I like the comfort to be able to change my body position on long drives, and an ease of entry and exit. Gm addressed a temporary desire to avoid sliding around by a mechanism in the seat belts where they tighten up if manipulated to stay tight. my car was set up by an independent corvette shop to be the shop X cross car in a stock class that allowed for an axel back exhaust modification. they chose a flowmaster , more of an old school high quality hot rodder's brand of choice. my neighbor calls the car a hot rod. because of the sound. I'm not digging the extra noise, but any increase in efficiency is a good trade.
I recently became the owner of a 2K Coupe, base trim. It needed exhaust, instead of spending huge money on aftermarket I picked up a stock Ti Z06 exhaust from ebay for less than $800. Could not believe how much lighter than the stock base model system it is, has a nice sound as well.

After you get the alignment done, at some time go max stiff and max soft. You'll appreciate the BC's. I did do the Amazon seats for a couple years but there too hard for long rides so I put my original seats back in, much more comfortable. But to each his own. For those that are changing out their seats. Keep them for awhile with the harness and memory. Its expensive to replace. I did go with the C6Z06 brakes. they're awesome. With my rims I had to use a 3\4 inch spacer for the front tires.18's on front and 19 rears. I do enjoy your videos, they are informative. Looking forward to the next.
So first thing you should do is a 180 thermostat and tune the fans. These cars run so hot from the factory, this alone is cheap, easy and will give you 30hp. Last thing you should do is change the mufflers, you won't gain any hp but you will gain weight, the factory titanium exhaust is wayyy lighter than aftermarket and flows the same. I liked the stock shifter 🤷♀️ seats are a must and I'd do a steering wheel while your at it. Rotors and pads, if you do any kind of "spirited" driving you'll warp the rotors immediately! I've heard horror stories about bc coilovers breaking so do some research.
@@stewpittt tune the fans means reprogramming / tuning them so they kick on sooner . I heard the second fan kicks on around 237 which is extremely close to head gasket melting temps

Great vid! the one thing I haven't done that you mentioned is the sound insulation. Our Vettes have a lot of exterior noise to say the least and sometimes it's a little annoying. Who did you buy the insulation from? And was it made here or the ever present china?
Add a super charger from A and A Corvette $6,000. I have had one on my 02 ZO6 for over 10 years without an issue. Base unit put down 525 Hp to my rear wheels. Acceleration is amazing.
I have a base C5 and am tired of newer sedans coming SUPER close to beating me. I'm buying an A&A kit along with some other supporting mods to remedy it being mediocre with acceleration. Its a Corvette I should beat dam near everything on the road imo.

You have to be a little careful due to the ZO6 higher compression. I had a chance to take it to Mid Ohio race track. I let the instructor drive it with me in passenger seat. We hit 160 MPH on the back stretch after the Key Hole
Your first step to transform a C5 in my opinion is a supercharger. But just like this video it all really comes down to personal preference. I am really itching to buy coil-overs. I'm weeks away from buying an A&A supercharger kit, ECS trans brace, and a HPI trans mount. The brace and mount are to eliminate wheel hop.
@@IndependenceCityMotoring from what I was just reading on the Corvetteforum you are correct. Most drivers are not going to notice the extra 50lbs in the front though. Just thinking about having 200-250 more hp kind of makes me not care about losing the 50/50 weight distribution. But I do wonder if there's a way to have both?
@@Infantryman662 the ECS kits only weigh 65lbs, so assuming A&As is ballpark the same. You do feel a little bit heavier in the nose but frankly the added power of FI makes the C5 exponentially more enjoyable to drive. With the right tune centerfugal superchargers drive like a stock car up to about 3k rpms. So you can keep it subtle and tamed... until you want to get pressed back in the seat like you're riding Kingda Ka at Six Flags.
ARH and factory Ti is fine. The hp you might make from an axle back you'd lose in weight. The only one that's close are the bullets , which I have with ARH LT's and it sounds great 👍. I wouldn't cheap out on coil overs either. Bushings would be better, like Delrin AF, LG G2's, Penskes. Cheap coil overs will make your ride worse! I've had 18 C5's. Seats , you can also save A LOT of weight! But not for 170ea, the Sparco R600 are a good trade keeping the weight even. My first mod was a 21lbs Braille battery 🔋Headers and tune. MGW yes too. The list can get pretty endless, if you have plastic endlinks, def swap those
Factory Ti flow good to 560ish whp before they become a power hindrance. The biggest myth people belive is swapping an axle back for more power. More loud dosent mean more power. And like you said, now you loose the weight saving of the Ti.
maybe its because im a big guy and 6ft but for me the sets are ok. being 6ft the set is all the way back anyway and b/c im a big guy the center console and door keep me from moving around side to side, i do need to replace the bushing tho in the sets to fix the like 1 in travel if i happen to stop to quick.

Great vid. On the short throw shifter , in have same, I hit the ball joint with some white lithium grease and it was night and day easier to shift. Be a good video for ya. As I commented in a thread here. not a big fan of the upgrades you mention here. Mostly, I never had a problem with handling in mine. It stuck to the road like paint. Never had a seat tear or disappoint me in any way. The shifter "upgrades" just put more stress on the transmission linkage. Felt like a waste of time after I did it. So.. power is the answer now. Get a blower, and the car will return to its dominance. Yes, the C5Z is awesome for its day, and I still love the look. But that was 2004. A lot has changed from the competition, and I just think another 150 horses, and in an 'instant on" fashion would fit the bill. I tried to execute on this opinion, but wasted a bunch of money on headers, which did almost nothing. Cough up the $6000, get the Supercharger.
In agreement on the mods listed above. Not where I focused at first either. Some of the things I ended up doing later on in the builds. The headers you feel you wasted money on are a definite benefit and absolutely a must if you go FI. So now just pull the trigger and get the blower. Then you'll feel better about your headers.

I was able to get out of the C5 Z16 for what I paid for it, because it was lightly modded, and low mileage, and a collectors edition. Engine work is the hardest thing to get a straight deal on; I get that's why RUclips is getting flooded with "Click me, so I can get paid my high tech seat swap mod"

Complete removal of the (dare I say it) archaic leaf springs. Total 100 percent independent suspension for all 4 corners. More robust and confidence inspiring driving experience. Ability to really really lower the car (not on bolts that can be dangerous). But the original setup is not bad. I just prefer these. (Marginal weight savings as well)
Thanks. Replacing the leaf springs sounds like a good thing. However, can the magnetic selective ride be maintained with coil-overs. This is to say, can F55 shocks be used with coil springs? There is a GM video showing the selective ride as a really good thing.
@@MrNorbacsamle you can get aftermarket coilovers with active ride, yes. I do not think you can utilize the same wiring and would have rewire everything. But you could probably run the switch the same spot. 🤔. You MAY be able to reuse the F55's. Not 100% on that.
Looks like we have twins! I have a ‘02 MY Z like yours. You’re right about the stock seats. I have Corbeau Evolution X in mine (kinda like your seats) and they feels sooo much better! Great mod IMO. Interested in the coilovers. How difficult were those to install and where did you get yours? May also do the shifter mod too but thinking of using the C6 Z06 shifter instead because I heard it’s also a short throw compared to the one in the C5 Z06.
When I got my 03 c5 in January, I tried to make myself like the seats. They look ok and I love the memory feature. Months later I'm like... yeah these seats suck. The seats in my Turbo SOUL are better lol.
How difficult was the tick master install? Was it easy to adjust for proper clutch engagement/disengagement afterwards? Also, I’d recommend you get a cross weight and corner balance after you get your coil overs setup close to where you want them. Great video!
Installing it was easy. Reaching everything was a complete pain the ass! The angles you have to approach everything makes the job annoying. Not impossible, just annoying. Wasn't too hard to adjust the engagement disengagement plunger to my liking. Start with it slightly low and raise it until you can easily place the car in gear (when on) with no resistance.
I did the MGW shifter and lower box and it’s still tight. The shift socket and arm moved smooth when I assembled the box but side to side shifts are tight. I did one washer w the detent mod but side to side seems to just be tight on this car. Changed trans and rear diff oil also.
I just went through this. I've got a '01 Z06, bought it back in June. It came with undersized mud and snow Uniroyal's that absolutely suck. I looked all over the place for replacements in the OEM sizes and ordered Michelin PS2's with the fronts up a size to 275's instead of 265's and the rears in stock size. The 265/40 17's just are not made anymore as far as I could see. It looks like Michelin stopped making them last year. They had them in Conteniental's (with the bigger fronts) but I get a Michelin friends and family discount so I ordered those. Then I was told the 275/40 17s where back ordered for the foreseeable future I decided to go with a square setup. I looked at getting OEM rear wheels to put on the front but the cost for new 18x10.5 speedlines were $460 so I decided to order all new 18x11 forgestar F14's($400ea) and I'm getting 4 x 295/35 ZR18 Michelin PS2's to go on them. I think the square setup is the way to go. A lot of the track guys do the square setup and it gives you the advantage of being able to do a tire rotation plus adding grip to the front for more balanced handling. If you want to stick with the staggered setup you will have to go up to a 275/40 17 in front or down to a 255 or 245. I just don't see any 265/40 17s anywhere right now.
Just went through this myself. The OEM sizes for the fronts (265/40R17) are just not available anymore. Not sure why. I decided to go with Continental Extreme Sports in 255/40R17 for the fronts and 295/35R18 for the rears (stock size). I’m very happy with those. You can go with a 275/40R17 is the fronts but I personally didn’t like the bigger sidewall it had compared to the rears. Just looked goofy IMO. Or, you could go with a 255/40R17 and 285/35R18 setup which is going down a size frt and rr. Those are available from many manufacturers. Or, you could go to a 18/19 wheels and find lots of 265/295 tires for that setup.

Question on seats, do you sweat alot more on the vinyl than leather? Any fitment issues, c5 is narrow. Did you install seats opposite sides due to incline lever interference with seat belt assembly ?

An inexpensive and effective option is aluminum peel and seal at Lowes. Many car owners use this successfully.

Keep an eye on those lower front bushings on the bc coilovers. They go bad pretty quick.

Try 2 washers, mine is not as tight anymore

If you want to stick with the staggered setup you will have to go up to a 275/40 17 in front or down to a 255 or 245. I just don't see any 265/40 17s anywhere right now.
Just went through this myself. The OEM sizes for the fronts (265/40R17) are just not available anymore. Not sure why. I decided to go with Continental Extreme Sports in 255/40R17 for the fronts and 295/35R18 for the rears (stock size). I’m very happy with those. You can go with a 275/40R17 is the fronts but I personally didn’t like the bigger sidewall it had compared to the rears. Just looked goofy IMO. Or, you could go with a 255/40R17 and 285/35R18 setup which is going down a size frt and rr. Those are available from many manufacturers. Or, you could go to a 18/19 wheels and find lots of 265/295 tires for that setup.

Question on seats, do you sweat alot more on the vinyl than leather? Any fitment issues, c5 is narrow. Did you install seats opposite sides due to incline lever interference with seat belt assembly ?
What antenna is that? opinion?
Stubby Jr I believe. (Bullet shape). Works well. Super easy install (for the non telescoping antenna's)
