I have recently rediscovered your videos and I'm so happy about it. I spent most of my childhood and teens homeless and not in school, but your videos made it so I never had to miss Art Class. Thank you 💜

I've been watching your videos since I was in the 6th grade, and I'm now very close to graduating college! I want to thank you for teaching and entertaining me for all these years. You're a legend!

I’ll never forgot finding your videos in high school when I wanted to try my hand at manga drawing. I got your how to books and definitely got better but I didn’t have the patience to really dive in. But I still really loved your videos and how you broke everything down to make it digestible for beginners. Also loved the Brody’s Ghost series. Thanks for the memories

Hey Mark, still loving and learning from your how to videos! I have a request for one: how to draw and colour realistic skintexture. Thank you for teaching us so much and thanks in advance, if you ever get around to a skin tutorial!

Love it! You've talked about this technique before, and coupled with your perspective playlist that I've watched so many times, it has really helped me to improve my environments so much!
It'd be really cool on videos like this with the step by step squares, if you brought in an example piece at the end to showcase how you use the technique on an illustration! Like your temple explorer art or similar. =)

I first saw your videos six years ago when I received an art kit and a how to draw manga from my mom. Although I was very interested in drawing and storytelling, your books and videos shaped any skill I had into something worthwhile and enjoyable to look at.
Now I'm almost eighteen and getting ready for my senior year of HS and beginning college for art. Even though it's been six years since, my artwork still has a bit of your style in it that will never go away. For that I'm grateful since it reminds me to thank God for gifting you the talent to teach us as much as you did.
    Thank you.

Quite some white highlight materials such as pens and whatnot have sort of failed me so far. The white designers gouache looks promising. Do you clean the brush just with water?

I love listening to your voice while I draw pages for my projects.
It takes me back when I was starting out a decade ago.
You don't know me but I always return to your vids from time to time.
    Man, thank you so much.
Without your guidance, I won't be living my dream as a full time artist.
Also, I met my future wife (we're getting married on January) because of me trying to learn how to draw.
She's at least twenty times a better artist than I am. lol
    Thank you so much!

    Excellent, thank you.
For more subtle highlights, you might try Newton & Windsor's Chinese White (or similar). It's not opaque like gouache so it has the effect of lightening the underlying colour.

Hey Mark, I just wanted to say that I when I was a kid I used to enjoy drawing/writing and had knack in being an artist in a general sense. Though due to heavy life stuff during my formative years my passion for creating was -for lack of a better term- abandoned.
However, after high school and I entered the workforce as a night shift security officer in 2015 I found myself watching your videos to pass the time. It suddenly hit me that during my downtime I could follow along or draw whatever while binging your content. Needless to say you taught me a lot, but most importantly you were a significant part of me finding my passion for being an artist and storyteller again.
In this past decade since buying my first sketchbook and pencils, I've:
-Developed my drawing to a level that I can be proud of and be paid for. (Still forever improving and learning of course)
-Written several novels worth of original stories, one written 3-year running series of which has it's own very small niche of success and notoriety.
-Achieved a childhood dream of winning a category (Judge's Choice) in a official cosplay contest for my favorite video game series.
My own accomplishments haven't been world-shaking or widely seen by any stretch of the imagination and it' likely that they never will. But it's through art and my passion for creating that I feel like I know who I am and what I need to be personally fulfilled in life. Although I can't say it was solely your videos that gave that to me, there is no doubt in my mind that they -and by extension you- gave an initial push that sent me on the trajectory I'm currently on to accomplish what I never thought I could in a million years with so much more who-knows-what in store.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the educational and encouraging content throughout the years. It has had an incredible impact on so many folks aside from myself, but I'm so glad to be one of them!

such masterful use of each technique - the pastel makes it look stony, the watercolour makes it look aged, coloured pencil gave it true depth, and the white gouache perfected it!
really highlights the importance of light values ☆

Hi Mark. Hope you are doing well. I recently started sketching again after long time, and your videos are my go to for things to sketch.
I have made exact same copies of your drawing by following your techniques. I hope I could meet you someday and show them to you.
I have a small request for you, could you do a tutorial on drawing a portrait and sketching, of an actual person. I have never drew portraits and somehow, I am only able to follow your style of sketching.
    Thank you.
