Cuenca is a cool, unique city. I lived there for a year and a half. Blackouts are a problem. Water availability also a challenge. It will be back, but right now, might not be the best option.

It’s good to hear about you move to Cuenca! I’m heading back to Ecuador and hope to visit Cuenca soon. Any suggestions on where to stay for 3-5 days? Hopefully I’ll get to meet you both while I’m there. Of course I’m an introvert too so…

We have limited experience with accommodations here in Cuenca, our friend LaRahna may have a vacancy during your trip, or you'd have to go with booking.com or Airbnb, and we may be able to help you choose from there.

Than you for sharing your experience. I am still not sold on Cuenca, even after my discovery trip. I will stay optimistic but I have lived near or in a city of 260k- 4 mil. Literally escaping to higher elevation on weekends to escape 115 degree heat and all the people. Dont get me wrong convivence of stores of great . But I am done with so many people.

We hear you! We lived in a large metro area for a long time, and even here in Cuenca we find ourselves staying away from overcrowded areas unless we have a need to be there. That's why we chose to live in a quiet suburb as opposed to the busy areas near centro.

Try to find the valve where the water comes into your house and turn up the water pressure. They need high water pressure I guess Ours is under the kitchen sink. We also had the landlord replace the water heater. Of yours wont, get a new one yourself. Our water is soooo hot for as long as we want!

Welcome to Cuenca. We actually have not been getting much rain which we really need, glad you brought it with you. I read that we need like 30 plus days of rain to catch up. Cuenca is super walkable but the sun is very strong here like the coast. You might find coca leaves at the market on calle larga, 10 de Augusto.
