car for 4-5 years, and put no more than 25,000 miles on it during that time.
That’s a tough one. If you’re buying private it’s going to be impossible. If you go to a dealer you can haggle for one. Plus you get a warranty so that gives you some peace of mind.
Your car has its own bedroom 👌… well if you decide to get a 991 can I buy you 997 .. I think they still have the crown for best looking 911 has to have the aero though 👍
I fixed up my garage so when the misses is mad I’ve got somewhere to sleep 😴 I would consider a 991 maybe if they drop to under 30k then bridging the gap between what I can sell mine for and bagging a 991 will not be to big
@@RollingSlowMediaI’m just finishing a few bits on the house then getting one .. have you got a figure in your head what your car is worth.. just as a rough guide for me on similar cars .. thanks

991.2 is turbo, not supercharged
Hear hear.
Good timing. I bought a 991.1 this week. with Sport Exhaust. Sublime

We need a garage tour. Looks nicer than my formal lounge room 😅
I might do this for a video actually. Stay locked 😌

in my opinion, i would go for the 75k S over the 30k base. It may have some wear and tear but these cars love to be driven, not sit around :)
