@@44251 I think the issue you're referring to was a programming update that FCA made to the earlier model year Cherokees where they removed second gear from certain shift routines. This caused an annoying characteristic where if you slowed to a near but not full stop, the transmission would remain in third gear. Then, when accelerating again, you would have little power as you would really want to be in second. Increasing throttle caused the transmission to them slam down into the lower gear. This programming change was made to keep the transmission from essentially destroy itself with certain gear shift involving second gear due to a design/manufacturing flaw with snap ring related to that gear that was prone to breaking. My 2014 had this issue, but FCA replaced my transmission in 2016 and the new transmission had the snap ring issue corrected, so I then had the proper shift sequences. That was a long way of saying "yes, the 3-2-1 shift issue has been resolved since around 2016".
I have a 2014 (v6) Trailhawk with over 120,000 miles now and started using an ultimate synthetic oil and just got 27 mpg on a 5,000 mile round trip from SW corner NM to UP of MI just one month ago. Last weekend I was (back) up in White Mountains of AZ (see Alpine, AZ) and was in low-range 4WD in rock mode and crawling up and over (real) mountain top terrain to get into the dominant bull elk country for sighting and bugling-listening. Push the button, turn the dial, and you go from near-max-possible off-road (back) to street-machine-perfect, including a sport mode that makes it go like a Porsche in the (real) mountain switchbacks, paved or gravel. Very awesome for the price. 1" more clearance would be better via a little bigger wheel-wells to allow for 33" off-road tires would be all it needs (stock k02s) for ultimate clearance. Add a little bull-bar and roof-top rack ... then call that version the Trailwolf instead. :) ..... The ratio of wider wheel width vs. narrower upper cabin makes for a low center-of-gravity and that makes for a very sporty ride vs. most SUVs. For perfection: 2" longer in the hatch-back area and a little tougher off-road struts for the front due to all of the engine weight directly over the wheels - again, for stock-perfection so that no after-markets are needed (I upgraded to Bilstein struts at 100,000 miles and the KO2s at 70,000). As noted, wish I could fit some 33s in the wells. FYI: It hits 9th gear at 84 mph, so they could use the same 8-speed as in the Grand Cherokees and it would be fine. .... And interior trim color should be 'gold/bronze' not 'silver/aluminum' (would be my preference). Mine: Both front seats are heated and so is the steering wheel (and I like that now that I'm pushing 60), and I got all that for $38,000 back in 2014.
Sounds like you're using your Trailhawk the way it's meant to be used, OdinVonTogan, and enjoying every minute of it. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Can't use the grand Cherokee's 8speed. The 8speed is a rwd trans and too long to fit into the Cherokee. The 9speed is a fwd trans and since the engine is layed out as transverse mounted it only leaves the 9speed as the trans of choice
Great review! Just got my 2019 TrailHawk 2 1/2 weeks ago and LOVE it!!! I'm really impressed with the fuel economy so far. I have the 3.2 engine and I'm getting 25 miles to the gallon (higher than what it's rated for). That's not highway driving either. I'm mostly on country roads in the Pocono mountains with some stop signs and traffic lights. I haven't gone off-road yet, but I will. I'm actually looking forward to some snow this year knowing that I wont get stuck or have to call out of work.
Love my '19 TH. Traded up from a '17 when i heard of all the little updates and changes they made. Quite a few TH owners are reporting 26-30mpg highway. I'm usually around 25mpg when not using 4Low.
Awesome review! I've been considering trading my '17 Dodge Grand Caravan GT for a new '19 Cherokee trailhawk, I admire the look of it and the tech that comes with it. They outsell everything in north eastern Ontario Canada and I can see why. From what I hear they are phenomenal in the deep snow and on our icy highways. You literally see more Cherokees than Honda Civics.....I'm not even exaggerating lol. Great work my dude👍
We don't believe that you can, AM thalbah. The wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto connectivity is fairly new and only available in a few recently redesigned cars so far. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
What are you doing in my Jeep? Lmao, I got mine back in Nov 8 2018. Tested it through the winter months in MN. It completed every test I threw at it. I put it in unplowed Deep snow and cut through with zero problems.

Just bought one for the wife. This Jeep is tricked out with all the gidgets-n-gadgets. Got it for 34.5k. I'll stick to my 04' Ford F-150 FX4. Great review & Happy Trails! 😂
How loud were the AT tires? I know they were probably nowhere near the level of some aftermarket Mud/ AT tires with huge sidewalls, but does it disrupt the quality of the ride and cabin noise? Currently drive a 2010 Ford Escape whose tires make noise no matter which brand you get apparently
Hi, RiseAbove300. Considering the type of all-terrain tires on this Cherokee, they weren't that loud at all. This vehicle drove very well. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
This is due to how Ford tries to reduce NVH. Their sound deadening and vibration damping was not all that great for the 1st and 2nd generation escapes. That and how much of the escape is shared with the focus doesn't help much there. But they run forever if taken care of
Because they made that trim in 2019, too, Qugie. If you do a Google search, you'll find quite a few reviews of the Trailhawk Elite trim package for 2019. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Great review for someone with no vehicle experience whatsoever. No tech spec's or explanation of the Jeeps Active Drive 4x4 system. Some off road footage would have been nice, why not save the extra dollar's and get yourself a regular Cherokee? Did you really need the Trailhawk Option for this type of driving or would a regular Cherokee without the "Trail Rated" package perform as well under the same conditions? Regards.
Not our Jeep, Antonio. And not everyone has access to off-roading at any given time, so we decided to review this Trailhawk the way most people use it...on the road. Based upon your implied driving experience, you may enjoy our review of another Jeep better, as we were actually able to drive it off-road: ruclips.net/video/aX5Lkr-GbsI/видео.html. WARNING! 8.7" of clearance is not impressive enough. They should have gave it a bit more. Our 18 Subaru limited Crosstrek has 8.7 inches of clearance as well. The crosstrek is pretty much a car that can go a few extra places. I expect way more from the trailhawk
You can go 2” inches and still keep warrenty. Prob on my list later in the year or when I get closer to replace tires next year as I’ll switch to some better tires than. For now and daily driving it’s ok.
Jay Chapman yah I was looking at a used 2017 Chevy pickup or 2019 jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Hated to trade in my 2008 WRX but I needed something newer and more room so the Jeep won.

Traded my 2015 Cherokee for a 2019 Trailhawk. I love it! Some small issues with the 15, but the 19 has it all fixed.
kavaar87 I too traded a 2015 TH for the new 2019. I love it
Did they fix that issue with the transmission not giving you a first gear start all the time?
@@44251 I think the issue you're referring to was a programming update that FCA made to the earlier model year Cherokees where they removed second gear from certain shift routines. What's the difference between the "Elite" and non-Elite Trailhawk trims?
The elite has blacked out badging
And it has more of the fancy things like the heated seats, hands free trunks. I got the normal version cause I don’t need all that stuff.
My next lease 😁
How would it compare to the 2020 Subaru Outback, I wonder?
