- love the recycling of the cars original metal…. Leave the welds and patina 🙌🏼
The idea to use original metal is perfect! I’d leave the welds. Killing it!!
Definitely leave the weld showing, it’s like stitches on a scar. It’s all part it’s life journey! I love what you are doing!
Just found your channel and really like what you are doing! I'm busy with something kinda similar, 1959 Renault 4CV on a Beetle pan and running gear.
Evaresto sounds so much better than Evaresto
😂😂😂😂
Leave it just like that also the back where the bumper part missing fix it with the left over car materials
Are you going to do something for the fender skins on the bottom? I’d hate to see it banana peel out if the wind were to catch it
Can you tell me what the actual car is besides 1960 1000SP Appreciate the info, as I absolutely love it ❤🍻🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝🦘🦘🌨🌨🏔🏔❄️❄️
Man i get why you explain your provess to the purists but you shouldn't have to. The car scene is diverse and layered, builds like these are introducing an auto union to a group of car enthusiasts that may never even have heard of an auto union before.
I thought you were laughing at homeboys highwater pants? not the in the car & out! Looking like original TV show Star Trek pants.
The downward triangle bars would look better if they were shaped like the other hoop pieces. IMO
This is such a sick RUclips channel
Agreed, one of my favorites. Love the content.
Thank you, guys!
Leave it don't smooth it
Would it have been possible to bend radiused tubes at front of engine bay so they're hidden under decklid body lip & wouldn't show when decklid is open?
This is what I was wondering
Yea I totally could have done that too!
@@JohnLudwick The work looks great - just an observation!
Massive video! Also awesome to have a friend like Corey helping out and coming on the journey with you.
I'm all for leaving the welds. They give it that rusty but structurally sound vibe. One thought: Could you have followed the curve of the trunk with that upper brace? It would kind of hide it, and then that would allow for a completely open look. Just a thought. Thanks, John, for the great video.
Type 3 1600cc motor, twin carb, that's as fast as it gets in the VW standard world! Good work
Leave the welds, goes well with the rest of the build
Seam seal those welds on the back side and let them rust.
Idea: install the stock fuel cap on the fender/hood, close the rear location for it the same way you did the shock towers, but grind to look like a round rust patch from something sitting on there for long
FrankenSPein!
Leave the welds. Its like a nice pearl necklace.
Been waiting on this!!!!
I love this content!
such an amazing build. how has this channel not blown up!
I really appreciate that!
Really been enjoying this build. @urchfab did a Ford Anglia on his channel a few years ago that he put on a miata chassis and made a track car. Yery similar to how youre doing. But i like that youve kept the patina
Absolutely love your channel. I have very similar taste in cars as you and your fab work is amazing. Love seeing what goes into these builds! That e23 tho! 🤙
Now that’s what I call a good video. Fast informative showing skills . You stay on that track and you will go places. Or pay the bills anyways. You should have a second channel now. Keep the junk separated. Jive talk on that one. But this was a good video. Good progress. You might make that show. Good luck. PS the word you looking for is Kintsugi. Not to hide the history. Battle wounds. 👍👍
There. Calling. To. Meny. Think. Patina. And. Cool. .iam. Sorry. That. Look s. Like. Rusty. Hulk. . put. Some. Paint. On. It.
you can speed-rust any bare metal (welds or sanded) by spraying a mixture of 4 parts vinegar and 1 part hydrogen peroxide. It makes rust in minutes. Rinse with water once it reaches your desired rust level, dry and spray with flat clear. I made a couple vintage looking signs using this method and love how quickly and easily it creates patina
Pretty fun episode to watch, found myself laughing out loud a couple times xD that rear frame looks promising! I would try to triangulate from the bottom right angle of the bumper supports up to the parcel shelf, just to give the structure a bit more support 🤔
I am really enjoying the build and can't wait to see it move under its own power. I also am a fabricator and hot rod builder and have been capturing some of my own stuff. Curious to know what camera gear you are using to get your footage. Thank you and best of luck on the build as I will be here to watch every episode
Ive been following your 1000 build for awhile now and i love it the details to patina and still being structural aswell, i just wish the car wasnt so rare because i want one 😂 its like a 60 impala and 59 buick had a baby car and its sick dude 🤘
Recycling the old metal is a great idea. I wonder if you couldn't brush over the welds with some steel-it to keep them from rusting.
Leave the welds :) wish the video wouldn’t end:) big respect for your work and you as a person!
You should take the auto union material-recycling up a notch and sprinkle the metal shavings from cutting and grinding into epoxy to make a glittery shift knob for it
I like your builds and saving patina. We got to be related way back… (Ludwig)
I forgot, add some salt to the mix as well. Can't remember how much, maybe a teaspoon in 5 ounces
I understand you are going for the Rusto-Mod look / But Please address the shapes of the wheel well lines . Yes it dose matter because some of us do not like a rusty holed tin beer can on great wheels and rims touching the road .
I Think It's a Grind it down get some primer in there and paint that car up and make it look beautiful . Enough with the rest
Ok so. Ready to see Corey on an old school project👍👍 What’s it gonna be???
Love your work, but please stop repeating what you want to tell, over and over and over again.
Clean up the "engine bay" and clear coat it with some flat. Just my opinion
Think I would grind those welds! I think later on, it will look much better?
The inner fabricator in me screaming but i vote leave the welds, it looks hotrod as hell!
I'd say if it were tig welded, leave it. Grind it smooth if it's mig.
i love the frankenstein look.........................FRANKENSTEIN
With the exhaust, have you seen the "up and over" type 3 exhausts by Trimill (I think)?
One of those would give you loads of ground clearance at the back.
Just to add a note or a point of difference between the mix of VW & Auto-Union here...
The "Deek" would have the exhaust exit on the left side & it would mean a great deal to us DKW owners, in my opinion, to keep the exit on the other side.
I'd leave the welds as they are. It looks amazing, and recycling the sheet metal was a genius idea.
Thanks man!
I'd have to dress those welds a little bit, but, hey, either way'll be fine; up to you, guys.
Leave the welds. Car is looking awesome!
As a auto union guy. This needs a felix Wankel.
YES!!
@@JohnLudwick give it some NSU vibes. 12A with an IDA carbie. Sing the songs of the peoples
@JohnLudwick
Haha lol Yes !
Too little too late... ?
Just a point...
(Pun intended)😂
Is to point exhaust exit to the left hand side, if not to late...
Originally the side for all Auto-Union vehicle exhaust pipes John...
I vote leave it just like it is looks like it should be that way
I think I'll be as excited as you to see this one on the road!
Yes another vid love this build......
That thing is Kool! I vote to leave the welds btw
Another great video John, keep the progress coming.
Absolutely leave the bare welds!!
What a build. Cant wait to see it drive.
18:00 that's some next level cad.
Leave the welds, no grind
Just leave it, looks awesome!
This thing looks mental ❤
Awesome, as is customary.
One of the best tools you bought, amazing cuts
Clear coat the welds.
leave the welds for sure
coming along nicely !
leave the welds as is
It’s evaresto, not evaresto.
Turning out awesome!
John, I don't know if you will see this, but if you do.
PLEASE use the original 1000SP fuel fill location and connect it to the Type 3 engines oil dip stick tube.
It would look factory on the 1000SP and nearly identical to how a factory Type 3 Squareback dipstick tube is connected.👌🏻
I love watching the progress of this build. Definitely my favorite on the channel so far! 👏🏻
- Dee (1972 VW Squareback owner) 🫡
You’ve already read my mind! But I am going to weld in a custom Type 1 dip stick “under the hood” and make the 1000SP fill neck the oil fill for the motor! That is already originally where you would add oil to the 1000SP because it was 2 Stroke!!
@@JohnLudwick, PERFECT!👌🏻😎
Not to sound cliché, but “Great minds think alike, though fools seldom differ.”😅
Nice job!!!
I like to see more work and less talking 😂
It is what it is!
Yeah, I'm for leaving the welds. The mix with the old bodyparts is so cool! I enjoy every Video of the 1000SP 🤙
This build is so good. Love the contrast of the parts you are building to the original patina body.
Those captive box sections look so rad they need to be left in their beauty. Great work.
It’s coming together perfectly!
Haha I’m the exact same way with wanting all the new frame etc to be painted but don’t want to touch any of the original patina on the body 😂
And god damn I missed those tail lights, they complete the back end of that car! So hyped to see it next month!
Exactly man 😂 Dude I can’t wait!
those lines!!!!! Love your creativity.
