I was lucky enough to be able to see this show live twice. The first time i went there was an understudy for jeremy jordan, but he was also incredible!! (Plus i was really there for christian borle and he was on so i didnt mind that much-)
Little Shop of Horrors September, and October 2019. starring Jonathan Groff as Seymour Krelborn, Christian Borle as Orin Scrivello & Others, and Tammy Blanchard as Audrey.
I saw SCAD’s performance and ironically me and my friends were on the side of the stage that didn’t get to see the teeth pic at all. Even after seeing it live I’m wondering what the pic looks like 😭
I saw it at Ford's Theatre during the first preview and the teeth pic was a banner that dropped down behind the scene and it got caught on the set, so I also don't know what the full pic looks like. Our Orin had a great improvisation to cover for it though!
when shows license the rights to the show they're not allowed to add/change material. I'm guessing it wasn't an issue for London because it was an encore after the show. It would also just bring the fast paced show to a halt.
That was the way I found out about it. Jeremy wasn't the original Seymour. He was a replacement. However, Christian was the original Orin for the revival
This has been my favourite show for over 10 years and I’m very conflicted on this production. A lot of it is fantastic, especially the puppets. But some things I just can’t get on board with. I love Christian Borle, but I really don’t like this version of Now it’s Just the Gas. It seems really sped up and I just don’t like all of his comedic choices as Orin, they don’t work for me and I’m not sure why. The lyrics seem second to the performance too, I feel like there’s no balance even though it’s a very comedy heavy song. The staging of Dentist too, I just feel like they could’ve done more. My other issue was Audrey, I can’t work out if I like this portrayal or not. On one hand, I like her as she feels like she fits in more to the Little Shop universe and Skid Row, whereas usually she’s a little more of a shining light in the rest of the scum. I like that she seems drunk half the time but then also there’s something that doesn’t work there. She seems so over everything and just more of a mess. Which I like since like I said, she fits in more, but then I also think that’s not quite what Audrey is meant to be. Even when she’s dying, it doesn’t feel remotely emotional to me because she just seems absolutely slammed? There’s comedy in her death scene but this Audrey seems like she’s trying to play every line for laughs and that just isn’t right for the scene. It doesn’t work either with Jeremy as Seymour. If you want to have Audrey be rougher round the edges, you can’t have a conventionally attractive man like Jeremy playing Seymour, despite him trying his best to play nerdy and pathetic. I don’t know if I’m really communicating what I mean that well, but it just feels imbalanced. Jeremy isn’t a Seymour and this version of him really doesn’t play next to this version of Audrey. I hope someone gets what I mean!
Just found out my postponed JerJor show from February of this year got re-scheduled for June of next year😭 This kind of new content is what I need to console myself until then
I’m gonna make a bold statement Tammy Blanchard dethrones Ellen Greene. She is one of the few actresses to play the role who doesn’t turn it into a Disney Princess, and gives full weight to the pathos of the character. Blanchard is raw, honest, vulnerable, and incredibly present. A welcome change from the woefully miscast Kerry Butler.
I have to agree with you on the Kerry Butler thing, but Ellen Greene will always be my favourite Audrey. No disrespect to Tammy, as she brings the grittiness for sure and smashes it. But yeah I love Ellens high pitched voice in this role ❤
I love Christian. And that Audrey would be amazing for like a school production or something but it’s a really pathetic excuse for a leading woman off Broadway. The Audrey who came after her was absolutely amazing
I was lucky enough to see Jonathan Groff in the role and accidentally pressed record on my iphone out of excitement🤪. I have a beautiful version of suddenly Seymour with him and Tammy Blanchard. He was amazing in the role.
Hi Chandler I remember when I accidentally😜 taped the song that there were many ushers watching inthe aisles , but I knew I had to have that song on film as he sang such a beautiful version of this song, although it took me a while to get used to Tammy‘s voice as it is so unlike the original version. Did they not do a professional recording of the film for thearchives like they do with most Broadway productions. One day I will likely put it up on RUclips RUclips for others to enjoy.
covid killed this for me. It was cancelled the day that I had ticket for. Now I get to see JJ. I still think this is a miscast. His vocals are too big for Seymour.
I like his vocals better than Jonathan Groff's. Granted it might be completely different watching it live, but on the recording I thought Groff sounded way too pretty. Like I don't want Seymour to sound hot, I want him to sound like a little nerd boy u feel me
I actually think Tammy has a really nice voice. It’s too bad her performance in the cast recording is butchered by all the pitch correction - at least we have this though.
I got to see the show on my Birthday... this was the cast. Except for Joy Woods (not here) I loved it. This Audrey I don't love... she lacks something... I don't know what. Sorry.
I have to dislike this. I followed every step, but my slime seems to have died from electrocution after singing a rock 'n' roll song about being an alien or something? Also it might still be alive, but to be honest, that has been a rather vague aspect of all this...
The Musical was always very much a 50’s B-movie take on Faust and the consequences of making a “deal with the devil.” The stage production and the director’s cut movie ended perfectly. Seymour was never an underdog hero. The original reshot ending for the movie with a happy ending undercut the overall theme of the entire musical.
@@JordanStrong-h4jthe everyone dies ending doesn't really work for the movie because it cuts out a lot of the stuff that makes Seymour a worse person by cutting out his soliloquy, changing the death of Orin to be much faster, giving more of an excuse for Seymour's hesitation and making Mushnik hold Seymour at gunpoint to blackmail him, making his death less dark for Seymour as a character.
I’m so sorry I know this is annoying, but posting bootlegs or even extended clips of bootlegs is actually known as a leak and is very damaging to the trading community! Many people who record the videos do not appreciate when there videos are posted online without permission, and starcuffedjeans, the master of this video is very against leaks. Leaks have caused a number of big bootlegers to stop releasing videos. So sorry for any inconvenience I just wanted to let you know 🩷

This cast does a really job of emphazing the comedic aspects of the musical.

It certainly captured the dark and campy humour from the original black-and-white movie on which the musical is based.
