I'm no expert but I'm guessing that the rpms at this speed would be lower than what you'd find at INDY, F1, and maybe Nascar? Would that explain why it sounds like a jet and not the higher pitched whine like a high revving race car?
The lower rpms of the Veyron compared to an INDY or F1 car is only part of the answer. The main reason that the Veyron sounds like an approaching jet plane is that it is going so fast that it is *compressing* the noise (sound waves) made by those huge tires and roaring turbo engine in the direction it is moving and thus increasing the *frequency* of the sound waves reaching the person it's approaching. (In physics, that's called the "blue shift") The reasons that approaching jets sound like, well, approaching jets is that they are going so fast they create this compression/frequency shift of sound as they approach. The Veyron's jet-like sound is produced by the same physics of high speed. Compared to other hypercars, the Veryon is not *super* loud, and I suspect the unique (relatively) "smooth" sound of its magnificent turbo engine also helps make this "jet sound" effect more distinct and pronounced.
The Bugatti Veyron is a CONCORDE MOMENT. Technology invents something that pushes the boundary of what's possible. The Veyron is the world's fastest, most powerful, street-legal PRODUCTION CAR. This isn't some salvaged tuner car built by Hennessey: a LOTUS built out of parts from a dozen other automakers to be fast for a few seconds (Venom GT)...nor is it a back alley cobbled-together tuner car with an overworked engine lacking the engineering that VW put in (Koenigsegg's stuff). The Veyron is designed to do what it does- without fail - through a warranty period. The engine is a monster and downtuned to ensure its maximum engine life. AND NOW THEY HAVE THE BUGATTI CHIRON. An even more powerful monster that no one else can even hope to compete with. Hennessey and Koenigsegg are probably gonna try to use solid-state rocket boosters to attempt to keep up with Bugatti.
@ 0:33 the wing is down, it doesn't fall down completely it's just suppose to drop down slightly still acting as downforce :) not sure about the other time tho
Wondering about a couple things. 1. I thought I saw some kind of police officer near the start, but wasn't sure so was this sanctioned or supervised by law enforcement and was the road closed for the purpose of doing this? Because if it wasn't, then this is extremely irresponsible behavior on the part of the Road Rally organizers to do this on a public road despite it being empty. 2. Was the driver at least wearing a helmet? It didn't seem too clear from the video. Even drivers on test tracks wear helmets. 3. Was there an ambulance and EMTs standing by on site in case anything went wrong? If not, then, again, it was very irresponsible not to.
Yo PurpleGhost, all good questions and apologies they weren't made clear in the video! 1. This is one of the only events in the US where it is completely sanctioned--the road is closed off and cleaned before cars are allowed to make passes. Additionally, the lead Sheriff is constantly communicating with people further down the road to see whether it's safe to let cars make passes. In fact, a modified Subaru leaked oil, and the event was closed for about 30 minutes to clean the road. 2. EVERY driver and passenger wears a helmet. 3. About halfway through the run down a separate dirt road (video doesn't capture it), there's a mobile fire station, which consists of both an ambulance as well as a fire truck. This event is truly run in a world class way, and that's why its success and popularity is skyrocketing. Hope that clears things up!
Sounds like a bloody jet passing by.

Is the "blue shift" similar to the Doppler Effect or is that something else entirely? I don't mean to be lazy by not doing the research myself.
Swooooosh...

Bang on!
Why is the wing up? I thought that went down when the car was in high speed mode?
I was wondering the same, and conclude that it wasn't in high speed mode.

Hey look it's me!
SWAGSWAGSWAG
Would be epic to see a Chiron there that Bugatti could bring along!
Next year! 8-)
Definitely, speed difference will be crazy.. not that the Veyron isn't going fast enough down here already hahaha.
how long was the road? must of been shorter than the ring in germany owned by vw that let the bugatti hit top speed.
It's about a 3 mile run, so much shorter than the VW proving ground ring
makes sense, the one in germany is 5.6 miles
AIN'T NO LAMBOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
It is a LAMBOOOOOOOOooOOOoo000Oo0oO
Have anybody heard of the - SHAYTON EQUILIBRIUM - super exotic car
"Pretty sure that's a Lambo, dude."
*Да фигня, я так на велике езжу*
да я тож
And this thing is not even in "Top speed mode"

& it's out of fuel...
yet only for 12 mins until ran out of gas, what a waste of money, .
They should show the driver what one looks like after it crashes at 230 MPH.
What a hideous paint job
