      Welcome to Alaska, I know, I know. I'm a little behind the story. I just stumbled across your channel and started watching it. I'm sure you have started to meet the locals and began to grow your Alaskan knowledge network. I've lived up here my whole life and I've been all over the state. I built a remote cabin on the Kantishna River several years ago, mostly it's a staging place for my hunting addiction. I spend as much time as I can out in the wilderness hunting, fishing and just goofing off. Enjoy your happy place, I sure enjoy mine.

      This was a trip of a lifetime! After some days of driving I was able to sit back and enjoy the last few hundred miles (with a shower!) Poor Kenai had to stay in the vehicle but he was a trooper. Sometimes he just wanted to spend time with me instead of doing his business! I was literally at the gate waiting for the bell to ring so I could go run and spend every second of those 15 minutes with him! But I did cook him a steak at the campground! And he has been by my side ever since! If you come to Alaska, I would suggest the ferry ride! Thank you so much!

    Well... Al(one)... I'm envious! I won't be able to take the ferry on either of my trips moving up. The first trip in late May/early June will be from San Antonio area driving a 20' U-Haul and pulling a trailer with my 4-wheeler and Harley. Since the ferry system bills you for the overall length of the vehicle (truck + trailer)... it would cost a small fortune. Then I'll fly back south after Labor Day to get my bigger truck with a topper shell on it (for the dogs). I still won't be able to take the ferry as I'll be taking 4 of my babies to become Alaskans with me!! lol. So my videos of my trips north will be similar to yours up until it's time to cross over into Canada. It's gonna be a wild ride!! lol... and hopefully lots of good videos!! Take Care!! This is all my watching for tonight... I'll pick up with #4 sometime tomorrow. Bill

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 года назад +1

      Taking the ferry is a bit more costly than taking the Alcan. When I was coming up to Alaska, Canada was literally changing their rules about Covid daily. They have rules about bringing pets into their country and you are required to get out of Canada within a certain time frame. They could deny you entry and then what? You don't need a passport to go into Canada but you need one to get into the United States again. I know you know all this but I would have liked to see the Alcan. So yeah get some good video! And you'll have to make the trip twice! WOW! The good thing is, you're moving to Alaska permanently! Let Jim know I will be binge watching his channel this weekend too! :-) Thank you Bill!

      @@AloneinRemoteAlaska Yeah... I know... my biggest fear is getting to the US/CA border and getting turned away since I'm not really an Alaskan resident yet... then what??? It's really up to the discretion of the individual border crossing guard whether to allow you to pass or not. Geezzzzz!!! I definitely plan on shooting a LOT of video on the drives up... especially with the dogs since it will be fall and the leaves should be changing!! Now THAT will be spectacular!! I have 3 different cameras I'll be using. I have a DJI OSMO for an action camera, my Canon DSLR and I just bought a new digital video recorder and haven't even tried it out yet... lol. Basically my plan is to video during the driving day, then download the video on to my portable hard drives, clear the SD cards, recharge everything, then repeat until I'm in Ninilchik. Then the fun really begins... editing a couple of hundred hours of video footage.. 🤔 I'll let Jim know. It's really funny, Jim and I were rivals in high school JROTC. He came out #1, I was #2. We had not seen each other from graduation night in May 1971 until we met up in the airport in Anchorage in the summer of 2019... so 48 years!! We reconnected and it was as if there had never been any break in our friendship (caused by life). It almost seemed like we picked up with a discussion from graduation night... LOL!!!!! He's a fantastic guy, way smarter than me, and I'm pretty darned smart, with a really funny dry sense of humor. I think you'll like his videos. He's gone through some tough times the past couple of years, but he's coming out of all of it now and he's ready to get his Alaskan life started!! I'll let him know you'll be overdosing on his videos... LOL!!!

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 года назад +1

      Yeah the "turned away" part was what you cannot prepare for. For me it was either risk that or book passage on one of the last ferry rides. And I wanted to get to Alaska no matter what! :-) Sounds like you are set with cameras. You should get some nice video of the changing leaves and some great shots of your dogs! :-) HA! I end up taking 3-6 hours of footage just to get a 20 minute video! It's not bad footage but I try to keep my videos short and sweet! I really never kept in touch with anyone from high school days much more than a few years after. And yeah I like Jim's sense of humor. I watched his peanut butter sandwich video last night! :-)

      @@AloneinRemoteAlaska I work in commercial construction estimating, and when CV hit, I decided to move from NYC back to Texas where I grew up. My company asked me to stay on with them despite me just outright quitting to move away because Manhattan got really dangerous there. I got attacked in the street on June 5th, 2020 at noon in Times Square, and that was it for me. I’ve been working from home, halfway across the continent, for almost 2 years now. So it can definitely be done. It’s actually better for me to work at home; no more distractions with people walking by my desk, talking, bothering me, etc. I spent a lot of mental energy blocking people out when I worked in an open office.

I atarted the videos from the beginning. I have been following all the AK youtubers you recommend. I was looking for Matt AKs channel simce he was on with @johninalaska. Was he the one who jad to go back to the lower 48. If possible, can you refer to that list of channels so i can look them all up. I've really enjoyed them all. I also have ave a long North Dakota ahead of me and I would like to get on more lives with you all.

    What a beautiful drive !
    You honestly think you will never come to the lower 48 again ? What about your kids, grandkids and other family ?
    I live alone in rural northern Minnesota and that is cold enough and isolated enough for me, winter is just hard and long 🥶❄️🥶❄️

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 года назад +4

      OMG! Minnesota sure gets more than its fair share of snow and cold! :-) I honestly have no plans to ever leave Alaska! My entire family is welcome to visit me in Alaska though. I will make the 10 hour drive to/from the airport as long as it wasn’t in winter time. We have such a small window for summer that I have to spend every second preparing for winter. My family is aware and probably more willing to visit me up here because who would not want to visit Alaska with a personal tour guide? But they will be put to work too :-) Also in order to leave I would need to board Kenai. I did speak to my family prior to moving and they all wanted me to go. Probably because I talked their ears off about it. This is my plan but as we all know not all plans go according to plan. :-) Thank you!

      LOL! I was actually SO anxious to get out of the lower 48 and get to Alaska! 🤣 I'm still in the US so I wasn't worried about anything other than missing the ferry! Which (if I did) would have kept me in the 48 for another winter. I caught the last ferry out for the season. AND I had just sold my house. I had no place to go back too! 😳

      @@ZarpeParadise Yeah it was strange to let Kenai just do his business on the deck of the ferry. I of course had to clean it up. But just think how many dogs where just using the bathroom on the deck! At least I had a room with a toilet 🤣But I had a muzzle for Kenai and didn't have to use it. I just kept him away from the other people and luckily there were not many dogs on this trip. If you walked or biked in with an dog or cat, they had kennels for them that had to be used. No keeping your puppy with you on the deck or in the rooms. 😉

      The reason you don't see anyone else on the ferry is that we were at port and most of the other passengers had gone ashore. Yes, Anchorage and the surrounding areas are very busy and hectic. Luckily for me the further you get away from the Mat-Su valley there are fewer cars and people. Thank you for watching! I really appreciate it.
