- MY time with the ROG Ally hasn't been PERFECT...there are a lot of drawbacks when using Windows 11 as a handheld operating system.
The Rog Ally and Window's BIGGEST draw back and issue, it undoubtedly they're inability to SLEEP. BUT today I present to you, my FIX to the ROG Ally's Sleep Issue...

It's weird my gaming PC sleep mode is perfecty can wake it up and go straight back to my games days later. So why is it an issue for my ROG ally. well I will watch but be suprised if you fix it. lol Edit oh you clever bugger. I never thought of hibernate mode on my ROG Ally lol. good idea mate.

There's a problem with sleep mode? I havent had any issues. I just open it up and use my fingerprint and boom, back in the game. Nothing on, full battery still, etc. I must have fixed the problem when I bought it and did the same shit I do on a computer... side note.... move to Linux? No.. im good. Linux is fine, but pc games already have issues with how many configurations the devs have to account for. Adding Linux would be a nightmare...

Sleep mode in windows is broken . This is a well known issue for years and documented all over the internet .
@@Drivenby Works on my gaming PC so maybe you are ignorant. It depends on your device i suppose laptops maybe but my self built PC it works a charm. my builds always have.
You're right. They need to fix problems the very same OS introduced.
It appears the user is still logged out when going to hibernate, which causes problems. I've tried looking for workarounds, including registry editing, but to no avail.
Also, how well does it work with games or programs that use exclusive fullscreen mode instead of borderless fullscreen? That needs lots of testing.
Still, interesting fix, not an end all fix, but worth investigating.
Works ok on my PC no matter what screen option you have it on.
I Have lest sleep in the power options if i press the on/ff button, disabled Modern Standby and only enabled Advanced Standby within Armoury Crate, since then i have not had any issues resuming a game, once i had the ally shutdown on me, i was stilll playing, when i hooked it up to the power and turned it back on game resumed just fine.
Armory crate side menu allows you to put it to hibernation. Just clock the power button when hitting the left menu button and it has the hibernation option there
yeah well this ways easier you just have to hit the power button.
Problem with hibernation mode on Ally is the gyro sensor quite often doesn't survive the hibernation and you will regularly get driver failures for it
Btw there are ways to disable windows updates and also you can go to updates and pause updates for 5 weeks or so. which is what I do on my PC since one broke it recently. It recobvered but yeah just stopped updating it then co's maybe next time it won't recover and I will lose data. I tried it a few times. not risking it again so just sleep/pause my updates. I may disable them. Should be able to on my ROG as well.
my rog ally doesnt go into hibernate even when set it will go to sleep if set but when set to hibernate it shuts down and everything open is lost. also requires pin after every restart so fingerprint doesnt work either
I don’t see what the power buttons do on the power settings can u help me
Matter fact if you long press the armory crate menu bottom you will be prompted to all modes way easier off restart sleep

ive been using this method for a while as well and i just want to add that sometimes the game i have open when i put my Ally into hibernation would crash when i turn the device back on (especially Horizon FW)
so i would always make sure to save my game beforehand
this happens even with small indie games
also on rare occasions the device would actually freeze when i turn it back on for a minute or 2
I have the steam deck oled had the game open for a week no crashes, you could try bazzite on this
