Years ago was a locals restaurant around the Chetrapati Chowk just outside of Thamel that I would go to. It was all you can eat and 25 rupees for buff, 35 for chicken and 45 for goat, with rice, dal and some vegees. Also near there for breakfast I would have some chickpeas a few rotis and some yogurt for 6 rupees...this would have been in the mid to late 90's. My hotel was in the same area and I paid about 200 rupees or maybe 150. If you get food poisoning or giardia have some Tibetan medicine precious pills with you, red for food poisoning and green for giardia, they will save your life! I always get a box (with ten pills I think) of each from any Tibetan doctor. Around Boudhanath you should try the Tibetan food and some Thukpa, and momos and north of Boudha take a trip to Kopan Monastery, it's a Gelugpa monastery and very open to westerners. They also have a great lunch!
Thukpa is one of my favorites! It must have been incredible being there in the 90s but it’s also really nice to see it now as it’s evolving and changing so rapidly. I’m actually not in Nepal anymore but I will be back in May and will definitely check out Kopan monastery! Thanks so much for watching and for your comments!
@@afareastdream6741 Right on, the 90's was cool and not very different from now but at the time I was wondering how it must have been in the 70's.....I might see you around this spring, I'm hoping to go back this May and June too, Peace.
KEEP GROWING. KEEP SMILING.
