Quite a lot more as the main line had been closed all night. Because of the speed restriction through Pyle and the long climb up Stormy Bank, the risk of a failure was high and would have caused chaos. The sight of an endless cavelcade of engines working to their limits has been imprinted in my memory all my life. I was joined by another enthusiast and we were the only ones to witness what was probably the most unique happening in the history of steam. I feel duty bound to share this with other enthusiasts. So far I've found this information but no exact date. During 1962-3 @ approx 2300 a car crashed through the wall at Pyle bridge and ended up on the line below. A Canton based 63xx on the 21.45 Long Dyke to Carmarthen freight driven by Cockney Davies ran into the vehicle killing the occupants. Needless to say the crew were very shaken up. If anyone can add to this I'd be most grateful.
