    This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in shiny hunting, despite it not even being a real hunt in itself. Makes you wonder how many kids in the 90s had random shinies on their games without even knowing it!

      @@GlukkonAFK well it would take a couple things but yes it is possible to transfer a Mon from RBY all the way to Scarlet and Violet.
      I believe its as simple as transferring it from Generation to Generation up to Gen 5. Use the Pokemon Transfer installment on the DS to send it to Gen 6, bring it to Gen 7 then Pokemon Bank it to the Switch then put it into wichever Home Compatable game you wish
      Im probably missing some steps btw so it may be easier or harder than the method i just said

      Only problem with banking pokemon on the original pokemon stadium games is the bank is directly linked to your trainer ID on the GB cartridge, and if your save gets deleted from a dead battery or swap your new save will have a new trainer ID and you won't be able to get your pokemon back from stadium.

    • @LiliGasanj
      @LiliGasanj 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@StoleYaSweetroll literally not true, where'd you get that idea from? Stadium 1 has no restriction and Stadium 2 only restricts gen 2 games with less than 150 pokedex entries filled; what you said only happens in Pokemon Ranch

    • @StoleYaSweetroll
      @StoleYaSweetroll 11 месяцев назад

      @LiliGasanj perhaps it was the item bank then? I loaded my stadium game to get my banked pokemon from yellow onto red, and couldn't access them. Perhaps I'm just mistaken, but I do remember one of the two banks being locked to the trainer ID. Unless somehow my pokemon were deleted. I don't have a yellow cart anymore so I can't test it, and I'm not about to delete my red save to test it. Lol

    Seconding another commenter's suggestion: Back up your old games using Stadium (N64 cartridge batteries basically last forever). But RBY are more durable than you might think

    • @OliverMKP
      @OliverMKP  11 месяцев назад

      Well it's 25 years and 10 months, so it's closer to 26 as to 25. This way I don't have to change the title in 2 months lol

  • @pokeplazagamer
    @pokeplazagamer 11 месяцев назад +1

    First of all, let's address the title. HOW? shinies were introduced in gen 2 and weren't a part of gen 1 as it was basically impossible to make them a different color due to hardware and software limitations. Even if you could get the star and the sparkles it would be very hard to notice if you're not paying attention. So in other words, basically impossible.

    • @OliverMKP
      @OliverMKP  11 месяцев назад +1

      As I explained in the video, shininess is determined by DVs in the first two gens. Even tho shinies got introduced with Gen 2, they can also be found retrospectively in Gen 1 because the DV systems are the same. Obviously it won't show shiny in Gen 1, but you can calculate the base stats and therefore hunt shinies in gen 1. And they'll become shiny once traded to gen 2. This way even random shinies are possible in Gen 1.

    If you're still looking to complete your Japanese cart collection, I could tell you the seller I got a set from.
    Not sure if saving the previous save file is as important to you or not, but the seller I got mine from replaced all the batteries before sale.
    I'd gotten a set of Red, Green, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal for something like $75 and all the batteries replaced. Just a thought. The games I got were in good condition, too (they're legit, as far as I'm able to tell, and I've delved pretty far into counterfeit carts).
    My old English/US Blue and Yellowx2 batteries still work. I wonder how many out there still work, like percentage-wise.

    “Shiny” charmander just being a slightly different orange is the lamest thing programmers ever decided. I can’t believe they developed it so so many pokemon are barely different, when color swaps have so much cool potential. Like gengar’s shiny line should be white or blood red, ANYTHING besides basically the same color.

    I wish I had checked for shiny status on the JP red copy I bought before replacing the batteries. They had a full dex completion, even Mew! In the end I replaced the batteries because they were factory batteries and I wanted to start a new save anyway without risking save file loss, but it was the only GB game I bought that still had a working save 😮 Sadly I only have my childhood gameboy so I would have had to individually check IVs.
    I've heard that the longer your play sessions are, the better the batteries are because saving or turning on/off chews the battery. So that copy was likely loved a lot!
