John Lennon, feeling how great they performed, despite the temperature freezing their hands and the wind trying to blow their voices away: "I hope we passed the audition."

Playing outside in cold weather can wreak havoc on your hands and a guitar's tuning. It great to see this video and I grew up in that era but geeze that opening groove was blowing my ears off.
I remember when this happened, and for those of you who aren't aware here's the blub from Wikipedia about this concert: "On 30 January 1969, the Beatles performed an impromptu concert from the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters at 3 Savile Row, in central London's office and fashion district. Joined by guest keyboardist Billy Preston, the band played a 42-minute set before the Metropolitan Police arrived and ordered them to reduce the volume. It was the final public performance of their career."
John has the dominant vocal on this tune. I think the truest Beatle vocal is John over Paul. Paul has a better voice overall but his highs compliment John a little better than the other way around. One man’s opinion.

True. Paul's technique was impeccable particularly on his 68 - 71 era and he was way more versatile and in vocal control than the others, but John's raw emotion defines the lead vocal beatle sound. The way they compliment each other when John sings lead is wonderful. I love Paul's lead vocals but there was a reason why John rarely took the higher harmonies, and it works much better like that. Paul can reduce and adapt his high notes on command to blend with John's much better than the other way around (John's attempt to a 2nd vocal on I've got a feeling depicts this very well, he could only push to get to high notes). I think their voices are the special element in the Beatles.
@ Yes, and there was a reason why John sang on most of their great covers. There was a reason he was the Beatle's lead singer as demonstrated on this song.🤷♂
Without a doubt. It's hard singing lead when you're on bass (though Paul is one of the best at doing so), but that said, Lennon's gravel, grit, and pathos blow this song out of the water.
All great comments here and as soon as you’ve completed the analysis on both sides,,,, you have factor in George! OMFG! A third great voice. That’s the Beatles!
They attempted recording the song during the sessions for the first album in 1963 and never played it again until the Let It Be sessions in 1969. When else did they play this song in their lifespan?
As Lennon told biographer Hunter Davies in 1968, “I’d been kingpin up to then. Now, I thought, if I take him on, what will happen? It went through my head that I’d have to to keep him in line if I let him join. But he was good, so he was worth having. He also looked like Elvis. I dug him.”
